Holset Small H1C:

Came on - Cummins 3.9L 4BT engines

T3 Exhaust Flange

Exhaust Oultet Diameter - 3"
Exhaust Housing - 10cm^2
Turbine Wheel Diamter - 2.3" (60mm)

Compressor Intake Diameter - 2.9"
Compressor Wheel Diameter - 1.7" (45.16mm)
Compressor Outlet Diameter - 2"

Yep, that's the "baby" h1c (coined by the diesel crowd). The "small" h1c has a 50-52mm inducer and no MWE webbing. The "big" h1c has a 54mm inducer with the MWE webbing but no actual porting through to the blades. The wh1c has a 56mm inducer and for all practical purposes is an 8blade hx35 (56mm inducer). It has MWE webbign and actual porting through to the blades.

I am currently putting together a twin scroll t4 6 blade HX40 build. I am trying to figure out what to do with the exhaust... After much searching of this forum and many others, including turbo diesel forums I am no closer to an answer. I need to know if the 4" v-band off the stock Holset housing is a normal v-band flange that standard clamps and flanges will work with or if it is a special one. I have found people saying both.

Ive seen a few different outlet flanges for the hx40s. The one im going to be using has a 22* taper instead of the flat surface like the ones that Dsm-onster posted and i will be using a formed flange instead of a machined one to mate up to it. I found a company that makes semi exhaust for this flange and v-band clamp.

This is what the 22* outlet im talking about looks like. Ill get some pics this weekend of the flange and clamp on the 17cm T4 housing ill be using this weekend.

Has anyone used a Revhard manifold with a Holset 12cm housing? Their cast mani looks like it will give a good amount of block clearance and it's well within my price range.

I have a 9cm2 housing with my he351cw and it fits great. clears the block easily. And the manifold is only $220

Just like to show my HX40 w/ bep .55, slightly polished compressor housing with a fresh ceramic coating from Bonehead performance. Just hope my internal WG will hold <25psi. Just to add I noticed that the bearing has a slight blue color to it, is it possibe that this may be lack of oil? The turbo spins freely but no where near as free as my evo3. I know it wont spin like a smaller turbo but it will only spin for less than a second when I spin it with my finger.

Put motor oil int he brearign section and then spin the shaft. It should move much more freely then.

Off the top of your head does anyone know the bolt size for the oil return line on a Hx40?

So how is the quality of all these BEP housings DSM flanged? There was a post a couple pages back where a guy had a very poorly crafted item..

Is everyoe getting poor quality like this?

They're good quality but the bolton housing is really too small for a HX40 and the thinned out walls are what causing the "defects"

I'm thinking maybe it was just the latest run of castings they did. I've seen one of my buddie's BEP housings that he was going to put on his Evo. It was used when he got it a year ago, and it looked very high quality. None of the type of stuff pictured a while back.

I have a latest casting direct from Bullseye and it's 1000x better then my old housing

I was told by Bullseye that all housings go through quality control.. so if you guys have any problems I'd try going through Bullseye directly

Ok I need some help identifying this holset. Here are the numbers that I was able to find. I think its an HY35 but can't confirm. The chra to turbine housing is a band clamp. And the turbine housing is the holset 5 bolt pattern.
Compressor wheel is 7 blade.

Compressor housing:3593085 (BK2900)

Center section:3592342-06 (23KO)

Turbine housing:3592470 (OK13)

Assuming I had an HX35 and running external gate this is the item I will need..

Is there a way to clock the turbine housing? I noticed on my HY35 if i were to mount it to a mani the way it is, the oil feed and drain would be almost at a 45 degree angle instead of straight up and down.

I plan on keeping the holset turbine housing, for obvious reasons (they dont make a bolt on ), so im trying to figure out how to make it work.

I tried The Turbo Trader... almost 3 months ago. They called at the beginning of May and said they were back in stock and mine would be shipped out that week. Here we are halfway through June, and they won't answer my email, return my messages or calls so I have no idea what's going on over there. If you want a housing anytime soon though, I'd probably try another vendor.

Yep eas for an hy35. And if you have any other holset or garrett, then you can just loosen the turbine housing bolts at the chra, and clock it.

I am curious, has any one tried using one of the super 20g series exhaust housings with the hx40? the oil seal went out on my super 20, I have a hx40 laying here and am curious if I could get it to fit.

You'll have a hard time getting the vband clamp from the 20g CHRA to the "super" turbine housing to work with an hx40 CHRA, which uses bolts. . . Where would the machining begin

Besides MHI turbine housings are terrible. The volute isn't even on center at the outlet to the turbine blades. Like a PTE bolton turbine housing.

. . . I don't want to deter you from trying this. But you could probably score a 12cm^2 hx35 tubine housing and have that machined out to fit the hx40 turbine wheel for cheaper. It would bolton as well, and flow as much as a .70 a/r BEP housing. . . After radiusing the entry. And sourcing a proper oddball clamp setup for the outlet. . . Seriously, if you're after a nice flowing t3 housing that's not too laggy like what's found stock on the hx40, a BEP .70 a/r t3 turbine housing is worth the price and spool speed. . . Let's not reinvent the wheel
