so i've been thinking about getting a 20g for my Tsi but haven't wanted to spend almost $1k for one. found one from FP thats a t3, but can have a stock 14b/16g turbine housing swapped onto it (which i already have). i was just wondering if anyone was running this particular turbo with OR without the t3 housing. seems like a good deal for only $539 + tax and shipping. hopefully i can get some good responses.

Im running the hrc 20g with the td06 housing and i like it. Id sell it though if you wanna buy it LOL shoot me a pm

I believe the HRC 20g comes with a T3 housing though. You'd be having to sell it cheap being that FP sells theirs for like $539 with the T3 housing as well.

send a pm to jusmx hes knows this stuff.

Already did that about an hour or so ago. He'd out of 20g's, so scratch that idea.

MHI 20g goes for 600$ on forceperformance. If you really want the Cylcone version go on car-part.com and look it up. They're around for decent prices. Might need a rebuild but it'd still be cheaper and you'd have a like new turbo.

Yeah, that's fine for a 1g, but on a 2g you'd need the J-pipe, etc. Not to mention that that's almost a $1k turbo. And I know that Mike (original poster) and I are both looking for cheaper than that, with around the same power level.

Thing I'm wondering about the 20g turbo from FP is if you throw on a turbine housing from a 14b/16g, will the wastegate actuator that comes with the turbo bolt up without any modifications or not. That's a big determining factor there.

I have it just have not ran it yet gonna this summer, its a great looking i guess i have put it in a 7cm housing and clocked it ill be running it with an external gate. The t3 housing would work fine but it takes a goofy o2 housing i found that hahn wants to much for one and i called up godspeed they were cheaper but i have everything for the 7cm housing.

if you leave it clocked like it is in the t3 housing the actuator it comes with will but it wouldnt be a great idea cause it would have the discharge pointing up. i dont see why the actuator it comes with couldnt be used with the dsm housing as its got an adjustable arm but you would have to drill and tap bolt holes in the comp housing. again im not sure cause i never even tried cause ill be using an external gate. but its a damn good deal for 540 imo

Can you take a picture of it by chance so we can see what you're talking about? I'll be going side exit exhaust so don't really care if it won't bolt up to a stock downpipe.

sure can give me a couple hours to get home and such and figure out how to upload pics LOL

I was just thinking on my way home about turboing my car and I couldn't figure out if I would go for BIG 16G or 20G. It's funny you guys mentioned it cos I was just looking at FP 20G. I like the idea of more power but less boost.

Not if I beat you to it. I just don't have a turbine housing yet though. I'll find one.....somewhere :)

eh couldnt get pics had an interview last night didnt get to it ill try and grab some later today before i leave for minneapolis but if i dont please be kind LOL

I hear all this "14b/16g turbine housing" talk. . . Remember that they are different housings. The 14b 6cm^2 turbine housing is too small for even the 14b in my opinion. I saw huge gains going to a 7cm^2 housing with the ol' 14b. Any 16g compressor and especially a 20g compressor is worthless with a 14b turbine housing.

With a 16g 7cm^2 turbine housing you have more opportunity to see the full potential. But you still will need race fuel boost pressures to overtake counterflow from backpressure to do so. Swapping to a t3 manifold will cost you 150ish. And, you'll have a much better turbine housing for the task. A 7cm^2 turbine housing (that makes life much harder seeing the full potential of the 20g) goes for about $75 used now-a-days.

For the flow and spool speed of a t3 setup, remember that the hy35 is an open t3 housing turbo with similar or faster spool than a t3 20g with FAR more potential (140mph trap speed with PUMP 93). So if you're sure you want 20g power, then you need to stick with that 20g t3 turbine housing for best results, or simply look elsewhere at turbos with more potential and cost less to get hanging off your engine.

The advantage of that 20g is that you can get it with that big housing, buy a 7cm^2 housing and get great 16g power out of it. Then later if you want more, you can upgrade the manifold and already have the larger t3 20g housing waiting. It's a good turbo to 'build into'. But if you're sure you want 20g power, then you have more options to weigh.

Everyone have their torches and pitch forks ready? I'm dusting mine off. Lol.

As for me, if I go with it, I'll only have about $900ish to spend right now. $540 for the turbo, $200 for the rest of the i/c piping I need, about $100 for the oil and return lines, and of course all new bolts (manifold at the head, manifold to turbo, and O2 housing). I dunno that I can spare the extra $200 for the manifold and getting my exhaust redone.....right now. And personally looking for a 16g turbine housing if I can, but I'd take a 14b housing for the time being if I HAD to.

Wait, I can't see in the picture but wondering if the stock O2 housing would bolt up to that T3 turbine housing. Looks like it from what I can tell but of course they're only posting up one picture of the freakin thing.
