I'm pretty sure that elbow won't clear the front motor mount. You'd need a real tight 90 degree bend.

It works fine on a 2G, thats what I'm using. On a 1G I think you would hit the motor mount.

The outlet is 3" I think. So you need to get a reducer for 2.5" piping, and its not a full 90* bend so need to add a bend to IC piping.

Edit: Pic shows extra bend needed.

Not to get off topic of what you all are talking about but mine deals with the O2 housing as well. I just ordered a BEP bolt-on housing and am going to utilize an external gate off of the O2 housing. I have read that you need to take material out of the current wastegate passage and am looking for pictures to no avail. Any one have any shots to help me out? Can I just remove ALL of the material in that area or only some?

Didn't realize how much weight the HX40 hotside had. PITA to get it off as well; soaked for 2 days in PB Blaster and had to use the double bolt method to pop off the housing.

I would like to know this as well.

I don't know if its been posted up before but I found a site with some good info.
My Holset Turbo dot com, Holset Turbos Model Information.

Good reading

5 years, maybe more.

I wish all turbo manufacturers put this information on their site, as well as oiling specs and such. I can't understand why companies like Garrett want to keep this shit a secret.

So they get more business from people blowing turbos by not using the exact sized restrictor or drain.

Maybe so people will think that they have to buy a new turbo which is just more money to Garrett or other unmentioned manufactures.

Companys are shady like that it seems.

Thought you guys would enjoy reading this.

Holsets are being used on Evo's now, too. A guy on evolutionm named colonelfox put together a HX35 setup on his Evo pretty recently. After getting the bugs worked out, he's seeing 29psi by 3900rpms.

Read more at:
Any Evo Holset setups on here? - evolutionm.net

Oh dang, i talked to him a while back, nice to see his results on here.

Anyone running an hx35 or 40 on a 2.4L with the .55 bep housing? If so, what kind of spool speeds are you getting?

I have an HE351 turbo that was originally internally wastegated, Since I have a external wastegate am I ok to weld the flapper shut and not cause any damage to the turbo in the long run?

HX40/35+E85=ROFLROFL So I got the turbo back from Justin. Thanks man.. Here is a log gm 3 bar doesnt read higher than 30psi the boost gauge is showing 32-33 psi.. The clutch starts to slip any more boost than 35psi plus Im out of injector aswell. Link loging 60lbs not bad for the old diesel turbo.. spining the tires rolling into 2nd and the rear end come out is fun!!!

^Congrats on getting that sorted out.
I am at work so I can't see the logs. I wish you could dyno now that you got it all figured out.

Once i download the link to the log, it says windows can't open it, but i can select a program to open it. Anyone know what program i should use, some options are word, realplayer, quicktime player etc.

Its running very well. I have to fight to keep it straight in 1st 2nd and 3rd. The boost hits hard.. Feels like a 300 shot of NOS in an instant. Crazy!!!! Anyhow the tranny let go on a 3rd gear pull when I was pulling a log trying to richen it up top. The tranny will be getting pulled soon so I can investigate whats going on in there. I will fix it and be back on the road.

^Congrats on getting that sorted out.

CAS was set way off and spark plugs were toast.

Yeeaap 60lb/min at 30 psi with a turbo that sees 20psi by 4300rpm in a 12cm^2 housing in open scroll configuration on a 2.0L. BIG :thumb:
And mind you that's with the hybrid I was srongly advised to get rid of.:hmm: Interesting. ROFL

Yeap I built it. Im going to cryo treat the gears this time around. Just cause its built doesn't make it tough Mitsu never designed the tranny thinking people like us were going to be making 500+ hp. My tranny is a 94 tranny with 96+ double syncro 2nd, 91/92 HD 3rd/4th gear set..

And mind you that's with the hybrid I was srongly advised to get rid of.:hmm: Interesting. ROFL

Why did you listen? I have had red,bws256;bws259,and now the holset. This turbo kicks ass.:hellyeah::hellyeah:

WOW you broke the "NPXV" tranny gears. Were they shimmed tighter than stock? I agree Mitsu never intended more than 350ft-lbs of tourque to be seen by the transmission.

No, I thought you were going to run it in bolton configuration :) . I just don't see the bolton housing being big enough with the hx35 turbine wheel size to merrit the hx40 compressor or even the 60lb/min hx35 7blade compressor. No one's yet seen 60lb/min with the bolton housing with the hx35 turbine wheel.

Yes I broke NPXV. I have been on this tranny for a while now I knew that it was just a question of when. Mitsu spec on the input shaft is 0-0.05 end-play.. I believe I shimmed them .01 with the expansion of the heat from the case that should have gotten it with in the ballpark.
