Dave did some serious work at our local Import Face Off event today. He was the #2 qualifier on the day with a 9.5 @ 152 pass; only car faster was a Supra running consistent 8.8's in the mid 160's who eventually went on to win the event and take home the big money.
It was HOT out...and very humid with zero air moving. Fought overheating issues all day- pretty sure there's a head gasket sealing issue whether it be a major problem or the head just needs to be re-torqued. I pulled the thermostat after the second pass of the day and it stopped pushing coolant, but other problems kept Dave out of the final.
Made it to the quarterfinal round and he broke a left rear axle. Luckily, the Evo he was against lit the red so he got a one-way ticket to the semis. At this point it looked like we were going to get dumped on rain-wise, so we took it easy and waited to see if the event was going to get called before changing the axle. Somehow the storm missed us, so the axle got changed and he was ready to roll.
Started the car to head to the lanes for semi pairing and the f*cker was only running on two cylinders. With not much time to spare Dave pulled fuses, changed the transistor, and checked all the plugs under the hood to no avail. Probably a coil or ECU issue that we didn't have time to diagnose. Missed the semis which would've been a sure-win against a 10-second Evo judging by how Dave's car performed earlier in the day...basically the ignition problem meant he missed out on a guaranteed $400 as that Supra was just on fire all day today.
