Got this turbo in a trade and for the life of me can't figure out what it is since the owner didn't know either. Hopefully someone here can help me

T04B Garrett of some type- they made these with compressor inducers down as small as 44mm with a 70mm exducer; most were mated to a 74/64.5mm turbine which is roughly the size of a HX40. So figure an 8-blade compressor that's smaller than a 16G which hates high boost mated to a turbo wheel the size of a HX40 is a terrible equation for making power.

hey gang. My galant vr4 came with this turbo. Supposedly is a the new old school fp red with the 35r compressor and wheel . Any input plz. Top one is mine bottom one is 35r red

+1
You can see his initials on the turbine blades, so it is a good unit and appears to be just what you thought it was, an old but fresh FP Red. About the same as Holset flow wise.
When Justin gets back on, he will chime in for the low down.

Is this a 16g ? If so what kind ?

Thanks.

Ebay special. If your turbo says turbocharger on it, it's probably a fake.

It could last 5k miles or blow up your first start. At least ull have an allright turbine housing when it does go boom.

I recently picked up a TD05 20G turbo, just wondering if anyone might know where it's from based on the only stamping on it outside of the normal mits casting numbers, (TR.JG 20G).
It also seems to be clipped on the turbine, any guess on the degree of clip from the pictures.
It has a new Mits 7cm turbine housing & the compressor cover looks new, actually the whole thing looks new but no history about where it came from.

Hey guys picked this turbo up the other day, and I'm just curious if you can identify it. Who ever powder coated it coated over the part number. All I really have to go off of is that Mitsubishi is stamped I to the housing , and it has a turbonetics elbow welded on it. It also came with a old school turbonetics external wastegate so I was thinking maybe it's some kind of hybrid turbo they did back in the day maybe? The turbo is much larger then the t25 on the car currently.

Sure looks like a 20g to me that has been played with. The compressor is quite chewed up as well.

See 20g or t28 was my first thought but then I started reading that turbonetics did a few bolt on turbos for dsms back in the day but I can't find any pictures of them . And I can't seem to find any compressor cover that looks like this on a 20g or any mitsu turbo for that matter.

It's a stock td06 17C compressor cover from a typhoon or syclone. The 17C has a 48.3mm inducer, it's cover is easily bored out to fit the 20G wheel.

Here's a 17C:

Damn I completely forgot about this and you hit the nail on the head that's the exact housing with a elbow welded onto it. Thanks a lot man! Now I just need to clean it up and figure out what exhaust housing is on it

Originally built by Texas Rebuild, JG are the initials of the technician- I think it's just a clipped 05H wheel but that's a real oddball looking clip to me....like the whole face of the blade is trimmed and not on an angle. Definitely not how I do it, anyway. Pretty nice score though, it's a brand new MHI turbo through and through.

Frank L1 or L2 20G depending what size the turbine is. Garrett T04E46 compressor (50.8/76mm).

The reason the 17C cover is used is because it's a common downfiring cover that allows wheels with an inducer smaller than that of a 20G at 52.5mm to be utilized.
