New DSM FP Green turbo?

I just noticed today that FP has new pics for the DSM Green turbo.
The words on their web page are still the old words, so mostly wrong info there I think.

So, does anybody have the info on this turbo?

What turbine wheel I wonder? The old evo green had a td06sL2 basically. The new evo green uses a wheel like the one in the Red but 2mm smaller. The old DSM green used a td06H.

The compressor housing: The new one is an FP housing. Not the td06 20g housing like on the old green.

The compressor wheel: In the pic it looks like a 7 blade HTA wheel. I think. Hard to tell from the camera angle and lighting.
I wonder if this is the same wheel as the 73 HTA Green in the current evo green turbo. Except for rotation direction. That wheel is "rated" at 54 lbs per minute. That could be pretty interesting.

Looks like it comes with an internal wastegate. If this actually works pretty well, this could be an easy and relatively low cost way to get into this size range for a lot of people.

Hmm, wonder about the thrust bearing. Would it be the steel on steel bearing like in the evo Red and Black? Or a normal and proper dissimilar materials bearing.

Yeah, looks like nobody knew what was in them in that thread either.

That was way back in July. Here it is October and FP still hasn't fixed the words to match the pics. LOL Guess they aren't in a big hurry to sell any!

Anyway, I think it could be a real nice performing turbo. The fail rate might be a question though. Unfortunately the Red and Black turbos for the evo appear to have a thrust bearing boo boo, which I hope does not carry over to any of the other ones. I think this turbo is small enough that it would have the older more normal style thrust bearing.
If anybody finds out any of the stuff I asked about in post 1, post it up!
 
Interested in finding out myself. I am contemplating either going with a evo3 16g but wondering if it's worth to get it then go to a 50 trim turbo or just go straight to a 50 trim.

If this turbo uses the 73 HTA compressor, then it's probably got a little more punch than a 50 trim. That's the compressor all by itself. Then it would be up to the turbine housing, turbine wheel, wastegate setup, as to what would be better.
Really I can only think of 2 reasons to go 50 trim instead of this. If you want to go T3, and if you want to go ball bearing. And if you want to do those 2 things there's probably better turbos now than the 50 trim.
I think ball bearings are going to be used more and more in turbos, as people get tired of thrust bearing failure in these hot-rodded turbos. Borg Warner might be going to ball bearings in their new EFR turbos - I guess we don't know yet for sure.
Anyway, if you want to stick with the stock type exhaust configuration, I sure think it would be worth finding out what is actually inside the new Green.
 
I got a fp green back in august. I also noticed the older fp green's dont require coolant lines. I currently have coolant lines hooked up to my fp green.

Well if it was me and if I hadn't already spent a bunch of money on a nice tubular T3 manifold, I would call FP, get Robert on the phone, and ask him my questions about this turbo. (Don't talk to Aniel about anything technical, you'd be wasting your time and possibly getting wrong info). If this turbo is what I'm guessing, or something just as good, I would get it instead of the 16g. And a FP race manifold to go with it.

In addition to the questions I put in the first post, I would ask Robert what his motor oil recommendation is for this turbo. Be sure he knows you have a car that was a 10w-40 car when new. There is a problem with the FP Evo Red and Evo Black turbos that caused Robert to write up a recommendation to use only oils with high ZDDP levels, and preferably 20w-50 viscosity. But those turbos use a steel on steel thrust bearing which is dumb. I don't think any of the smaller ones are like that. But anyway, see if he has any special motor oil requirements going along with this turbo. The evo guys have a problem we don't have, in that they are mostly using the OEM recommended 10w-30 (or is it 5w-30) oil, which makes that thrust bearing problem even worse.

I would also try to get as much info out of him as possible about the internal wastegate, and if there would be a lot to gain by going external wastegate. Maybe you could save a bunch of money up front by using the internal gate, and save the external gate as a possible future upgrade. You would want to find out from Robert what he thinks the boost will creep up to with the internal gate. Also, is it a 7cm2 or 8cm2 turbine housing, or what?

Hey while you have Robert on the phone, ask him why they have never bothered to update the words on their web page for this turbo. I mean really, do they want to sell these things or not!
