What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

It's a knock off made by turbochargers .com.
They were a secondary distributor, actually. Slowboy sold these at one point as well. The primary distributor was GT Concepts, and the turbo parts manufacturer was a Taiwan-based company known today as Kamak Dynamics / Kinugawa Turbo.

A very early run of these units proved to have weak turbine shafts but later they corrected the problem. Not MHI-quality, but a much better option to the Chinese knockoffs all over eBay if the price is right...plus they can be rebuilt with a MHI TD05H rebuild kit.
 
Is this turbo a 13t? The guy i bought it from was convinced it was. A TD04HL 13t came stock on the lancer ralliarts and im pretty sure those turbos have a built on jpipe. Is this a 13g from a 1g? or something else, please help.

Td04hl 13t. It came on some jdm 4g63's. I have the exact turbo in my garage right now. The 13g has swept compressor blades, while the t series are straight. Also the turbine wheel is much larger on that turbo than a td04 13g.

Some of the problem with identification comes from Mitsubishi putting td04hl compressor housings on td04 13g turbos.

Food for thought, a 13T actually comes off a WRX. The Ralliart uses a 15T IIRC.

That also looks to be a 13g found on auto 1Gs. Still flows more than a T25....

The wrx 13t is a td04l turbine, and uses a completely different compressor housing.
 
Thank you, i just put this on my 2g eclipse and did not think it was a 13g, im glad someone knew exactly what this was.

I am running no collant lines right now and need to figure out what banjo bolts/lines will fit, any ideas?
 
Hello, not a DSM owner, quite the opposite in fact (Subaru). Sorry. But I happen to have a Mitsu turbo that appears to be a hybrid I could use a hand identifying. It appears to be a cheap (or shaved) compressor housing (no numbers) with a 16g impeller mixed with the exhaust side of a genuine Mitsu 14b? It was also rebuilt, around 800 miles on it and the bearing is fantastic and it has no play whatsoever. The previous owner probably told me everything about it but I bought it months ago.

Knockoff (Chinese) eBay 16G or 20G that someone slapped into a 6cm 14B turbine housing. Horrible mismatch which will likely lead to surge at the onset of boost if you're running 18psi or above. I'm sure the previous owner left that part out when he was telling you everything about it. LOL

By the compressor design, it's not an Evo III 16G...it's either a copy of a Big 16G wheel or a 20G. I can tell by the size of the "hub" area at the center of the wheel. Measure the inducer spec tip-to-tip to find out which one of the two it is.
 
16g sounds familiar. I do remember he said to use a 16g wastegate actuator. As for the quality of it, it feels super solid and it will only be running 8 psi (going on a high comp ej22). Thank you sir, I'll go back to the scoob forums now. Best of luck fending off my dirty old rust bucket when this goes in. :thumb:
 
Probably over paid but I trust the guy that threw it together. If it was in his car then I trust it in mine. Hard to say exactly how much I paid though because I bought it with a custom up-pipe to come off of an NA header and a downpipe with the correct flange, both twisted properly to fit my car (they were on an OBS). And a 12:1 Vortech FMU. All for $500 I believe.

Edit: And I brought my personal turbo guru with me. He said buy it as soon as we arrived. He's a redneck (strapped a gt35 on a bonneville) but he knows boosting.

Apparently he's never seen all the Chinese-made garbage on eBay.

Here's the same thing with a better-flowing 7cm2 turbine housing and wastegate actuator included, along with a full install kit....for $180. TD05 Big 16g Turbo turbocharger EVO 3 4g63 4G63T | eBay

...so if the FMU and up-pipe alone are worth $400 to you, then you definitely got a good deal.

I'll buy that turbine housing. Thatll make back some of what you lost on this turbo.

Then make a lamp with the coldside.

Just bought this engine + turbo set up.

Seller wasn't 100% sure which turbo this was. He thought it was a T66 but from what I can see online the T66 looks different.

I appreciate the help!

A T66 is a T04S compressor- you have a T04E cover on that particular turbo, so at the biggest it's probably a T04E60. Not sure what turbine wheel you have there without specs, but it looks pretty wet so I'd feel confident in saying you should consider a rebuild in the near future.



The oil drain is a little hokey- you don't want the hose to bend like that. A bend in the hose is asking for kinks. All of the elbows in the turbo oil drain should be done with metal fittings, like this:

ya good call - Thx! I was thinking the same thing about the colour of the turbine. Seller says the turbo has extremely little shaft play. I'm hoping maybe the engine that it came off of (not the one I bought) went through a LOT of oil :pray:

I really was just interested in the engine anyway. 2.4L here I come :rocks:
