Yeah, that probably should have happened 15 years ago. :D

Here's another vid from a few days prior to the one linked above. This was with the WGs rigged up to allow boost to come down to 20-22 psi (normal minimum is 40-42 on the compound setup). These were the first clean pulls on the Holley ECU without misfires or other (unrelated to ECU) issues. Fought a year's worth of overlapping intermittent issues that were a nightmare to troubleshoot when I get 1 or 2 days a month to work on it. Hopefully get back on the track this Sunday to try this boost with some grip, and perhaps turn it up toward 50 psi or so. Slowly getting back to where it should be.

Your username is now @Kevin Jewer

Usernames are so 2005. 😄 Well, at least for people like you who are very well known in the DSM community. Usernames tend to cause a disconnect between social media and forums, as people can't look you up here in the forum if they don't know your username.

I did end up running it again at our track rental on Sunday. Same 42 psi boost. It really wants to knock the tire off on the gear change, I had to pull a good but of power out of it in that area, but it ran a pretty good number on low boost. All the data looks good. I'm pretty happy with it. It's running well on the Holley ECU too. I'll try 48-50 psi as soon as I get a good chance.

Was just coming here to add that. This was on the Holley ECU. Same exact ET it ran on ECMlink, for what it's worth. 10.12 on the dragy, so likely another mid 10.0x (previously ran 10.04). HP was measured at 480 on that pass. No prep, water burnout. So close!

I hope so. About all I can do now is lighter driver and an inlet scoop to force feed the turbo a bit. Going to go retorque the head, check the plugs, and try again tomorrow.

I typically do 90 ft lbs every time. I just bumped them up to 100. Sometimes it's a bi*** to get the double o-rings settled into the thick copper gasket I run and it will take several retorques. Everything looked good in this case, I think it may have just been a touch overfilled on the water, so first full pull heated and expanded the water enough to spit out the excess.

Congratulations Kevin. Awesome to see your car in single digits and a Holley ECU, I need to see what those are all about.
Very happy for you my man!
Marty

Thanks guys! That was a fun side project for many years. I've always said that when I put the 16g on the car for shits and grins back in 2011, and got it down to 10.31, that was what made the car fast. I was stuck for years at 8.80-8.90, and after that, marched right on down to 7.90. Being compressor limited, where turning up the boost is not an option, makes you think differently about how to make the car faster, and I'm glad I did it. Good times. Today is basically a blizzard so I'm going to sit here and go over all this new data from yesterday.

Belated update!

I never did get the 8 second pass on the 16g with nitrous, but I still believe it will do it. On a botched pass it went 9.3 I think, and 5.7x or 5.8x in the 8th, so it'll do it. Hard to find good DA around here though, now living in the Ozarks in MO.

After I moved down here I ran a number of 35R sized turbos again. Been a while, I had last done this in 2012 when I put a standard cast wheel GT3582 on it and went 8.89 at 152.

-FP HD3582 went 8.78 and then 8.39 with nitrous at the 22 shootout.
-FP 3586HTA went 7.9x with nitrous
-XR 8064S (62mm) went 7.9x no nitrous and 7.58 with nitrous in 2023, also ran first 4 second pass and eventually 4.86

In 2024 I upped it to a XR 7169S (71mm) but still in the t3 turbine housing and X3C compressor cover, so same exact foot print as the 35R sized turbos. Made almost 1200 hp but cracked the block. At the end of the season it ran a 4.81 in the 8th (good for 7.4x) but have been having some engine trouble since that I'm still working on now.

This year I found the torque converter completely destroyed on the inside again. Sent it out to Circle D and Pete Nichols spruced it up for me on a budget and it works much better. It'll now go 4s without nitrous pretty easily, so that's promising. I'm working on turning two or three bad engines into one usable engine and I'll be back after it again. Goal for this year is a very low 7s on this T3 turbo and a mid 4 second pass.

Sold the track in Ohio, bought one in MO, owned it for a year, managed it for two further years, now happily free of that whole deal and ready to do some racing myself.
Do you feel you were able to turn those tracks around? Do you think they’ll do well in the future? Or does it all hinge on how the new owners run it?

Yeah it's a crap shoot. With the Ohio track, it was bought by a billionaire family. They were able to repave it all and dump a ton of money into they don't necessarily need to get back. They were going to open it to the public after I gave them some ideas for how to insulate their wealth from the dipshits that would try to sue them for it, but then the local racers talked so much shit and aggravated them so much I doubt they'll ever open it to the public. They have ~80 million dollars worth of their own cars they can play with on that new surface.

The MO track went to another owner, I managed it two years best I could but they have some strange ways of doing things. Glad to be out of it. Just too awkward, that deal.

I'm glad to be back to racing and testing myself now that I'm not working at a track every single Friday and Saturday, as I've done since 2018. Onward and upward!

Unreal about the local racers. What kinda crap were they talking? That's insane to me, man. Internet continues to ruin shit.

But, I wonder if the MO track went to someone used to running a corporation. Kind of get "private ambulance service" vibes from your statement there. They definitely have interesting and confusing ways of doing things.

They talked some crazy shit. I'm still an admin on the FB page and see it all. They have no problem embarassing themselves. But those c&nts are the same reason I got out of there, had enough after 4 years.

The MO track is a weird situation. The owner is a guest of the federal government at the moment, shit's wild.

🤨 wow. It’s too bad we (as a community) have to rely on people to keep these tracks open.

Curious, what converter, Precision or an old school Circle D or their new bolt together?
