No real reason this car can't go that fast on pump gas at that weight. Seems legit to me. A turbo of that size with good intercooling on a fall Pennsylvanian day, sure why not.

Uhh, 133mph in a 3300lb car? Thats 600whp on a 58lb/min turbo. Your making at most 400whp on a 44+lb/min turbo. See the problem? This is a turbo that might make 650whp maxed out on E85 or vp import. The rule of thumb is 9whp per 1lb/min on pump gas and 10whp per 1lb/min on race fuel or E85.

LOL

I am amazed at how crappy this thread got!!

I suppose you should mention we are going back to PRP this weekend if anybody in the area wants to come out and witness?? Smell the fuel, buy the fuel etc ;-) ..

It'd be freaking awesome to see Dave in the 9's and Gabe in the 10's by the end of the day...

The guy mentioning the Quality of airflow is RIGHT on target.. If you have nice cool air, and run the car w/ low coolant temps (like 140-160ish)...it takes ALOT more to get the car to knock... and the air is much denser to boot..so you get more power to boot.....head work goes a LONG way as well.... stock heads flow well...but well ported heads..and a nice valve job makes things even better... I know of several cars that are making over 500 awhp on pump w/ an hx40.. this is the most powerful HX/HY35 on pump I know of... but it obviously is not impossible... its impressive actually

the 9 WHP per lb/min is rule of thumb... I can make that rule go out the window 1000 different ways..

The other thing to consider when BEGGING for airflow #'s is if Airflow is even dialed in accurately... I am not sure how Gabe has his car tuned..but if he is just dialing in AFR's than Airflow doesnt amtter at all and is probably inflated or deflated...There are plenty of ways a person can choose to tune their car...in the end if AFR and timing is where they want it..I call it success ..especially w/ results to back it up !!

Come to think of it..I don't think Gabe even has a MAP in his car...which means his boost gauge could just be a POS and he THINKS hes at 25psi but is at 35psi (NOT saying these are his boost levels, just making a point) ..

None of which matters....

The results are the car trapped faster than I have ...only weighs 200-300 lbs less than mine, and I made 585 AWHP on a MUSTANG dyno... I'm pretty sure his car is right on track for making 600 AWHP ! disgusting really ..

not to mention he drove it the 2.5 hours to the track one way... trapped 133 MPH ... and drove it home...

Anyways congrats again... we NEED to see 10's out of that thing this year... and 9's from Dave...so we'll get it all as right as possible this week and pray for a good weekend ;-)

You guys will have to go to Hagerstown if you want to run 9's in 2010...PRP is closed for the year. :(

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell me your kidding!!!!! NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Not kidding. This coming weekend is looking pretty f*ckin' marvelous weather-wise at this point, too. Quite a bummer.

This just blows!!! Hagerstown wont let me run again, the tech guy said not to come back without a cage, approved seat belts, fire jacket, and a snell helmet! Guess it looks like next year for the 9s pass!!!:sosad:

go to 75&80 in Urbana Md its not too far from hagerstown

No kidding about PRP Thats a huge bummer.!!!

I heard they reopened 75&80... I've never been there though..

Tom Dorris and I have plans to race at Hagerstown on the 27th...so I'd rather not get booted this weekend there and not be able to run on the 27th..

This entire week is looking excellent around here... we will HAVE to do something...maybe we should go terrorize all of the "fast" cars off of the mountain ;-)

OR

Find an AWD Dyno open on Saturday and strap down and get some new #'s! I'd love to see 700 AWHP ;-)

J&S DYNO

Make an appointment- Ricky's, Dave's, and Gabe's cars with the same tune they ran at the track with a few weeks ago! We'll know who's making what for sure!

Congrats to the both of you guys for making redonkulous power and insane track times! Don't even bother replying to most of the MO/IL guys... I was a member of gatewaydsm for awhile and one guy there (Denny) actually had a car worth taking to the track, and he did. But it's not their fault they aren't running 10's, they have crappy track prep at Gateway, and it's humid, and the temp isn't right, the lines are too long, they took the MTBE out and put ethanol in it's place, or the dog ate the logger ... My car ran like crap then (yes, dog-turd bad, I can't tune) and still did until I paid for a decent professional tune, and it wasn't in Missouri. Remember that this is the same club with members that claim Holset's are crap because the local turbo guru thinks you can score/blue a turbo shaft in a couple hundred miles but it wasn't due to oiling issues. That is one thing I will NOT miss about the 'great state of Miseri', all the damn blame-storming/ excuses/sour grapes, that if they didn't do it, it didn't happen and COULDN'T happen. These are also the guys that call this site 'dsmtooners' yet can't stay away from it :banghead:

Be proud of what you did! You know you did it and that you can still squeak some more out of it. THAT is what a car forum should be about, showing your success as well as your failures in order to help someone else (or inspire them) not to make the same mistakes and enrich the DSM community. It's not like it isn't hard enough to keep a stock one running, much less DD an 11 second car knocking on 10's :thumb:

It's possible- I've seen blued shafts from excessive EGT's on turbos that were getting plenty of oil. How do I know they were getting plenty of oil? There was no bearing transfer on the shaft itself. Had the shaft been blue with evidence of bearing transfer, then it's absolutely an oiling issue.

Really? There is something very fishy about this. 133 mph in a 3000lb car is a 600whp car. He claims he's doing this on a 58lb/min turbo with a restrictive exhaust side. On a twin scroll hx35 with E85, this would be an awesome trap speed. He's claiming to do it on 93oct, and won't show his logs. I'm gonna venture to guess this is becuase he was running some sort of race fuel, and he doesn't want to let everyone know it buy the 15*+ degrees of advance hes getting on the top end, or the fairly lean afr's hes afforded to run.

I have plenty of holset experince, and I'm one of the few to break into the 11's on a 8 blade hx35, and my car is HEAVY at 3350lbs. On pump gas it was difficult to make 400whp without being on the edge. I realize he is running a smim with BC288's, which pushes his peak power to 8000Rpm a 28% increase in power, or about 100 whp at my level. Wheres the extra 100whp coming from?

Maybe I'm wrong, and if I am he should be making good money tuning cars.

Water/meth injection makes things appear magical. Has anyone even asked?

I was wondering because I know Dave likes his pumpgas with water/meth injection over trying to hunt down e85 :) .

I live on the eastern Shore, VA. Sonoco 93 is all up and down route 13. I can attest to how much less finicky it is to knock vs. valero, royal farms [crap], citgo, exxon, etc. There ARE better pump gasolines out there. But you have to test several brands in you area to find out whats best for you setup. Not saying you can see no knock at X wild horsepower with Y pumpgas. But I can see a great tuner eaking out very potent numbers with my Sonoco. **I** am no more than a novice tuner.

Well looks like i'm going to the track, this Saturday at Hagerstown, hopefully they let me through to make a pass! I have one shot to get a 9s pass, if I dont feel it is a fast pass, I will let off in the 1/8th! Crossing my fingers, that I get through tech!!!

Hope you crack the 9's. Good luck.:thumb:

Yall let me know what you guys decide to do.I wouldn't mind rolling up again for this.:D i need to play with mine more and stop playing around.

I've got an appointment in Ohio to dyno tune a members car this afternoon...

This evening I'm coming back to help Dave wire in the electronic boost controller and bring his boost levels up over 32 ...he only has a 3.3 bar map..so 38-39 psi will be the most we can measureably run (and considering he's running SD i'd rather not run more than the map can read anyways ;-) .. He dropped his pumps out Tuesday and we modified them to hold more pressure, and I let him borrow a better FPR so I imagine his leaning out in the top of 3rd and 4th will be licked....

Combine that w/ another 7 psi of boost and maybe some cam adjustment...he should make an extra 75 or more WHP ... I think 9's are attainable ..

Honestly they would have been attainable if his car would stay together during a hard launch ... but we figured we'd just be a little more insistent on it making into the 9's ;-)

Dave is definitely going to attmpt to run this Saturday at Mason Dixon Dragway ...I believe we are planning on taking the car apart on Sunday for inspection and prep for Winter upgrades ;-).

ahh, i wanna goooo!!!!!! I cant chance taking the DSM that far tho....Damn PRP for shutting down early!

I'm close enough to get there. Have to cross the Annapolis bridge but the toll is free one way. MAN! I WANT TO SEE THIS. Are you REALLY going? I want to finally meet some of you.
