Considering that Carl made 516whp without dropping off up to 8k on a stupidly conservative timing curve, I'd say he easily had 550+whp in it on the bolt-on housing. A bigger housing will basically trade spool up for top end, so choose where you want your powerband. It can't hurt to run what you have since you've already got it, can always swap it out later.

This is with the BEP .55 A/R? Im still unclear as to what turbo it was: 35, 40, or hybrid. What wheel: 6,7, or 8?

I wonder if Bullseye would develop another housing with a larger A/R to gain some top-end? (I plan to rev to 9k at the track providing necessary aiflow.) How is the spoolup with the BEP?

On my stock intake mani, stock 2g head, 8.3:1, stock cams, 2.4l 7 bolt, 2.5" dp, stock O2, 3" Cb, shitty fmic piping. I had 17-18psi by 4100-4200rpm with minimal tuning. This was with a 8blade HX40 in a bullseye housing.

Yea. I really like the straight hx40 in the bep housing. decent spool. hellatious potential. The hx40 turbine is big enough to get away w/ the smaller bep turbine housing. It will bolt on to a stock exhaust manifold AND O2 housing!!!! this is why I think it's perfect.

Which part of my hybrid is the HX40,the turbine part or compressor part?

That's what Carl was running, the 6 blade "pro" HX40 in the BEP housing. I agree, you can't compare a housing directly when two different turbine wheels are used, but it does give some representation of the potential of the housing itself.

The problem with all these HX40 wheel/housing combos is that if one person runs extremely well and another person is disappointed, focusing on the correct part that is to blame can get tricky. It seems that people tend to blame the BEP bolt-on housing for not flowing well when in reality it's a small-ish turbine wheel at fault.

Anyone able to list a source with the 12cm turbine housing with T3 flange for my Hx40/35?

Seems like the bigger turbine would help based on reading this thread.

If you are wanting used I'd look on some of the diesel truck forums. They like going to the slightly bigger housing as an upgrade so will have 12cms laying around. Otherwise keep an eye on ebay, they come up there too.

For new I know people who have dealt with www.htturbo.com with nothing but good to say. (though their site appears to be down right now) I'm sure they could hook you up. Many of the diesel shops should be able to help with new also, possibly even used.

Contact this ebay seller, http://stores.ebay.com/TURBOCHARGER-AND-DIESEL-INJECTION
this place is right down the road from me and they have hundreds of turbos stacked up on shelves and in bins. I almost blew my load when I walked in the door.:p There fairly cheap.

I'm going HX40 with the "PRO" 6 blade and possibly the HX35 exhaust wheel with the BEP housing. I'll be plenty happy with 500awhp.

If you haven't gotten it yet, just get the straight HX40 pro. It'll spool plenty fast and the turbine wheel won't become a restriction.

AMEN! I see this same problem too. So many see that big compressor HOUSING on the HX35 and expect breathtaking airflows. It's just an example of what "bling" really is. So yea, it would be better to say that the BEP housing is too small for the hx35 for reaching the potential of the hx35 compressor.

JWoodley, listen to these guys. Don't waste your money swapping in a larger compressor of which you'll never be able to see the potential. You turbo will have more mass to spool and a straight hx35 seams to be able to push a little more than a 50trim. Which should be good for 500whp (since you'll be happy w/ that number). If you want that hx40 pro wheel, get the whole thing! It will spool pretty well in the BEP housing from everyone's experience.

I'm convinced. I'm looking into the latest HX40 Pro. I'm just debating internal vs. external gate. I plan on keeping the stock 7 bolt bottom end for the better part of the next two years. LOL

So, I could probably get by with the internal gate on the 7bolt. From my understanding it starts to open around ~26psi. Once I get my stroker built to my liking I can always opt for an external setup and really squeeze out the numbers.

External off the collector always when the option is still there. Never mess with an internal unless you can't afford the external setup.

Spoke to David of Bullseye. He states that the HX40/35 can make up to 500whp. However he highly recommends the BorgWarner(SC362) turbo's as a much better option all around to meet my goal of 550whp. If not he says HX40 but he'd have to see if one is available. In that case I'll sell my HX40/35 which he says is still a very good turbo if you plan to stay in the 350 to 500whp range.

I love you. ;)

Does anyone know which Holset this is? The only numbers on it are 3533410 USA which is on the exhaust side. You can find pictures of it here. Thanks and let me know, Keith.

That looks like a t4 turbine inlet flange. So my guess is an hx40 or hx55. Likely an hx40. Maglin's (Jerimiah's) hx55 is HUGE! looks bigger than that.

BTW , the compressor blades look "tow-up". I doubt your turbo is still in balance, which will mean hell for the journal bearing.

Yeah the blades have been fixed since that picture and the hot side has been cleaned and repainted for now. I am working on polishing the compressor housing. The turbo looks nothing like the pictures now. Any more help on what it is though would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks again dsm-onster, Keith.

i plan on running a holset hx40 here shortly with a bullseye housing. im wondering how much im giong to have to dent the water pipe and will i beable to retain my stock cooling fan? i have not found a slim line fan that keeps my car as cool as i like it. any information/pics will be helpful

thanks in advance
david

You won't be able to fit a stock fan in there without major cutting, hacking, and headaches.
