I believe the base idle speed was 850 rpm. Might have a small vacuum leak or it's just not warmed up yet.

Don't fully rotate them. Cylinders 1 & 4 will have piston to valve contact since the engine is at TDC. Just rotate the exhaust cam clockwise and the intake cam counterclockwise until those marks line up at half height. One way you can do it if...

Your timing marks need to be lined up at exactly half height on the cams gears like the line I drew. You have them slightly too low and angled as I illustrated. It was hard to tell from the perspective of your previous image. So you're probably 1...

It's hard to hear much but to me it sounds exactly like the timing is off...I don't doubt you, but if you can post a picture of all the timing marks lining up at once then we can rule that out.

Low battery charge could be the issue. Although it doesn't really take much juice to crank a 420a, it's still wort recharging the battery and trying again. Also check the ground strap that goes from the intake manifold to the firewall. Although...

I can keep an eye out for you. It will probably be hard to find one that isn't either wrecked in the front or already has Ebay junk on the front end. It's definitely worth getting OEM headlights and restoring them though. I never really found a...

If you 4G63n/a swap it, keep the transmission. It's the same between the two engines. But, glad the yard had a good 1.8 head for it. My first DSM ever ever was a 5-speed 4G37 1.8, that had such low compression when I took the oil pan off, you...

I currently live on my property in Jefferson County AL. It's a quiet neighborhood full of old people, I love it. All the pics I've posted are from the local Pull-A-Part. Been years since I was in SC. I put that in my signature because they're my...

Belize Green Metallic. One of my favorite colors for 1Gs(or GVR4's but especially 1G DSMs). My first AWD DSM was originally that color but got come cheap spray paint-job by the guy I got it from. I always wanted to repaint it that original...

It's been a while since I messed with the car but today I got something great from the junkyard. To my surprise there was a 92 Eclipse with a 4g37. So I grabbed the head from it. It looks like it was rebuilt very recently and I don't see any...

Today I found a decent 1G at the yard. 1992 Eclipse, base model. This is my first time seeing a green one.As usual, I couldn't leave the car with good parts on it so I left with the cylinder head and some various hardware I wanted. I also...

I lived near 2 pick and pull yards (1 closed due to environmental issues) and constantly scour for Dsm parts. Around the 2010s there were plenty of 2g cars mostly 420a models very few spyders/turbo models and even less 1g (any) models . Now I can...

Hey man, I just noticed the seal for your intake cam popped out. You need to reinstall it or else it will leak like hell lol

Just wanted to pass along some amazing info/product I have found. I had been searching for a good way to replace the firewall badges on these cars since most are either faded or missing completely after painting etc. So here is a very good option...

Sounds like pretty bad mechanic, takes me outside couple of hours in a first place, but I'm not sure how else we could help you other than get the car back, don't pay much and find a better mechanic, talon and eclipse is the same car just...

You would know if the pistons made contact with the valves. You would hear/feel it. For that to happen timing needs to be at least 2 teeth off, so not sure how you wouldn't notice that while double checking the timing. For right now pull the...

If you can find the necessary parts to do so then I would go with a mechanical tensioner. I had a new hydraulic tensioner fail with 7k miles on it. I just ended up installing a new Aisin tensioner and calling it done because I didn't find a...
