Ive been trying to follow these holset threads, but it takes some time to get through these 30 pagers! Deffinately seems like the holset scene is growing quite a bit from that first thread though. How's come you guys have chosen the holset platform vs. the Borg warner?

Don't listen to them:nono: Its because dsm-onster made a magic potion and spread it around to us and has us all under his controlOMG:thumb:ROFL

LOL NEVER! Chuck Norris only races turbos he's been given in a sponsorship agreement. The rest of us jerkoffs have to go out and make our own results. So they did . . .But, it's not about the results. It's a religion

I just got back my second eprom ecu socketed by ecmtuning. And I'm cutting holes in my auto AWD firewall for the 5speed now OMG . No more FWD with a bolton hx35 turbo!

Chuck Norris's turbo hits full boost before you even hit the pedal, and hits harder than anything in the universe.......that is other than a round house kick to the face by Chuck Norris

LOL............ Full of WIN here................. Not only can you learn about the ever growing in popularity Holset craze, But you can get schooled on your Chuck Norris facts. LOL LOL LOL

Haha you guys are ridiculous..

More on topic though, what size bolts does the BEP housing use on the o2 housing side? I tried 8mm, 10mm, 3/8", 5/16", none work. Do I have to get the $6 oem bolt?

Use your stock bolts?

And they are cheaper then $6 from JNZ. I just bought a few.

Looking for some feed back to the brief post summary in the first post of this thread. Useful? Useless? I did the first page. The intent is to make it brief but highlight the important stuff.

It's time consuming, but if I can keep up with it, it's not too bad. I might try linking to each post and possibly the poster.

Also, can anyone explain how to post a link, but you name it something else. Example, if you visited the first post, the post summary, post 2 is linked, but how to I make it say "post 2" but it is the link listed?

When you click the link to insert a URL, paste the URL, then hit ok. Then the link you posted should be highlighted. Just type "post 2" or whatever over that.

ill be doing the swap soon, did you cut for the master/cables from inside the car or under the hood?

Hey guys, I got the car up and running tonight. It feels good for being 15psi at the moment but I need to check for some boost leaks.

Yes I am using the PR O2 housing. I like it a lot but we did have to port match it and take of a good amount of material.

I did have to dent the water pipe.

Hopefully after this tank of gas ill have E85 and somewhere around 30psi:thumb:.

Ill have some engine bay pics up soon. My arms were too tired to hold the camera steady.

You need to cut on the inside of the car. See my progress up to just before cutting.

Morphius, are you going to actually do the minutes for these threads!!! That would be a huge undertaking! It would be awesome to get a table of contents. Something like an outline. It would modifiable too. Just add or change headings and subheadings; and add or change posts relating to the headings and subheadings. This would be good to do with the other threads. I remember stuff back to the beginning, but finding it for a reference is OMG!!!

Jeeze, I post yesterday and there is already 20+ posts since! Its like you guys have a cult of holset gurus . Reading of some awsome setups Blksheep86, Maglin, 1fast2g, and its looking like these are gonna be posting some fast times to the list this year!

The more I read the more I wanna make the switch from my 3076 to an hx. Im looking for a setup with the fastest spool possible utilizing the t3 platform of my shearer mani. I like the spool characteristics of the 30r but after reading, close to the same spool can be had along with a load of more topend from these turbos. Just looking for some suggestions.

Well.

If your topmount manifold is an open header design:

1. The t3 .70 a/r bep turbine housing with the hx40 will spool to 20ish psi by about 4400rpms.
2. Get a t3 to mhi adapter flange, a bolton .55 a/r bep housing and run the hx40 that way.
3. 7blade hx35 or hybrid hx35/40 with the stock 12cm^2 hx35 turbine housing. The 7blade hx35 compressor map is 6lb/min more to the right than the gt30r. Radius the divider. 20ish psi by 4000rpms.
4. 7blade hx35 or hybrid hx35/40 with the .70 a/r bep turbine housing. 20ish psi by 4000rpms.

Best option here is number 2 in my opinion for the best balance of spool and flow. Id swing to number 1 if you're willing to give up a little spool for all the topend you would ever need. Because 20psi at 4400rpms in 3rd gear and more than 650whp potential is incredible in my book. This is at least 100whp more potential than your current setup. Not a bad sacrefice.

If you're top mount is a divided runner type:

1. I recommend a 16cm^2 hx40. This is a t3 bolt pattern hx40. The 16cm^2 housing with a true divided runner manifold will be faster. You can't get the hx40 with the common 19cm^2 divided housing but that is a t4 flange.
2. You can get a 7blade hx35 and use an 18.5cm^2 turbine housing from an h1c. This will be t3 flanged and should flow enough to get the most from the 7blade 58lb/min hx35 compressor.
3. Another option is to take a h1c 18.5cm^2 ahdn ahve it machined for the hx40 turbine wheel. It will be slightly laggier than number 1 but will flow more up top, still be t3 flanged and those parts will be more common to find if you having a hard time tracking down a 16cm^2 t3 hx40.
4. Yout can buy a t3 16cm^2 turbine housing from htturbo or city diesel or other diesel turbo supplier.

Best option here is number 1 in my opinion for the best balance in spool and flow. I'd lean toward number 3 if you want to sacrefice a little spool for all topend you would ever need.

My hx-52 build is just getting underway. I ordered my rotating assembly last week from magnus motorsports. I got their 2.4l long rod billet kit. It will use their custom 9:1 pistons, aluminum rods, and crankshaft. Hopefully the added displacement and the better rod ratio will allow me to spool this monster faster and rev higher to give me a nice powerband.

The next item I plan on purchasing is a manifold, but I am not sure what would work best. I am thinking about the shearer top mount, but I am worried about fit and clearance with my 2g. Do any of you hx52 guys have any info on that?

Thanks,
Justin

You too!! I order the same except i went with 9:5:1. Going to send the pistons out for some coating.

I want to see some pump gas numbers on these HX40 setups. Especially with SMIM's and cams. ( JMF DRAG SMIM Anyone ;) )

Also and perhaps someone with some pics of how much they ported on their PR o2 housings?

Also does any of you Holset guys run a CAI? That could also help make that spool faster, it did for me on a e316g, along with doubling up springs in my external gate for as much spring pressure as possible. ( Minimum boost became 20psi though.)

Hey dsm-monster Is there a possibility that the hx40 pro wheel can be put into the H1E turbo housing?

Also if there is any one out there that has a 18mm housing around for a hx40 please PM me im looking for one desperately.

I don't know for sure. See here. If you can swap to a 60mm compressor with the h1c/wh1c, then it's likely you can do the same with the h1e. The saft diameter of my h1c and wh1e are the same.

Who has a 50trim size turbo and doesn't have a cold air intake;)?

I did a direct swap from my small 16g to my bolton h1c (hx35 turbine wheel, 2mm smaller compressor inducer, same diameter exducer) in the holset results thread. Same spool speed, but logging 2lb/min more flow at 2psi lower peak boost and about 15* warmer intake temps. Same stretch of road. Same gear. Same cold air intake. Only difference was a 3" to 4" adapter instead of a 3" to 2 1/4" adapter.

My external gate spring is weaker than the stock 16g actuator. 5psi running off wastegate vs. 10psi with the small 16g. I didn't change the spring. I just used a boost controller. With the MBC turned *all the way* in, it would hold about 20psi. So no stronger spring trick to get faster spool.

so if your wanting to use the holset Hx35's 12^cm housing, is that a T3?
