What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

OK guys this is really simple. My room mate keeps telling me that the turbo that came off my laser is a t25. I'm telling him that its a 14b but he won't listen. Am I right or wrong? I didn't really think this was appropriate for the tech section so I posted here.

Help me end this argument!

Heh thanks! I googled it before but there are several conflicting serial numbers posted on different sites concerning which one is actually the 14b.

Okay so a local guy is selling a 16g for $200. He doesn't know what kind it is and he said it has no shaft play. He sent me these pictures I was wondering if someone could tell me what kind it is and the value. I was originally planning on a 68hta but this is cheap enough that it wouldn't put me back too far and be a good upgrade from the t25.

Any reason? That's a great price for that turbo if it's in the condition it appears to be. I don't see any cracks in the turbine housing; just one bolt that needs extracted.

Well I was really planning in going bigger. I ended up picking it up for $120 and my old hks bov that was in rough shape. It has no shaft play and looks great. I'm excited to have something a bit better than my t25.
 
I have car in my sites posted about it yesterday..My problem is i don't know if its a 16g turbo or stock 14b..I am not near the car to check, my brother is out there to bring it back if i want it...
My question is how with out pulling anything off do i find out if it is..It had td05 on one side ..I was reading theres another number stamped some where that tells if its a 16g with the #400's ..
Besides that is there any other things to tell them to look for?
 
only way to be 100% sure is to pull of the intake hose and look at the compessor wheel. You only have to loosen one clamp with a phillipis to do this. 16g has 6 pairs of blades.
 
Easiest way, check the serial number on the compressor cover with a flashlight (or tell your brother to)

14b's have the exact same blades all around, 16g have one big then small then big and so on (or staggered blades to be more precise)

seen many write up's on serial numbers so many different numbers..Thanks everyone , also going to make them take the intake off and count the blades ...
 
serial numbers don't say anyhting for certain. you can easily cut a 14b cover for any 16g wheel.
 
I picked up this turbo from a friend for 45 dollars, it obviously needs to be rebuilt, I know this. Can anyone tell me what turbo this is and which car it's from? I think it's a 16G from an Evo III but I'm not sure. Pictures are attached to this post.
