Well, I think the hybrid is for you then. That hx40 compressor can flow 68lb/min. So you could buy a used hx40 later and swap the compressor housing and compressor wheel to that for very, very budget. The t61 with it's ptrim turbine wheel will never get to 700whp no matter how much the builder states the compressor wheel flow specs.

I think you'll really enjoy the hybrid holset since it will spool very well for your goal. It will be plenty for your stock block. And can run the stock hx35 turbine housing and have more turbo than your 6-bolt can handle. You won't really need the nitrous for spool :) Just to get more than 600whp.

Well guys i bid on another holset, its a 6 blade hx35/40 hybrid less then 50 miles on it. If i dont win the bid im just going to get a T4 masterpower t-61.:sosad:

Will see what happens!

I will come over and smack you if you get a master power turbo:beatentodeath:ROFL
You should just get a true hx40 with a BEP bolt on hosuing and stick with stock exhaust stuff and you can reach your 500whp goal and then when your ready just upgrade the housing and be set it would be cheaper and you wouldn't have to upgrade turbos twice. Not to mention stock header and exhaust is free if you have it still and if not it's crazy cheap to find.

^^^This is what I wanted to say, buy you were already bidding on the hybrid. Which is still a good turbo and the stock holset housing can get you to your goal and beyond too. The good thing about the straight hx40 is that the spool is about the same (perhaps about 200rpms later). And the bolton housing saves you the above mentioned parts. You can upgrade to a divided t4 manifold and use the stock hx40 turbine housing later. And with a straight hx40 you would have 600hp potential for sure now, with the supporting mods of course.

Well i bid on the hybrid on accident, i was in a hurry and meant to bid on a brand new 6 blade hx40. I just got outbid on the hybrid so thats a relief, now i can bid on the hx40 i intended to bid on.:D

Good news! I just won the bid for a BRAND NEW (in the box) hx40, it has the 6 blade wheel, i dont know if its a hx40 pro or not tho. Im goin to run the stock divided T4 exhaust housing and block off the wastegate. And run a 4 inch bumper exhaust! :) Going to be sick!

Can you guys who run the stock holset housing post up some pics for me? Im just interested in seeing how you did your exhaust, wastegate setup, etc. Thanks.

This is it at the beginning of the year. Don't mind the rust on the exhaust mani, it burnt right off.

i was wondering which turbo would be best for a 2.0 a hx 35 or a hx 40 with the billet wheel? which would spool faster i know that hx 40 would be better on top end power. and where can i get a hx 40 with a billet wheel

GORBS88 do you run a stock holset housing too?

And TimG, can you post some pics of your setup for me?

Thanks!

Hey,

I'm running the bullseye T3 .70 A/R housing. Could still make some more power if i were to run a STOCK holset housing.

Remachining a turbine housing to fit a turbine wheel that it wasn't designed for could run you into a whole new can of worms. Bullseye has some pics and text on a turbo that was done like that by "Forced Induction", don't know who they are. Anyway, it's the latest thing they have under the "news" pick on their web site. They show both compressor and turbine sides.

Bullseye Power Turbos

There is no can of worms if the turbine wheel is not too big for the housing. . . A housing that puts the gases at a cetain angle for the goal is a good housing for the goal no matter what. The entry to the turbine wheel from the housing is always one of 2 forms: offset or centered.

Garrett/MHI/Holset/BW all make many turbine wheels and plant them all in a series of turbine housings. You can't tell us that a .63 ar turbine housing was DESIGNED for a t3 stage 1 wheel which would be stock for 99% of the garrett oem turbochargers and they would design their t3 stage 5 turbine wheel to match that same turbine housing. Yet it matches so well for that t3 stage 5 wheel. The bep housing does phenominal around any holset wheel. The BEP housiong was NOT designed for the holset wheels. In fact, they have these housings more readily available for OTHER wheels. Proper entry angle for the goal is proper entry angle for the goal.

Entry angle to the turbine wheel is all the turbine housing controls. The ones that control the best have a centered scroll and all garrett housings are centered scroll. If the angle is right for your goal, any brand that won't crack will do. Yes, improper machining is always bad. But who wouldm't inspect a housing they had cut for a turbine they must install into it? Don't confuse a decent machinist to putting a turbine housing choice into the 'black art' catagory. As I said on the dsmlink forums, DSMers make turbine housing selection so much more complicate than it really is. . .

Mike,

When are you seeing full boost with the T3 housing? What do you think is going to be the maximum amount of power you can squeeze from it?

I'm about 2 weeks away from firing my car back up and I'm ready....man I'm ready.

Sweet deal.:thumb:

What did you do about the 4 inch v-band? I see you have 3 inch exhaust. Do all holset come with 4 vband.

And did you just weld the flapper door shut?

Im not sure about full boost but in 4th gear i make 20psi at 4400 WITH 272 cams.
AS for the maximum power from this turbo with ALL the supporting mods such as SMIM and such im sure i could see 650+ AWHP.
With the weight of my car now put me around 550awhp at 33-34psi. So with more boost, SMIM,TB and some more tuning im sure there is another 100 there. But that would be near 40psi and maxed out.
I will be going to dyno this thing in the next 2 weeks ( i hope) and will have some solid numbers then.

Which 4 inch v-band? My exhaust flange is a waterjet stainless flange of a CAD model that I drew over 2 years ago.

I welded the gate closed.

I meant how some of the holsets come with a 4 inch v-band discharge. I was asking what you did with yours seeing that you have 3inch exhaust.

I see know what you did thats pretty neat.

Can you make another flange in mild steel? I cant seem to find anybody that will do it. The only ones ive found are for the hx35.

im about to buy a hx40 pro where can i get the billet wheel for it?

Judging from your mods list, you're far from being able to support this turbo in it's efficiency range. I wouldn't put too much effort into getting a billet wheel until you can safely support this beast of a snail. This is a 68lb/min turbo.

oh i know trust me nothing bigger then my 14b is going on my car for along time, saving up as week speek to build my motor and tuning, once i get the new motor in the car get it tuned decently then the hx40 is going on my car :D

Hx35 spools faster. Billet doesn't change spool speeds as much as many think.

I think the billet wheel upgrade isn't worth it unless you're also upgrading to a larger compressor wheel while you're doing it. 68lb/min is 68lb/min. The billet wheel provides a little more durability when you overspin a turbo and MAYBE shaves off 100-200rpms.

I see everyone trying to downplay the whole billet wheel now because of spool. While I think I do get annoyed with the where can I get a holset made in 1939 in indiana hx40 with a 19 cm t4 housing with billet wheel with v band outlet in black request I think that the billet wheel is does more than people give it credit for. I'll put it to you like this HTA is the same thing minus the different style anti surge cover is different and it has proven it's better so why would this be any different.
