What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

I'm a little curious about my turbo. I've owned the car about a year now and haven't pulled the turbo off. It's getting some shaft play so should figure out if it's worth a damn to keep or not. The compressor says AiReseach on it so i'm assuming it's a garrett then. The only numbers i could find on it were GIL4 (on front) and 363 (on bottom). The hotside i found 78-11830, D215, 370, and 2128 if i read those right. I searched around and i believe it's a 7cm. I've got a few pics if they help. Thanks a lot.

Qould just like to ask what you guys think. Is this from the pics that are shown a genuine evo 3 16g turbo. the seller is local to me. He is saying it came from forced performance a while back and it is brand new. checked a few other threads of how to tell if it is a real 16g but there's so many opinions and variations going on with knock offs. Thought the peeps that run the evo3's could tell me since they are more familiar with them then I. What you think of paying $650.00 for this? Its just the turbo itself. No gaskets or hardware with it

Yes, it appears to be a genuine MHI EVO3 16G with a very nicely ported turbine housing. IMO, the seller is being honest as that porting is consistent with the work that I've seen from FP.

$650 is a steal considering what these are going for these days. I would buy that in a heart beat.

Just make sure that the one he's selling is the same one pictured. As seen in the pics, on the compressor housing underneath the serial number it should say "49178-01470." The "47" is stamped, the rest is cast.

i searched google for a TD06 and part of the numbers you provided and came up with this link
TDO6 - Mitsubishi - Catalog - TurboMaster. Looks like it's a caterpillar model

Ok iv got a 95 Gst was a 6 bolt swap but blew up with the turbo I'm trying to identify I have a 7 bolt with I believe at t 25 so anyway what's this other turbo housing says Garrett aires watch and has bcc air 42

I've acquired two turbo's for free. Trying to identify them and hopefully get a cfm map and find out which flange I need to get. I've searched but none of the serial numbers I've found match the turbo's I have. I'm assuming they are 20g's.

Here's the list of serial's i've found from another DSM forum.
49178-01010 - 14b
49178-01520 - Small 16G
49178-01420 - Big 16G
49178-01470 - EVO III 16G
49179-05200 - TD06 - 16G

You should have posted this here. Welcome to tuners and good luck with it. If you can run that turbo you are going to need a bunch of mods, your profile isn't filled out so I assuming your stock. You can't just bolt that bad boy on and go. Just do as much research as you can and learn a lot.

If I'm not mistaking those are ebay turbos? Due to the data plates rather then the forged(not sure if this is the correct term.) in model#?

It's listed as a TD06H 18G. In other words it will be nothing more than a really, really laggy 18G if you use it with that turbine wheel and housing....a guy with a TD05H 20G will outspool you by 800rpms or more and STILL make more airflow.

I have a fully built Honda motor that its going on. Not a DSM I'm sorry, I didn't know where else I could find information on this turbo. And lag is Non-LSD FWD best friend. But your saying the turbine wheel and housing are to big for boost before 10k rpms!

That turbine wheel / compressor configuration would see full boost around 4200 with a DSM bolt-on 7cm turbine housing....compare that to a TD05H 20G which sees full boost around 3800.

With that oddball turbine housing, add an easy 500rpms....subtract displacement, and you'll be lucky to see full boost by 5500 on your Honda application.

5500rpm isn't bad seeing as the motor revs to 10500rpm safely. From the research i've done the turbo can push up to 350whp? Correct me if I'm wrong please, and can't thank you enough for the help thus far!!

Perhaps- but a smaller housing will allow quicker spool and up to 1000rpms of additional usable power. Any TD06H turbine housing will fit...since you have literally $0 in the turbo, I'd get something like this and enjoy quicker spool as well as a more-familiar T2 inlet flange.

It can generate 40-42 lb/min; if your tune and supporting mods allow 350whp to be made, then it will make that much. Turbos are measured in relative airflow, not horsepowers.

can anyone tell me a little more about this turbo.

I believe its an hx40 6 blade, with bep t3 housing, if that is true, what are this turbo rated for, its tagless and i bought it from a local over here for 800$ was it a good deal, it has no shaft play once so ever and only has around 500 miles on recent rebuild.
