That’s what I was afraid of. Is it a pos $200 turbo or $600 turboThat’s a chinabay turbo man.
. Should I scrap it and put a evo 16g in it? I’m new to the dsm world and want to keep the car 90% stockDefinitely the former. We'd need to know your plans for the car and the 10% that isn't stock currently to make a suggestion, but I would plan on doing a turbo swap soonish. Like others have stated depends just how stock you’re trying to keep it.
You need to put stock 450s in it until you have the means to tune it. You can’t simply toss bigger injectors in with no way to compensate. If it seems like it’s running correctly like that, it’s not. Unless you already have something and a bass tune for the 550s it’s running too rich.Apparently the turbo was put on then the vehicle had a misfire after then sat for 4 years. Ive had the car for 3 months and I am waiting on 1 more part to make it run perfect. pretty much the car is all stock except that turbo and the injectors were bad so i put in 550cc fic injectors. My plans are to just to a tune, exhaust, coilovers and make the car mint and stock looking as much as possible.
Oh for sure. The car had a ton of issues and sat for a long time. So I figured injectors were probably garbage so I didn’t want to waste the money on oem ones so I got the 550s for a good price. No I didn’t fix the issue anyways but plan to put stocks back in untill I have a different turbo and tuneYou need to put stock 450s in it until you have the means to tune it. Some Genuine MHI turbos actually do, like this 18KX3.Like I always say, the best turbos say "TURBOCHARGER" right on them. Would you by a brake rotor that didn't say "BRAKE ROTOR" on it? Or a power steering pump that didn't say "POWER STEERING PUMP"? Didn't think so...
Yeah I knew when I was drinking taking this apart I forgot to do something. How much does that usually run getting it balanced. If it’s over $100 I might just go find a bigger setup.Garrett TB2566. If you want any chance of it actually staying together, plan on getting the rotor group rebalanced.
What I was thinking too. Appreciate it. Off topic but I was rebuilding due to oil burning issue. I was going to get it compression tested to check if rings are bad. I have replaced valve seals just a little over two years ago. It only smokes letting off throttle after spooling up and hard decel. I know at least some of the oil burning is due to the turbo cuz it has quite a bit of play. Just didn’t know how piston rings and when they burn the oil.Its been a bit since I've seen one but that definitely looks just like the t-25 factory turbo.
No problem ya that definitely would be a good idea to have it compression tested and see where everything is at. Thats good and ya that definitely sounds like the turbo needs a rebuild and maybe some new pistons/rings depending on compression. When I had previous smoking issues from leaks it would get alot worse when warmed up. Good thing is sales are coming up to take advantage of some savings like I plan to do!What I was thinking too. Question for you. Do you think if it is rings as well. Should I just replace rings and enjoy it for a little or just build it. My plans are full internals, FP green with archers fab manifold and etc bolt ons. Problem I’m having on deciding is is there much I can do to get more power like say 100to the wheels without too much money? If so I might do that to enjoy it or just tear it apart and build the motor and get the goodies. I’ve heard these cars for a lot of HP gains you’ll need to do some internals and bigger turbo. I’m wanting ideally 400-450 to the wheels. I didn’t know if I could get away with that on stock internals reliably or not. If not I’m just going to rebuild and sell the t25 and get to work. Thanks again man!No problem ya that definitely would be a good idea to have it compression tested and see where everything is at. Depends whether the rotor parts are clean or not, and whether the customer wants me to assemble the turbo afterward or they want to do it themselves.Yeah I knew when I was drinking taking this apart I forgot to do something. . You'll definitely need more snail then that for your power goals. My last turbo (71hta fully rebuilt with new wheels by Robert that I sold for like 850) would be a great size to go with if you dont want more then you said above.
