So after much deliberation I decided to veer into the race car mode with the build and break down all the harnesses and loom to eliminate plugs and un-needed stuff like abs. Started small with the rear routed harness and pulled the washer stuff...

Made more progress with the nice weather.. pulled all the remaining wire harnesses and the hatch off the rear. Also finally got around to pulling the drip rails so I can have the inner race zinc plated. Have 9/10 replacement outer rails too...

@1990TSIAWDTALON The title says he's 3D scanning parts, not 3D printing them. But I suggest scanning the drip rails, or anything no longer made.

I would just test it out somewhere on somewhere inconspicuous first, before I went all in

I used some Dupli-Color perfect match paint. I didn't use any clear afterwards, although I should have. I've had good luck with the Spray Max 2k clear, and it does work with the Dupli-Color perfect match stuff. The only thing I didn't like was...

Probably. That's essentially what I did. Cleaned off the top painted part of the seam sealer, and painted over it with new paint. I would just make sure the seam sealer is dry before re-attempting to paint over it again.

Why don't you just buy some square cut rubber cord, and cut it to length?
    • 1999RSfwd
I had this happen on one of my 2g's. I added new seam sealer in an area. When I went to paint over the new seam sealer, the seam sealer got all tacky and the paint over it never dried. I think this is because I used an enamel based paint. After...

It must be. The tensioner plunger looks too inboard on the tensioner arm

It could just be the angle of the photo, but do you have the correct timing belt tensioner arm installed in the long block assembly pics?

At my last job we made literal aviation/MIL-spec harnesses and cabling with those D38999 connectors and you %100 do this. The allowed bend radius on the 18-22 AWG (We used M22759/11) wire used in these is that small. It's still like 5x the...

I appreciate your experience and input. I just got a raychem shrink tube assortment. Just trying to learn as much as I can. Then when I have a little more budget, I can use this one as a template to do a full on motorsport style harness with...

Not going for a mil or aviation style harness. Just something that will fit my needs on the track in the capacity that I race. Mostly just wanted to clean up the engine bay since I just wanted to. As for moisture protection, the bulkhead will...

It’s mostly for ease of installation of engine at the race track. My personal take was just to make the engine bay cleaner and lose some weight in the front of the car. You should check out @racespec on IG. And HP Academy has some really good...

Hey I'll look into this. I actually did make them at a time. Still have the designs (prototype stage) but wasn't clear on the demand.

Interesting, yeah I looked up a few more auto motorsports harnesses and did see they do something similar as well... I have absolutely no idea why they do this and could not find anything supporting it on any websites either other than its...
