This is the ongoing build of my 99 Northstar White GSX.

Yo!

So I got this thing all buttoned up and took it out around the neighborhood to break in the brakes and do some engine deceleration to break in the motor.

I was constantly checking for leaks, AFR's, oil pressure etc. just making sure nothing was loose or leaking.

I was just getting a half tank of gas, pulled out, and engine completely seized up.

At this point, I believe the oil pump seized.. TBD.
Nooooooooooooooooo! Damnit man! I hate to hear that for you. Hopefully it's something simple.

Well, pulled the timing belt.

Oil pump spins freely, crank will not budge unless I use a breaker bar. Pulled the starter thinking maybe that was the issue, didn't change. I'm really lost. I'm talking with the builder currently. Will keep everyone updated!
Would like to see what the crank bearings look like now. - Rod bearings too

Let's wait I remember when I spun a rod ugg worst feeling had to tear the engine all over, I committed to doing a full rebuild .

Do you have a diagnosis? I hope it's not something catastrophic!

A similar situation happened to me... I was about 60 miles into breaking in my new 2.3L build when the car seized up and shut off at a stop sign. It was late at night, didn't have a cell phone, and I was just cruising around back roads. I was lucky enough to have a friend come by the same stop sign after only a few minutes and help out... a total coincidence that he was practicing drifting his 240sx in the same industrial area. For me it turned out to be a broken bellhousing due to a defective ACT clutch that was put in with the new engine.

No diagnosis yet! I want to drop the trans asap. Just been busy with work, bought a new house, and 2-month old daughter!

Wait you can buy daughters?

Wonder how much mine would sell for. :p

In all seriousness congrats.

Pulled the pan, pretty unfortunate. Clearly blew through the thrust surface of the bearing, then continued to absolutely torch the bearing until it spun, then seized the crank.

Open to ideas as to what could have caused this in 3 miles of driving, and idle time in the garage with plenty of oil pressure, and engine was primed before starting up.

Damn man perhaps some material in there or possibly tolerance issue when assembled. I see that you are very thorough though. You definitely need to see what caused it or you are gonna have to do it again maybe

Congrats on the baby! I couldn't get any work done for like 2 years when my daughter was born Iol. Luckily she's in kindergarten now, it goes fast!

That HAS to be build error or maybe a defective part. Either way it should be on your builder imo. Good luck with it

Whats kind of kicking around in my brain is something along the lines of not properly refinishing that journal on the crank or the incorrect size bearing was installed. also, take a look at the oil galley in the crank, is there any debris in there? maybe it got clogged. just my 2 cents on it

how often do you start this motor? could it be from sitting for long periods of time and its to dry each time and eventually wore out? Check things like the pickup is not blocked if anyone used RTV instead of the gasket.

just one of the ideas but the trust loading should of been checked ( end play ) and noted down to you in the build.

Sure looks like an incorrect finish/champher on the crank journal. End play measurement, or the lack thereof would've been a dead giveaway something was wrong...when there most likely was zero.
F**k, sucks man. Keep going, you'll get it back to golden.

Brand new motor, hasn't sat long at all.
