Damn dude just because of a key cylinder?

Yeah. I need to be on Xanax or something. Big massive shit doesn’t phase me but sometimes the smallest stuff and I’m ready to burn things down.


I slept it off. Just gonna drill out the lock cylinder and order one from performance partout. Channel my inner thief.

I knew I’d get over it though. It just makes me feel better in the moment to threaten the car and make it fear for its life. :p Reality is I should’ve tried the key in the ignition months ago. But I assumed if it worked in the doors, it’d work for the ignition.

Let this be a lesson. Don’t assume a thing.

Anger aside it’s still gonna be a bi*** to remove this lock cylinder without a key to put it in ACC.

Looking at things from the outside in isn’t always as they seem. The amount that I love my car, as a last resort I would tear the whole damn column out and replace it if I had to.

I’ve owned my car since I was 17 though. So between the nostalgia and the memories she knows she’s not going anywhere. Even if I’ve cussed at her and called her a pos on multiple occasions.

There’s always tomorrow.

Lock cylinder and key ordered.
 
Could the steering wheel lock be the culprit? If you hit ACC, the key is working.

Edit - I just checked and the steering wheel lock engages at the off position. So scratch that thought.

Good. It was meant to be funny. My wife’s line about killed me. She just calmly asks me “so is it supposed to be squirting fluid out in a stream when you start it?” LOL

The weird thing is, the steering wheel doesn’t lock. Ever. Key out, key in, doesn’t matter.
 
Can I ask a favor. Can you guys look at this pic and tell me if the starter is missing anything? I swear I feel like it’s missing a ground strap.

Also, that one nut looks loose as shit. I swear if it’s something that simple I’m gonna cornhole myself. Lol.
 
I believe a have a couple of working starters, gladly pass one your way if that one is shot.

Also, once upon a time an incorrectly hooked up starter may or may not have prevented me from starting my car after a rebuild for a week.

IT F*CKING LIVES!!!


I am so stoked right now, honest to God. I'll have a bigger post later detailing everything it took to get here, but right now I'm just so happy. It's obviously not at 100%. There's some vacuum leaks, the idle has to be adjusted/ISC needs adjusted, it still needs to be filled with coolant and the fans and stuff installed....but it freakin' starts man. Months and months and what has felt like decades of work all to this point. IT WORKS. The ECU is wired correctly, ECMLink is functioning great, and all my stuff has resulted in this. Stoked. The mountain has been climbed...from here, just need to finish buttoning it up. But man.
 
Great! -but what's with all the squeaking, are those belts squeaking? are you sure the timing belt tension-er pulley is rotating?

It's got a few issues. Belts all need to be addressed as they're at minimum 10 years old. Everything I have touched was loose, but thankfully timing stuff is all good. But yeah, I'm confident it's either the PS pump belt, alternator belt, or both. It also was spraying oil out of the OFH which probably accounted for some squeaks too.


It's nowhere near 100%, this was just to see if it would actually crank the engine, and if it would actually start. Got another small hill to climb, but it's nowhere near the mountain I just crested.
 
Ayy, you got there. Post a log of it idling and I'd love to weed through it, double check stuff, suggest physical issues, etc.

Definitely. I put in some vacation time so I’ll have like 8+ days starting Nov. 3rd to play with getting the leaks controlled, belts unsqueaked, and idle logs posted. Oh and asses gapped. :D
