Plans and projects for the 09-10 offseason? (Related to Road Racing/AutoX/Rally)

Seems that the RS3 and AD08 have the highest, but are also really expensive.

On the skidpad the Kumho XS has higher grip compared to the Star Spec, but it does not have good feel and is numb, opposite of what you want for autox. So thats why people still use the Star Spec as it has incredible feel and response.

I just ordered my 245/40/17 Star Specs from Discount Tire :)

They should be at my house by Wednesday/Thursday and will be mounted on the Evo wheels the following week.

My brother and I started putting together a list of parts we need to do a catch can system, as well as a vacuum block setup. Not sure when we'll get around to designing the catch cans, but hopefully sometime soon.

I got myself a new battery since my Interstate just can't hold a charge. I got an Optima Yellow Top.

I have to make some time soon to clean up my Cyclone intake and have my friend cold dunk it to clean it up. Then I'll media blast it, reassemble it with new OEM gaskets, and install it.

I'm hopefully going to get some free brake pads from here (if you have an SCCA/NASA license).

Next up:
-Buy the rest of the gauges/senders
-Finish up the custom gauge bezel mount design

I got my tax return today, so I'll probably order up my set on Monday. I should get my wheels some time next week. I don't think I'll put these on the car until at least mid-late March though. Too much snow in PA.

I also got a transmission cooler ordered to round out the transmission "tune up". I'm still debating whether I should get adjustable cam gears for the cams I'm installing. I don't have the tools to degree them in properly right now anyway.

I have everything installed to run SD. I think I'll wait until after the cams are in to then tune it. I have a week in March where the only thing I have to worry about is working on my car. I'm just going to live in the garage that week. :p

As much as I love the snow, I'm ready for it to warm up so the autox and drag races can start again. I'm tired of road salt and winter tires.

Is it relocated, or are you going to relocate it?

I have a red top that is between my rear shock towers, but I got a Moroso box today and I think I'm going to move it again. Probably where the cd changer was if it fits there.

See, I've also thought about relocating my battery. But more for the asthetics than the performance gains. I'd put it in the cd changer spot. At the same time, I'd be making the switch to a red/yellow top that would fit. Would an Optima red or yellow top need a battery box to pass SCCA specs? And if so, does it need a vent? I know I need a kill switch. I may add this to my list of projects if I finish all the others in good time.

It isn't relocated yet, but it will be. I'm not sure when I'll get to it, but the catch cans we'll be designing will be made for that area since Eric's is already relocated. That is towards the top of my list, but I really hate to do it without modding the wiring harness since I'll have to redo some wiring if I do one and then the other.

I'll be putting mine in the same spot we put Eric's. Removing the spare holder and mounting the box to the spare well floor.

But more for the asthetics than the performance gains.

I agree with aesthetics, which is mostly why I'll be doing it. That and freeing up some space I can better use for other things (i.e. catch cans).

You won't need a kill switch unless you plan on drag racing the car. I don't believe one is needed for SCCA/NASA until you get to the wheel to wheel racing (or have a very high classed car). SCCA requires one on the exterior of the car, but NASA typically recommends one that the driver can access from the cockpit.

I looked at the SCCA National Solo rules and here's the only thing I found about battery relocations.

17) Any wet-cell battery moved from the manufacturer’s original location
shall be in a non-conductive, marine-type container or equivalent and
the “hot” terminal shall be insulated. All batteries (on-board power
supplies) shall be attached securely to the frame or chassis structure
independent of the marine-type container. NOTE: This will allow the
use of gel cell or dry cell (AGM) batteries without a non-conductive,
marine-type container where applicable.

So from that I'd conclude that it does need to be in a box. But I believe vents are only required for non-sealed batteries. However, it said nothing about venting. We put one in Eric's car (and one will be in mine) just for good measure. Especially since there's a hole in the spare well already drilled that worked perfectly.

So from those rules, an Optima yellow top wouldn't need to be boxed. I do take my car to the drag strip every once in a while because my friends are more V8-straight-line-power guys. I've always planned for the kill switch to be removable if I need one.

I think the battery relocation might not get done this time around. With the battery being $170+, the necessary wire being another $75 (I'll run 2ga minimum), plus the cost of terminals, distribution block, circuit breaker, etc. Maybe later in the spring.

I'm noticing a very heavy trend of Pennsylvania road racers (and most some what close east side).

Any chance we could put a thread together and plan a small gathering of like minded people? I'm in the Lehigh Valley area, but don't really have the space to host. Maybe we could look to JM or JNZ to host... Kind of like a dyno day, but more like a bring tools and knowledge and go over some cars?

As for the original topic of the thread: I'm relocating my steering wheel, adding a quick release and a new wheel to boot.

I'm also tidying up some previously seen problems like adding more supports to my lexan rear window, fixing my exhaust so that it's out the drivers side, and boxing in the front end.

I'm also planning on the "Quick release" front bumper.... The key is Dzus or camlock fasteners. The problem is doing this and keeping your ducting functional.

I was wondering where you were Greg. I swore I saw your location in your profile change to PA a little while ago, then then it went back to Illinois.

I'd love to have a get together. I will be starting threads about when I plan on tracking the car so if other people can join, that'd be awesome. I had at least 6 people tell me last year to let them know when I went as they wanted to tag along or even join in the event.

Have you seen the NE DSM Meet thread? A lot of us will be there.

Funny you say that as I thought I changed it too:confused: Anywho, I'm here and here to stay (at least another year or two).

I'm down for the meet. I'll try to bring the track car down there too.

Just got my Yellowstuff pads today :hellyeah:

Too bad they don't make Bluestuff pads for the DSM.

How does that sign up form work? Everytime I try to hit submit it tries to open Outlook. Maybe I'll try it from work where I actually have Outlook.

I had the same issue and had my brother figure it out since he uses Outlook.

I left some info in (part numbers and racing type). The fields on the website correspond to the lines above. Just fill out the lines in relation to the fields.

Cool. Thanks. I've been needing to pick up a set of race pads for the Brembo calipers I have. I'll see how this goes.

...now if I could just 'finish' the damn car. :D

The sub-frame connectors were built by Curtis on the VR4 board specifically for Galant VR4's. I have no idea if they will work on a DSM or not but I will have a blog entry when I install them.

Have you installed the sub frame connectors yet? I would like to see photos and your impression of the results?

Remove: previous suspension, wheel/tire, 3065, FMIC, brembos +

Install: DG-Spec Suspension, stock brakes w. race pads, 16G, hotpipe, meth +

Hardcore diet. Go race, no off-season.

:)

Here's what's been going on:

-Just signed up for an HPDE at Hyperfest (Summit Point) and an autox at the Performance and Style show at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
-Got my 245/40 Star Specs mounted on my Evo 8 wheels.
-Having calan (Craig) making some custom catch cans. He's already made one pair which is sitting at my parent's house waiting to be test fit. Then once we're all set he's going to make another pair (my brother and I are doing the same setup).
-Bought a FE36 Ansul 2.5 lb fire extinguisher. We're working on a mounting bracket for it to the passenger seat.
-Started gathering parts for my battery/fusebox relocation and fusebox/ECU harness rewire.
-DG suspension is in the process. Will be going on with SPC upper control arms and DIY rear camber kit.
-Ordered the rest of my VEI gauges and senders.
-Working on getting the custom vent bezel image created so we can get a test piece cut.
-Just got a test piece of round tube for custom coolant overflow bottle mock up. This project should be pretty easy as it won't take much thinking other than mounting location.
-Installed powdercoated oil pan with temp. sender.
-Installed custom front adjustable sway bars. Initial drive didn't have any problems, but still need more time/testing on them.

On my To Do list:
-Have -10 AN fitting welded on valve cover, then shave and powdercoat.
-Have -10 AN fitting welded on intake pipe, then powdercoat.
-Have -10 AN fitting welded on to one of my intake manifolds (probably Cyclone) for vacuum block setup.
-Clean up Cyclone intake, rebuild, and blast. Not sure when I plan on installing it.
-Buy corner weight scales??

Well the plan for my off season was to install the H1C and get the car setup. But i got orders to Japan. So i went and got myself a New 16g installed redid my intercooler pipes gutted the car install the 3 bolt lsd and weld braces on the mustash bar and other rails on the subframe, along with subframe connectors.

So far ive gotten the car gutted 16g installed head refreshed new pipes in VHT coated subframe welded up wide band installed. Im running short on time so im calling it good for now seeing how i have a track day on tuesday at Thunder Hill

Well I just finally pickeed up another talon (90 tsi awd). Girlfriends brother in law got me into roadcoarse . The car is stock pretty much , justhas a 2.5" turboback, and tuned on 12lbs on a 14b. I looking into upgrading the brakes, radiator/fans, fmic, and some enkie rpf1's with nitto nto1 tires (235/17/45), and also some coilovers. After all that go enjoy some track time and see what I ccan do with that and just have fun.

So were over 1/2 way done with the year LOL did anyone do like they said?

I ended up doing what i promised myself i would never do...bought another dsm....a 1g at that :ohdamn:

I find myself over my head in work now....LOL

but on a good note, bought my first house :hellyeah: (note to self: next house will have a 4 car garage and/or barn out back for more garage space....)
