What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

So you think that the compressor housing is a 14b and the exhaust side is from a 16g?

Yup, it's a typical mod done to 14b's. Old turbos usually have cracks in the hotside (turbine housing) so they get replaced. In this case, the previous owner replaced it with a bigger turbine housing to enable the turbo to breathe easier (bigger outlet on the 16g). The actuator is also from an ebay 16g because a stock actuator from Mitsubishi (both 14b and 16g) are not adjustable like that one, only ebay 16g have that one. The entire center cartridge is most probably 14b as well.

14b is a great sturdy turbo nonetheless, rebuild it and have fun with it :D

No need for a number on this one, 14b with a 16g hotside/actuator

You know the 17c and 19c look like this also? Numbers tell the tale and this one does appear to be a 14b but that is not a stock dsm hotside. As stated above it looks to be an evoIii hotside. If it's genuine it should have an 070 cast into it.

Very true, but both those turbos also have different compressor housing (shape and outlet) which is why they can easily be dismissed. As for the hotside, having 070 is not the only way to check whether it's genuine. There's a simple difference to tell which is which.

^ Is a genuine MHI, notice the straight metal arm attached to the wastegate flapper? His is curved like the ebay housings, hence an ebay housing. You can also see where the wastegate attaches it's flat on a real one, and elongated on an ebay one.

Kind of useless huh?
Absolutely not. It's a 14b with a bigger hotside, that's all.

Not all of them. I own one. Frankenstein jr turbos had a custom machined housing. Difficult to tell unless you get up close and notice the flange on the compressor is thinner which means the inducer is larger.

Bought the car and they said it was a FP green. I don't believe it is since there is a Mitsu symbol on it. I lean towards a 20g. But if a WiseMan want's to chime in or somebody that knows what this is for sure that would be great.

I have to replace the seals on it is why i'am asking.

Thanks,
Austin

Is mine really a fp green?
If so where can i buy a rebiuld or do i need a rebuild? I have a tiny bit of side to side play, no thrust, and when i do a blt i get gurgling in the crankcase. Also my car feels like the turbo is not doing anything.

What are your thoughts on what i need? How much do you charge to do it?

i am trying to understand some of the aspects of this talon AWD that i just bought...

The turbo says TD05H, but from when i searched i saw a thread that was never answered because there was no picture of the compressor wheel.... well i have a pic and would like to know for sure...

Stock 14b.

I don't know what you were trying to type into the search but it definitely wasn't very effective; a quick Google image search would have probably been a bit more helpful for you.

Here's the serial number listing for all td05 snails. ---> td05 serial number id

Notice the 49178-01010 stamped on the compressor housing, that's how you ID it.

:dsm:

If it is a green you need an oil restrictor on the feed line. Its black and fp sells them. If your not feeling boost I would do a boost leak test. How is your pcv? Could be the noise your hearing.

Use the black FP filter on a journal bearing turbo and it will last until the first time you try to boost it. The black filter is for ball bearing turbos ONLY.

By the way- this is a turbo I.D. thread....let's keep the random tech questions out of here, please.

I just recently traded for a turbo that was supposed to be a t28, but looks more like a t25. The numbers on the tag read tb2566 and the part number is la2509. Any insight would be helpful. Does anyone know the ind. and exducer sizes on a t28 compressor wheel?

I bought this turbo a while back and was told it was a fifty trim but i don't know. if some could help me out that would be great. on the under side you cant see it has tdo6 up raised on it.
