Its been tough deciding which housing to get, but like I mentioned above I bit the bullit and I hope to get what I've been expecting from the hx40. The reason I didn't get the .70 is because of shipping time. Like I metioned above I got a killer deal on a t3 manifold and my old bullseye housing has several cracks in the turbine area and around the wastegate. The only reason I noticed this was because I was swapping my cracked 1g mani with another one the other day and snapped two bolts. I removed the turbine housing and to my surprise it has cracked all over.

Dsm-onster your right the housings are cheap the guy I know can get a brand new .82 housing for around 180 plus shipping. The garrett t3 housing was used for two weeks and ran me 150 and machining was 50, so 200 for a new housing with more potential really caugth my attention. The 02 housing fab job will run me between 100-150 and thats it. The oil lines, intake and intercooler pipes might need some cutting but thats no biggy. I could have gone with the .70 housing but the guy at the shop suggested the .82 for this size turbo. If spool up is horrible I can always change over to a smaller one, he had a .63 one around and was willing to let it go for 100.

Also forgot to mention that I compared the hx40 with my h1e and yes as Tim Grech mentioned, I think, the turbine wheel on the H1e is 2.3mm shorter than the Hx40 turbine wheel.
Hmmm nice options..:thumb:

Makes me wonder if I should use my divided T4 .70AR Garrett housing or my divided T3 .84 Garrett housing.

From left to right:

T4 Garrett .70AR , T3 Garrett .84AR, T3 18.5cm Holset, T3 16cm Holset, T3 14cm Holset

Forgot to mention that the old housing that came off the hx40 is somewhere around 1.2a/r OMGaccording to my turbo rebuilder. I can't find the number on the housng but most people said it was either 16cm or 18cm.

Yes, its an 8 blade I got off ebay.

hey guys I have a question. I have a holset H1E with the 16cm housing and for some reason when I go to mount it on my manifold the housing hits the block. It's hitting the block on the front where the balance shaft is. The manifold is an old cast T3 manifold. Not turbonetics. has anyone else had this problem? If so how did you fix it? Did you have to get a new manifold? Thanks for any help.

Just about everyone has this problem. I bought longer exhaust manifold studs and a 1/2 exhaust manifold flange. This provided me just enough clearance from the block and I didnt have to dent the water pipe.

Here are some of the possibilities ERL cast manifold gives you:

Plus you don't just clock the turbo to fit. Basically you clock it so the oil return line faces down vertical, 90* is perfect, not pointing the radiator or block.

I just checked on the car and I have 1" and more clearance between turbine housing and block. That means with this mani-ERL, you can put almost any housing, both turbine and compressor. Look at the clearance that I have to the water pipe.

Which turbine housing is that you are using there, a 14cm or a 16cm housing?

1.2A/R would perhaps be the 22cm housing. Not the 16 or 18cm housing. I think dsm_monster had that housing on his H1C. Can you post a pic of the old housing?

Thanks Andy4G63 that's a pretty sweet manifold. I think I got it figured out. I added an extra T3 flange between the turbo and manifold and it gave me the clearance I needed. It's still a tight fit though. There's only a couple MM between the turbo and the block. Don't know if I like that. Now if one wished to purchase such an ERL manifold where would you look? Oh and can we get some more pics of that sexy engine bay andy?

Yes. All h1e/hx40 turbos come with t4 inlets from what I've seen.
Really!!! Interesting. Mmmm!

I have a divided T4 70 A/R Garrett housing here and my debate right now is whether to go with it or with my T3 18.5cm holset housing. I'm kinda thinking that this T4 might flow as good if not better than the T3 18.5 cm.

Is'nt that T4 19cm housing too big? That thing has to have an A/R of about 1.0 to 1.1+.

You could look directly@: Erl Performance - HOME - Sport Compact

Or Team XXX Racing - Home

For more pictures you could look on page 20, post#589.

Ceedawg, I run BEP 0.70 AR turbine.

Andy have you got that thing on the Dyno yet??

Not yet Nick. By the end of this month I am going vacation for a month and after that I will hit the dyno. It is already been scheduled, plus $250 for tuning the car on AWD dyno seems like sweet deal to me/ regardless of how many passes and that will include the tuning too/.

Finally found a place that sells Compressor Outlet Flanges.

Twin Turbo Parts from MAD Machining

Little pricey, but thought I'd share.
Anyone know if the S300 compressor outlets are the same as the HX35/40?

Nice to see the vband exhaust outlet flange for the hx35 and hx40. I don't think I've ever seen those for sale either... I can't remember if the h1c/h1e outlets are the same diameter as the hx35/hx40 outlets.
