I've read a good majority of the posts comparing these turbos and spool times. I'm aware spool is greatly dependent on the rest of the setup. Most say if they have old school Green or Green xl otherwise its just FP Green. I'm assuming most others are talking about the FP Green 73HTA 54lb per minute, but how does the 73HTA compare to the current version of the Green the 73HTZ rated at 57lbs?

Obviously the 7HTZ is good in theory for 30hp but are the spool times between the two the same one quicker then the other? FP website says its the 73HTZ wheel in one area the then 73HTA. But I'm guessing there's a difference to gain the 3lbs per minute and they haven't adjusted website yet.

Also the newly listed HTA68 v3 on holiday sale, hows spool compare to v2? Might be the same turbo just MHI 8cm turbine housing vs v2 with FP 8cm turbine housing? My thoughts are my ideal turbo is FP HTA68v1 but since it no longer made I was looking into v2 but the general consensus is it spools much slower than v1. The v2 spool similar to a Green a little faster but the Green is good for a lot more power so I'm getting convinced to go Green. Also know the HX35 is very popular but I do not want to run a HX35 for multiple reasons.

Mainly looking for spool times or technical data between the HTA68 v2 vs v3 and the green 73HTA vs 73HTZ. Thanks

Figured I'd add my FP Green spool up times to this thread since it got bumped up. Setup is in my build thread, but basically, stock motor, BC cams/BC springs/AEM cam gears(installed straight up), 1G IM, 2G EM/o2 housing.

In 3rd gear:

1PSI/Positive pressure: 2200RPM
Startings really ramping up spooling fast @2800RPM
5lbs @ 3000RPM
10lbs @3500RPM(which is wastegate pressure basically)


It'll creep up past like 15lbs in the upper RPM band(usually like 12/13lbs by 4000's, and 15/18+ past 5500RPMs) but overall, I'm extremely happy with the spool. This is in third gear, with 7.8:1 compression, and some giant BC cams that have a major lope at idle. I suspect these BC cams are the 276 or 280 variants, but just for arguments sake we'll say they're 272s.

It makes amazing turbo noises too.

Hoping to get my build done this year, I'll be using a 68htaV3 with FP2 cams.

I think it's safe to say that my days of 0-20psi in under 1 second are gone now, though.
Granted this makes more power overall but it was still a fun stat to have
 
So I've been toying around with the 68HTAv3 (6851S) and I can report (8.5:1 w/ 0.020, stock cams, 10.4:1 AFR, 93oct)

in 3rd gear:

21psi by 3800rpm
40lb/min before 5k rpm at which point i'll be at 10 degrees timing
0-27psi in 0.9sec (started at 0psi at ~4200rpm and hit 27psi by 4700rpm), CXracing intercooler w/ long route piping

So it is noticeably laggier than a B16G in second gear, even with 8.5:1. However, once you pass 23psi or so, it really begins to get into its stride. The lag is probably better for my transmission overall

I doubt I'll go much past 27-28psi because I am on a composite gasket. My peak timing at 4500 is 8-9 degrees and climbs to 12 by 6500 which is my self imposed rev limit.
