The 1G manual tranny came with a TD05H-14B, The auto however came with a TD04, and although this turbo is like the T25 is is not the same turbo... The t25 is actually a better turbo..But that is only my opinion...
TD05H only refers to the exaust housing. Like it was stated earlier the 14b, s16G, B16G all utilize this exaust housing. So one must visualize the fins to see which it is...More than likely your friend has a 14B...Enjoy it is a good turbo...Not the best but not shitty either. I use a ported 14B on my 2G and it is great.

ok i just picked up a 1990 tsi 5spd, and the turbo is new, it says td04.. is it stock sounds like it came off a automatic car??:hmm:
 
I didn't see any numbers, nor did I measure anything yet. 18g, 20g? Sorry not the best pictures but thanks in advance.

Looks like a Generic 50-trim hybrid to me. Could have a variety of T04E compressor wheels behind that cover, though....won't know details without measurements.

By "generic" I mean "not Garrett"; although it may contain Garrett parts. Any of the turbos built by Precision, Turbonetics, Kinetic, AGP, or a pile of other aftermarket companies are usually Garrett-based.
 
hello i have two turbo's and im trying to figure out whats what here but cant figure it out.

Turbo #1: says td05 turbo serial # vz0603820 and the fins are offset"tall-short"

Turbo #2: says tdo5h fins are offset im guessing serial # 041018088

i think turbo #2 is a 16g but idk about either one really
if you guys need me to measure them let me know

Turbo #1 = MHI Evo III 16G

Turbo #2 = A rusted Chinese Evo III paperweight.


For future reference, the part number is what you're looking for....not the Serial number. Obviously the Serial number is going to differ from turbo to turbo within a certain type, while the part number will remain the same. In other words, if you Google a Serial number you won't get the information you're seeking.
 
Sounds like a 14B to me, unless you got lucky and someone swapped to a 16g

Ahhh it is a Evo 3 16g. luckyy
 
Hope someone can id this one,its almost brand new zero shaft play.

yeah i was kinda thinking it was, it came off a fedex truck cummings motor,my buddy is a mechanic over there,been at him for a hx 35 but he brought me this one dan thing is almost brand new,wonder if i can use it.
 
I'm actually going for HE341 or 351 on this...that's definitely a smallish T3-flanged turbine housing held to the center housing by a V-band.

You can use it, sure. It would just take a T3-flanged manifold that would allow plenty of space for block clearance, some dedication in the form of a custom-built o2 housing, and you may want to get that compressor cover machined down a little....I'm not sure if the extended inlet will interfere with things like the motor mount or not.
 
That turbo was designed to face the other direction then ours does... with some modification it COULD, but seems like a hell of a lot of work.
The turbo is not reverse-rotation, and the compressor cover as well as the turbine housing can be clocked 360* in about 5 minutes of your time....so this turbo could work just fine if you're willing to invest the time to track down a manifold and fab an o2 housing.
