TalonDave + BatMoWheel HX40 = 151.11mph

My total investment in the 6-blade that Dave was running prior (not including any rebuild labor) was $435. That included the BEP turbine housing. That turbo went 10.02 and trapped 145.09 with a huge hole in the intercooler. Dave's now borrowing my undersized Buschur street core and seeing intake air temps rise nearly 60* at the end of a run, but at least it's not leaking.

When this car gets all the leftover shitty parts from the previous build upgraded where we never intended to go this fast it will be an absolute terror.

You guys are in for a treat once Dave makes his new post!!!!!!!!

Apparently a 60mm turbo trapping nearly 150mph isn't enough.

Looking forward to the results from today.

WOW!!! I did a double take when I saw TalonDaves sig... All I gotta say is awesome. I wanna jump on here and be one of the first to say GREAT JOB!!!!

Are you going to take that batmowheel off and try the old HX-40 again? How about the HX-35?

NOW WHAT?????

Also is the 6 blade hx40 wheel a billet upgrade? I have heard mixed stories about the 6 blade 60mm as being only offered as an aftermarket wheel.
Honestly John, I have no idea what to tell you on this- his old turbo was running the old cast 6-blade wheel and it was performing great. I don't know anyone running the billet 6-blade wheel who's really pushing it.

From what I've seen the billet factory Holset wheels aren't really any better aerodynamically, but they're stronger and perhaps a little lighter.

There's not really enough people pushing the 7-blade at this time either to know which wheel is better between the 6-blade and 7-blade. The 7-blade is supposedly the newest design, and it's basically a big brother to the 7-blade HX35 wheel...they're visually identical.

NOW WHAT??????????
Go faster....apparently we need to put the 6-blade cast wheel back on the damn car to shut up a few non-believers.

Justin and I were talking, and we REALLY dont want to get ahead of our selfs...but 8s seem to be reachable...With everything, and really everything, is just right. This car is INSAAANNEEEE.

Now, its time for a cage my friend! LOL

Cat's out of the bag- the car went 9.67 @ 150.85 with a shitty 1.8 60ft about three hours ago. If he could get the 60ft back down to the 1.52's he was running a year ago.....well, you do the math.

So many things to fix for next year- he's out of fuel, he's using my undersized intercooler logging nearly 60* increases in intake temps at the end of a run, etc.

Dave will be starting a new thread with videos shortly for easier reference.

Well it ended up being a regular race day, which sucked. Weather was perfect, track was perfect....but he had to dial 11.50 to avoid being teched out of the event altogether due to the lack of roll cage. This will obviously be remedied next year.

First run he let off before the 1000ft in third and threw the car in neutral, coasted to a 10-something because he thought the opponent was going to run under as well. Well the f*ckin' guy ended up running his dial almost perfect.

We bought back in to the round with one goal....9's. Ran a 9.67 on an 11.50 dial- that had to be one of the worst breakouts in track history. ROFL

Congrats on the 9 second pass. Takes alot of work to get there especially on an HX40. Good Job!

Damn! Congrats! Can't wait to see what happens with an intercooler that can keep up and a good sixty foot.

So, any plans to throw a holset housing back on it and see what happens? I'm curious to see if it would pick up any due to lower backpressure in the turbine housing?

it is a holset housing. Only thing "different" is the batmowheel.

Funny that Spark Tech should comment on this thread- Dave was noting on the last pass that the car was starting to break up a good bit....seems the stock igniton with plugs gapped a .018" just aren't cutting it for 650-700whp. Your name came up in a conversation while loading the car on the trailer. ;)

LOL

Could be plugs/wires/ or coil packs going bad. I know Of few cars on stock coils/wires that have ran 9.0s and 9.3s in the 160mph range on stock coils, and hitting it with a 100 shot on top.

F**k what anyone says!!! How many of them are hitting mid 9's? Congrats on the awesome time.

Don't be an asshat. We'll put the 6-blade HX40 back on and go faster if you want us to.

A 68HTA is basically a 20G compressor by spec, not a 16G....the Bullseye HX40 compressor is the identical spec to the factory wheel it replaced. Your argument is invalid- if a previous GT3582 user switches to a GTX3582, is he no longer running a 35R?

Swapping to a compressor wheel of identical spec doesn't mean it's a completely different turbo. The turbo itself is less a Holset because we're using a Bullseye turbine housing than swapping compressor wheels.

Justin, I'm not trying to come off as a d**k because you are obviously a very respected member of this community. All I was saying is that the turbo on Dave's car right now has a non original Holset compressor wheel (and turbine housing also), which defeats the purpose of a calling it a true HX40 turbo. I don't want (at all) to take away from the hard work that's gone into Dave's attempts (nor the labor you've invested into setting up the turbo for him). By your logic though, the GTX35R and 68hta, are NOT there respective original turbochargers. (68hta being called a 16g, and a gtx3582 being a "GT35R"). If this batmowheel has no effect on the turbo's performance, then a stock cast HX40 compressor wheel (swapped in place of the batmowheel) would change nothing.. I don't know how to say this without coming off as prude (I assure you I mean this as a constructive argument, and not trying to be an asshat, but some part of me would like to see see this car with the original HX40 compressor wheel... I guess the bottom line is I'M WRONG on this one. In my defense though, if the GTX35R and GT35R are the same turbo, why did Garrett change the horsepower ratings? I do agree with you that the compressor wheel of the 68hta is differently spec'd then a real 16g compressor wheel (and any variant there of, big, small, or EVO series).

The whole Turbine housing thing is a retarded arguement, considering the car would probably be laying down even more power with the twin scroll t4 housing. This car started on a budget and the cost of the t3 setup is at least half as much as a true t4 twin scroll setup would be. Dont get all worked up, im sure at the beginning of next year the old turbo will be back on to shut up all the haters. But then they will have to find another reason to piss and moan that the car doesnt have the same intercooler or some other reason to try to bi*** that dave's car isnt on a budget

I agree.. (turboboy4), I am still waiting to see the results without the "BatMo40" wheel. Forget about the budget.. This guy has more in his motor and trans combo then most Holset users have into there whole car. Besides, no one is complaining about any of the Holset competitors' budget (Let's face it, we all know well prep'd 6262's, FP HTA35r's etc. cars, have more money into there setups then Dave probably does). I definitely applaud Dave's record. 9.6's with a 1.8 60'.... That's power, doesn't matter if you like Holsets or not!

^^i was thinking of something else when i posted, something else i was thinking of, sry. LOL

no one is hating. Everyone has said great job Dave and its crazy how fast he is going (especially with his 60fts;) LOL) it's just once you start making a lot of power and running fast times there is no such thing as budget cars.

I made a reference in his other thread to the fact that the whole budget thing is an after thought when it comes to these cars running 9's. It takes some heavy duty parts to make these cars reliable at that power level. Its just stupid that people dont think this is a Holset turbo anymore and people are giving him some hell because he put a dog box in the car, so they think its no longer on a budget. If I was breaking transmissions all the time and a killer deal came along on a dog box, I would jump all over it too.

I love his setup, I would love to run those numbers. He runs on his budget and I run on mine. Thats why his runs 9's and I run 11's haha...
