What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

Just make sure it's a real Mitsu turbo and not an ebay knock off if you plan on installing it.

i see you have a bolt on the compressor housing, right next to wear that jpipe mounts up, would anyone happen to know the thread pattern.

Its a 16g if you have a better pic of the numbers i can tell you if its a small, big, or evo 16g. It maybe possible that it is a ebay knock off though.

It's a real MHI 16g. . . That number pressed into the circle looks like a 42. . . which indicates a small 16g.

The numbers in parenthesis below are the numbers found pressed in that circle for 16g turbos:

49178-01(42)0: Big 16G
49178-01(52)0: Small 16G
49178-01(47)0: EVO III 16G

Just to reaffirm, at the very least, that actuator is OEM. Only OEM WGA had the "N" on it.

Just eyeballing it, it looks to be either an 8x1.25 or a 6x1.00, leaning more towards the latter.

I can't tell what is there, it looks like 49178-0(520)0. Whats with the missing number 1 and the extra 0? Shouldn't it be 49178-01(52)0

Your bottom info is correct from all the other sources I'm finding, but it says 52(not 42) and indicates a small 16g. I'm sure it was just a typo, but just making sure no one gets confused ;)

Everything about it seems like a legit MHI 16g. For one, most(if not all) knock off Ebay 16g's have a straight actuator arm that is adjustable, along with some other differences making them unable to be swapped with a MHI WGA.

Evo3 WGA's have an extra lip and hole in the mounting bracket, along with a smaller diameter WGA nipple with a more pronounced bead near the tip. I'm not sure if all 16g's are this way, but 14b and 16g actuators are interchangeable so it could very well be a wga from any tdo5h MHI turbo(14b, all 16g's). Evo3 WGA will have a stiffer spring than all the other tdo5h WGA's.

The turbine housing is not a "lightweight" evo3 style either.

It is definitely a MHI 16g varient, most likely not an evo3 though. The only real way to check is by measuring the specs of the compressor wheel:
Small 16g: Inducer diameter 1.830"/Exducer diameter 2.365"
Big 16g: Inducer diameter 1.892"/Exducer diameter 2.680"
I can't find reliable inducer/exducer #'s for the evo3, but I know the blades are thinner.

It's strange that the previous numbers look like they were milled off, and those don't quite look like the stock number stamps to me where it says 520

i have a 92 laser need a turbo lookin for a evo 3 or a bit bigger have someone saying they will sell me there new one with lines for 250 im not sure if its a fake this is what it says TYPE-dsm-evo3 Part #TD05 SERIAL #MZ0700390 please help with my decision

without pictures will be quite hard to let u know
look for fakes in alibaba.com , if it looks the same, then u know its fake

From the sound and the numbers of the post it sounds like it isa fake. I had a fake and the numbers you read off seamed to be similar. A real one should have tdo5h stamped on one side of the compressor cover and a different set of numbers on the other side.

I can't tell what is there, it looks like 49178-0(520)0.
49178-05200 is a Small 16G cover.....however it's hard to tell because many hybrid turbos are made using the Small 16G platform. I've already had tons of 18G's and one Frank 16G using a 7-fin GT30R compressor wheel inside a 49178-05200 Small 16G compressor cover.

So, yeah- the only way to be sure is to measure the wheel.

Well Ive got this turbo here, Ill be calling Bullseye tomorrow to get some solid answers but since the Super Bowl is about to start, Im not expecting any quick answers! (Go Cowboys! :sneaky:)

I was about to take off the compressor cover to measure the inducer/exducer and compare to the Bullseye catalog .....but
from just taking a quick estimate on measurement I get about 46mm for the compressor inducer - Well, that doesnt make much sense, thats not listed at all on the website. Ok, next measurement. The turbine looks like a 64mm. Now were talking - that fits a few sizes on the website.

What I know before measuring....
It was said to be a Bullseye 46 trim with a DSM hotside.
It obviously has the DSM flange, itll bolt right up to my 2g manifold.

What Im confused about is why its not listed on the website. Maybe its a special ordered turbo?

Heres some pics, anyone shed any light?

(Im off to watch the game! :rocks:)

Clean turbo. Appears to have the enormous V-Trim turbine, but without compressor measurement, I'm hurting.

Could be a Garrett 46 trim compressor (2.003" incuder, 2.950" exducer) but only a measurement will tell.

Interesting.

Cant be the Garrett 46 trim, the compressor inducer is definately about 46mm which is ~1.80 in.

Ill pull the cover once the game is over ;)

The reason Im looking for the exact turbo is I was hoping for a compressor map, but by the looks of what Im measuring in comparison to the website, its not looking good.

All right, what a great game.

Pulled the compressor cover and I was a little off -
Inducer measures 50.7mm and the exducer measures 74.9mm.

jusmx, looks like you may be correct.

Now, is there a way to get a compressor map for this? Im kind of lost when it comes to finding a map for a random turbo with no name. I would assume a 46 trim map from Garrett would be the one, but after looking, I cant seem to find any maps for a 46 trim, only 48 and up.

Im not even sure Ill be able to access one thats right, but I figure I would try. I was kinda looking for its efficiency range.

Hey, now thats service. Happen to tell me where you found it for future reference?

Thanks a lot Steve and everyone else.

Now that I look at it, that little guy isnt going to flow very much. Probably cant even reach over 375 crank hp.
