Winter 07/08 Projects and Plans?

I had some plans for my galant, but getting a job in WI really put a damper on things. But on a side note, talonTSIdriver, I have the leather seats that originally came in your car. I picked them up from him this summer when I lived in PA. Weird that they would end up in the same state!

the seats out of cinders from Jtoby? ha, weird...

Hey Andy, quick question that I figured you would know man. On the crank case, where I have my catch can line coming out of. What size -AN fitting can go there? Thanks. I was thinking it might be an 8 -AN, jsut was not sure.

I would have to guess a -6 an, but it would have to be tapped as its not threaded or anything. I've seen many guys drill a hole there and weld on a fitting.

Thanks Andy. I was thinking of just welding on the fitting anyway.

Well, My next and biggest winter mod:

Just got off the phone with Todd, great guy. Looking foward to trying these brakes out.

THANKS TODD!

Details, please.

How big is the rotor? (ideally, it should be 1.25 x 13 in--anything narrower than 1.25 in. will crack...been there, done that)

Is it available in a solid rotor? (You don't want drilled rotors--they tend to crack at the holes..been there, done that)

How much?

Ha,

Yes 13in X 1.25in just like you guys told me too. Also yes, its a solid rotor, no X-drilled and slutted.

Price for the kit was $1558 or so with an extra set of pads.

Looks like a sweet deal then. I bet the replacement rotors are a lot less than the outrageous $220 each (!!!) that Stoptech charges.

I bet they sell a lot of them to DSMers. Maybe the rest of you guys should arrange a Group Buy. They shore look good, and at a good price.

Be sure you tell him DSMtuners sent you ;)

Too late...If I talk to him again I'll be sure to mention it, otherwise maybe he'll skim over this thread.

I can see with all the "Do it yourself" brake kits that people are doing his sales may go down, but if you really look at the value you are getting with Todd's kit, not sure why anyone would waste their time.

All BRAN NEW big brake kit for under $1500 or a used big brake kit for $700-1000

and when i say kit, this TCE kit includes all new SS lines, fluid, new pads, the whole shabang!

I fully agree. His kits are top notch and they're reasonably priced compared to other kits. Of course, "reasonably priced" to the average DSMer means something else entirely these days. Which is why he's seen sales for our cars drop.

Sweet brakes Andy!

Did you upgrade the calipers? Are you going to be using the Wilwood BP10 pads?

I'm still waiting on someone to come up with a matching rear upgrade utilizing the 2 piston calipers from the awd's along with a stock front rotor. Just set it up with a hydraulic e-brake.

I ordered 2 sets of pads, one for street use / auto-x and then another set for heavier track use.

Todd suggested these and that’s what I went with:

PolyMatrix D pads for street/auto-x
PolyMatrix B pads for heavier track use.

Nice job Andy, you are going to love that setup. That pad choice is good too, how is the rear race pad market for 2g's? I had to do a lot of research for my deal.

Kyle, how about just using the stock caliper with thinned pads (to fit a thicker rotor) as the E-brake and adding another caliper clocked somewhere? Would the original caliper need to have the hydraulics to function in this fashion?

On the other hand, my rear (stock) brakes are far from being overtaxed so maybe that's just a mod for the sake of modding. Maybe just TCE's 2 piece rear rotor kit to keep the wheel bearings happier.

I'd bet you could use the TCE 11.75" upgrade, slim the pads, different rotor and find a way to mount a dual piston caliper on the front side of the rotor.

Yeah, except that my front & rear rotors are exactly the same shade of blue after track day. Not convinced that an upgrade is worth anything. Unscientific I know. One day I'll put on some rotor temperature paint and learn a little something.

I am sort of unsure of what to do for the rear. I am going to start out with using some Hawks for the rear. If that does not do the trick, I could always find a set of evo rear calipers and rotors as they'll bolt right up with no problem other than trimming the dust shield.

I like that idea Andy. I run the Hawk HPS pads on the rear of my car. Get the job done nicely for me. I'm sure my car is a little lighter than yours, but I think they would work just as well for you.

As for running dual pistons in the rear, didnt Greg just run the stock setup in the rear? Could have sworn when he owned the car, they didnt really do much of anything to the rear break setup except for pads. I could be wrong though. When Tyson gets some time and can start posting on here again, Im sure he could tell us what is on the rear of his car now.

Greg did run stock rears, but just because it worked doesn't mean it wouldn't work better with a different setup.
