Not sure what elbow you used, but mine is perfect and has no clearance issues. Refer to the results thread for pictures.

Whatever works for you guys. This setup is in the perfect spot for a SSAC FMIC. Off of that elbow I have a straight piece to the endtank with an elbow welded to it.

Theres no pic in the results thread with a IC pipe on

you can see in this photo i just grounded the lip down to make a smaller lip and my intercooler pipe went right on with a 2.5"-2" coupler.

or can I use one from an HX-35?

As far as I'am aware of no you can not. Thats just from seeing that there is a rebulid kit for a HX35/40 and then another one for the H1's

I finally got Polk Performance to ship back my rebuilt HX40 pro after they noticed it was making a scraping sound when you turn the wheel. The turbo builder (ebay seller Snowprincess67 a.k.a. Randy) had Dave at Polk clock the turbo to the exact position it will be on the car and ship it back. After 4 & 1/2 weeks of shenanigans via Dave taking forever to ship the turbo and USPS taking forever to deliver it, Randy finally got my turbo back and he claims it is fixed. He said the compressor cover was "not on square" and mentioned something about the placement or "position of the snap ring" combined with the housing not being "originally designed for use with the billet wheel". If this is correct then I will be very happy to have an allegedly "rebuilt like new" 7 blade (HTA) Holset for such a good price ($379 shipped :D ) However, another forum member (mike1992) also bought a rebuilt HX40 from the same Ebay seller (Randy) and Mike wound up spending a big chunk of change repairing his turbo after if granaded from a bent shaft after only a few miles of use. So far Randy has been very cooperative, he paid to ship the turbo back and worked on it free of charge. He also shipped it back free of charge and it should arrive at Polk Performance by the end of the week. I asked Randy specifically if the problem with my turbo could be a bent shaft and he infaticly denied it. If it weren't for Mike's experience I would take Randy at his word when he says the shaft is O.K. , but I obviously have a reason to be skeptical. What specifically can I do to verify that the shaft is not bent before I put it on the car?

Have it balanced. I think the rpms used to balance the assembly will be enough to show up a bend in the shaft.

Ali, here's a place that was selling wh1c wheels. Give them a call. As you can see, they even had a h1e/h1c hybrid kit. . . Have your turbo balanced. See above.

Anybody running a tubular?

Or a bolt-down style oil feed line/flange?

Any pics of your setup?

Whered you get it from?

Thanks

I sure hope mine dont look like that:( I just order mine from turbo trader a week ago and hopefully it got shipped out had to wait on a oil drain line. Sure it wont hurt anything but still looks awful:barf:

Have any of you guys ever seen poor casting quality on a Bullseye stainless .55a/r housing like this? I'm wondering if this is pretty typical or if this one was in like a train wreck or something

That is a casting riser spot. It is a spot on the casting that allows the hot metal to flow and get rid of air bubbles. They get ground off which is what you are looking at. Looks like someone got carried away at the foundry.

I wouldnt worry too much.

Rule of thumb for BEP housings: Not pretty, but work and work well.

If that is a riser spot, it looks like the metal didn't rise on that one! I mean it looks like there were voids. That dented in area doesn't look like grinding, it looks like a void area. Man if it was my foundry I would have thrown that one back into the melt.

The Holsets aren't beauties to begin with... They're cheap and they make power.

If you want looks too (you will sacrifice cheap), head on over to Forced Performance.

Brand new Holsets are not cheaper than any other new turbo. Holsets are not cheap.

No, mine costed me 525 plus 250 for the t3 housing. But, if it weren't for closeouts, i wouldn't have. You buy them new from Holset, you are talking well over a thousand. And from dodge, good luck. Remember, these turbos are not "new". They may never have been used, but not new. At least ones that most people use here.

James :laser::talon:

Brand new. Oops, the price is up $50 from when I last looked.

The real benefit is that you can't get a gt35r from a tractor partout, or transit bus part out, or boat partout, or rollback, or the hundreds of other diesel models the hx40 is found on. A used unit and a rebuild kit put's you with a fresh turbo and the same horsepower potential and spool speed.

Nothing against the gt35r at all. Except how easy it is to get an hx40 core and a rebuild with a wheel upgrade. Or you can get one from the "close outs".
