Having broken only two (I think) rear axles at this point, one being the stock one which came on the car with almost 140K on it, I don't believe a solid rear axle is necessary. Finally got the driveshaft issue figured out so t-case breakage was not a problem at all this season....huge step in the right direction there.

Two last year, and one this year! But definitely so glad we got the driveshaft thing worked out.... I broke 4 tcase last year....sucky none this year- awesome!

Congrats again Dave! Didn't see the thread till now- I was limited to facebook stalking.

Serious MPH and crazy ET for the 60'

Great way to end the season and I'm excited to see you you'll do next year!

WHOA! 4k for the solid rear? I didn't think it would be that much unless you went the aluminum rear end. I personally have not compared prices but a junkyard ford explorer 8.8 rear with just a spool or posi unit with the correct gears. Stock axles or upgraded units and the little bit of fab work to still use the dsm rear brakes and rear struts. Extra cost would be in ladder bars and the new ujoint flange for the driveshaft. I'm so worried about snapping a rear axle that now I'm considering this If it can be done simply enough. I have access to welding equipment and endless tools at my shop. Ford explorers are a dime a dozen at the local u pull it yard. I just dont know if I could except the down time of not being able to drive my car.

Thanks man! We have a few plans for next year... One seeing how far we can go with the HX40... Putting on a Hx35, and then I want to try a big 16g out on the car, to see what it does! could be interesting, I dont think anyone has ever ran a 16g turbo with a dogbox trans!

Its not just rear end setup, its the hole cost in doing it, I dont have the knowledge or the equitment to do it. I would have to pay someone to do it for me! Once I start breaking rear diffs, then I may consider the ford 8.8 rear!

Don't get greedy with the records, pal.

;)

:D I just want to do different things with the car, and have fun!

A 1.4-1.5 60ft with a 16G and Dogbox could be epic. :thumb:

I suppose I'll start shopping for a nice Evo III....
It will be a awesome time trying different things, as long as I have you on board, were good!!!

On the whole I honestly believe the HX35 is a MUCH more versatile turbo that the HX40....depending on setup of course. You can go from making 52lb/min and spooling below 4k in a DSM bolt-on housing to running mid-10's and trapping 138mph with the divided twin-scroll housing....and everything in between.

Of course the HX40 is where it's at for mass airflow, but the HX35 and even the HY35 literally blow my mind at the amount of power / airflow generated from such a small rotating assembly while remaining pump gas friendly.

Ha, so you are thinking about the convo we had WAYYY back, about going for EVERY turbo record, from an Hx40 to a 13g?!?! HA, DO ITT!!!!

I just gotta ask.... What do you guys consider a budget? Buying ebay crap?

I may not have the cheapest parts on my car, but damn did I work hard to get them...

I think you maybe are looking at this like everyone talking "budget" is saying you tried to get bunch of cheap stuff and do what you can with bare minimums"

wqhere i think most of us or at least i think of a budget as how you jujst stated.

That's my opinion of a budget build anyway, is knowing you sweat and labored (or at least worked your ass hard) for that money and to choose what you spend on the car and doing something good or making a smart buy is doing things "right on a budget" which is how i've always looked at your trek into the 9's from when you first went to the HX40 from the 35. YOu bought what was effective, didn't waste money on stupid blingy crap that just didn't function, and built a simple effective car with more attention to detail than just throwing big dollar parts on that a shop car "makes 900AWHP with" and expecting to be in the 9's (WOW man congrats by the way)

I hope to get a simple high MPG DD car here in the next 2 years (prefer pickup) and then start gutting my GS-T now that i swapped it to a GSX i'm really stoked to eventually keep it plated, but have it just a stripped down beast that i could launch like you do a drag bike (there's where you look for technique;) ) with a heater, (maybe AC), and some comfy racing seats and a rollbar a mean ass clutch/trans combo coupled to the widest 500 HP powerband i can develope (ala hx35 probably) and a staging brake!. It would be nesseccities mainly, no rear panels/seats etc...) Eventually getting wild with it and boxing in some areas of my unibody with new sheetmetal replacements, and building a 4130 front and rear subframes with all tubular control arms from circle track stuff (don't want to go full body, but plan onmore deloping a driveline and suspension that I could swap into a colt, mirage, or whatever and just go wicked fast and AWD, maybe even eventually some sick kit car to Drive around making exotic car owners feel like they wasted their money LOL!

Sorry ti ramble, your build has inspired a lot of hope for me in not giving up my eclipse being somewhat of a similar build (but i'm not going for records, just personal developement of ideas and custom parts to build a one off car that's stupid fast, wide powerband, unbreakable drivetrain with the simplest suspension to reabuild and or modify geometry of)

I think the budget stuff is getting taken the wrong way. I'm guessing by budget they mean Dave doesn't have a ton of money laying around, got good deals on good parts when he could, and worked a regular job or two. I think some other people are thinking that it's some cheap ass built 9 second car, and are dissapointed when they found out it's not. Obviously no DSM is going to go 9s without quite a bit on money. This car, and that Lucas English car are about as good as it's going to get.

Thats my opinion.

I just took a nitrous jet and turned it to the proper an angle, and turned the an fitting going into the turbo and milled it flat. Drop the nitrous jet into the milled piece and you have a restrictor.

Maybe I missed it but what boost level was this at? Also, if ya don't mind me asking, why did you swap from a QM twin disc to a PTT twin disc? Just wondering, since the QM is what I have myself.

Also, it cracks me up that people complain in other threads that the big guys don't run Holsets because they're sponsered and have every high dollar available to them to use, but then when a guy comes along with a good mod list and bust way into the 9's, people are complaining about it not being a budget build. Ya either want someone to put down good times at the track on these turbos, or ya don't. Which is it? Sigh....some people.

Anyway, congrats on the times....regardless of how much ya spent.

37-38psi, same tune and boost level it's had all year.

Came with the trans- fit the trans.

Thanks. Any difference between putting the restrictor at the turbo or oil filter housing?
Nope. I put them at the turbo because it's easier due to the design of the fitting, and I prefer the line to have full volume / pressure in case there's any reason for a sudden drop in pressure the line won't suddenly empty. This is the way the 14B's are restricted from the factory, yet the T25's are restricted at the filter housing.
