What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

The compressor's inducer is slightly larger than a Big16g's. I have no experience with this turbo but I'd think it would flow similarly to a big16g maybe slightly less due to the design of the compressor wheel.

so is this better/bigger than a 16g? would 16g hot side fit on this turbo?

The 16G TD05H hotside won't fit you need a TD06 hotside.

The 17C compressor wheel isn't the great for our cars, people ran them back in the day and they weren't that impressive. The G series wheel are much better for our motors.

You could pick up a 20G wheel and cover, and have yourself a TD06 20G which is a very nice turbo.

Yes you can.

This is what FP used to do to make all of their "Frankenstein" Turbos.

I'd send it to them to do the work.

Definitely a 17C. In airflow terms, it'll generate about as much as a 16G....but the TD06 turbine and T3-flanged turbine housing were used on this turbo to allow more hotside flow because of the additional displacement of the Sy/Ty engine (4.3L vs. 2.0L).

At best, you could expect this turbo to perform like a very laggy 16G in it's current form. :boring:

Now find a DSM bolt-on TD06 hotside, machine the compressor cover and backplate, install a Garrett 50-trim compressor wheel, and possibly clip the TD06 turbine on this turbo, and you're on to something. You'll basically have built your own FP Green.

I figured this would be the best place to ask this question seeing as how its "what is this" thread. i just bought a 2g it has a turbo on it with the SN: 49173-01400 which when i googled it says that its a TDO25L but i cannot find any other info on this turbo other than it came on the 93 twin turbo galant i would greatly appreciate and help on specs for this thing! thanks!

I believe you mean 49178-01400, which is a 14B....the stock turbo from a 1G DSM. This turbo is a slight upgrade for the factory T25 that came on your car as it's the next larger turbo available in terms of airflow. Post pics to confirm it being a 14B.

A factory twin-turbo Galant doesn't exist to my knowledge.

your probably right, ill have to go look at the number again. the galant does exist but it was only over seas, its a pretty cool car. ill check the number as soon as i get off work and probably take a pic of it.

That turbo that looks like a 16g 3 turbos back is a 14g that came on a fuso truck. and the turbo 2 pics ago was a 4.9 turbo trans am turbo from like 1980.

I wonder the hell turbo I have. I bought it off some guy for $40 with no shaft play, but has a cracked turbine housing.

numbers on the compressor housing are 49178-01030. and yes its a TD05H, even has the 3 stars casted in the turbine housing.

I assume that its a 14b from the size of the inlet/outlet. Could I fit a ebay 16g turbine housing without changing the turbine wheel?

14B.

Yes, as long as the eBay turbo has a turbine wheel with a TD05H turbine spec. All of the more recent ones I've seen were made to spec, but apparently some early eBay 16G's had an oddball-sized turbine.

14B.

:( most of them don't come with a replacement wheel. Any way I can tell if what I have fits?

Thanks guys, it was indeed a B16G.
I have since sold the B16G and downgraded to a 14b for now :coy:

A 14B isn't really a downgrade if your car can make better use of the boost it's generating.

I'd much rather have a smaller turbo that is closer to it's efficiency range on my car than a bigger turbo that I'm running well under it's efficiency in order to stay within my fuel system limitations.

i agree with this or even if you get a larger turbo and run low boost in order to keep your stock block intact... (like i am):ohdamn:

Very true, it's a downgrade for me right now though because I'm running stock boost again.
I'll be running if for a bit until I am more financially fit to take care of any problem my GSX might/has given me when I start maxing things out.

Hey Fellas,

Before we get started - I do not care about your opinions of this turbocharger. I strictly want to know if anyone can Identify the manufacturer and exactly what type of turbocharger it is? (Preferably a spec sheet if anyone is familiar with it.)

Now, I know it says its a TO4B (Which, from researching on this site has a 50-50 feedback status... either really good experiences or really bad experiences with it.) I'm a little confused because:

1) It says TO4B
2) It Says Evo III
3) It says DSM (Wtf??) haha

I'm just not sure as to exactly what this is.... Here are the pics:

Any info is appreciated :thumb:

Ebay knockoff , some 10yr old chinese kid made it. So you can say it was made by "Insert random chinese name here". Spec sheet/flow chart ? The kid blew like hell in it , he said it flows & meets specs. Good Luck :thumb:

If it says "turbocharger" written on it, it is an ebay knockoff. An A/R of 1.15 is pretty big. It looks like it has a T4 style exhaust housing.
