Plans and projects for the 11-12 offseason? (Related to Road Racing/AutoX/Rally)

I'm on the hunt for some wide wheels too. Very interested in the flares - keep me posted.

I've pretty much settled on the Varrstoen ES 2.2.1 wheels. While they are a bit heavier than I'd like, they fit my budget. I contacted a company that sells them and they can get me a set for $925 shipped to my door with the valve stems, lug nuts, and hub centric rings.

Since the wheels are cheaper, that frees up some money to buy better tires or them.

Leaving the car alone for the most part this year, it actually runs and drives now. It does seem to have boost leak/tuning issues since the new head/intake/cam combo went on. I will likely chase that and get Link (finally).

Try to conserve enough cash to do a track day or 2.

I picked up a '90 Talon parts car, contemplating a 1ga rear fascia swap...

Link lite with S.D. got here this week. It'll be installed when the weather allows.

Wes, you are probably correct, if I get any extra cash, it'll go toward seats, harnesses and cage install. Maybe piecing together a new suspension after that...

Here are the reasons why I need to re-shell my car..

Ouch! Those were some hard hits!

No more off season for me. My second AutoX event is this Sunday. Here is some video from the first event last Sunday.

p.s. I did just order new Moog sway bar end links today! :thumb:

After my off track excursion I have several repairs to make.
-New front knuckles
-Front passenger arm
-New JIC strut cartridge (Mine bent at the spherical bearing)
-New TE37 (Yup bent one beyond weld repair)
-Realign entire car

As for new mods.
-Trans cooler setup in passenger fenderwell where stock IC was. Fresh air being fed by fender mounted NACA duct that used to feed my brake duct.
-Dedicated track wheels for slicks...RE30's in formula silver. :hellyeah:
-Much improved splitter design from alumalite as well. This stuff is cake to work with. Metal jigsaw blade on medium speed cuts like butter. This splitter will now have a dam much like the rochester dsm splitter. The only difference is now I will use the dam to mount intakes for the brake duct, one to flow fresh air to the alternator (I fry these regularly) and a ramp to have air go under the intercooler and up towards the radiator. It will also extend all the way under the oil pan.
-Forced performance exhaust mani with Swaintech white lightning coating.
-Eliminate additional wiring and remount the AEM/MSD box to a more secure shelf where glove box used to be.
Here are some in process splitter pics:

Sorry to hear of your offcourse.......however, the work you're doing following that is wild. All looks great!

Sick stuff.....nice driving!

Sweet!

Well my HE351ve doesn't fit as planned. I could probably hack something together and make it fit, but I'd hate to do that. So it looks like I'll be running a small16g for the start of the summer.

I'm kinda bummed. It did look sweet until I tried to fit the radiator.

Any of you have issues with fuel starvation. It will only happen on hard right hand turns with fuel being above 1/4 tank. I really hate running a full tank of fuel at these events. If its just me, I'm pulling the pump and dropping the tank to fix it.

Should be any 2gb. I picked up 2gb FWD rear knuckles, but am not sure when I'll get around to installing them to verify clearance numbers.

Sounds good. I picked up some 18x8.5 +45 (I'll probably use a 5mm spacer and extended studs) and I really want to run a 235/40/18 tire. I haven't tried to make them fit on the existing setup yet though. It will be lowered 1.5 inches in the rear and 1.9 in the front.

Just picked these up last night. Volk RE30's 17 X 9 in a +22 offset. Clearances are perfect and will allow me to step up to a 275 if I need it. Gonna run 255's for now.

You guys need to stop planning and start racing! :D

Nice video, I am really thinking about finding a 2g GSX to make into an ESP autocross car. It seems like something fun I could get into. I have done one icebreaker event with my GSX with my FP green, can anyone say laggy LOL...

Those volks are incredible!

I've been tuning my 2g since I got it back in '02. Started off as my way back and forth to school. I did 1/4 mile passes for a few years and the car spent another few years as a DD, finally the motor threw a rod about a year ago (all of those learning experiences add up!).

So I've been building it for the past few months in prep for road coursing. Aside from a new shortblock, I went ahead and replaced everything I could think of in the suspension and drivetrain in prep for it's new role (replaced all bushing with prothanes, replaced two worn bearings, seals, etc..). For now I'm sticking with stock internals and planning to run no more than 20 psi on 93 octane. I have the standard bolt ons required to run more on my evo3 16g, but this year is all about learning, if I like it enough I'll do the motor right and push it next year.

Today was the first tuning day. Got out there and began tuning the air flow maps for the gm maf at cruise and low boost. Hoping to get some WOT pulls in tonight... Once I feel good and am able to get boost up where I want it, then I'm going to focus all of my attention back on turning and braking.

The last thing I need to order are larger front brakes. I'm looking to stay as close to $500 spend as possible. I'm torn between the 3kgt 13" upgrade, or the cobra calipers / rotors. Ultimately I think it's going to come down to clearance, if I can fit the 3kgt's then I think I prefer them over the cobra calipers... Anyone know the distance between rotor and spoke that 3kgt will clear? also, have any input on front brakes?

I do not know for sure about the clearance for the calipers but they are quite thick. Rule of thumb seems to be, any rim that fits an EVO8/9 should clear most 4 and 6 piston calipers. Yes those wheels do fit Diamond Stars nicely.

As far as front brakes, I will (only half jokingly) say, throw away the dust boots on (most) any caliper that is equipped with them, they will probably melt and may even burst into flames. No joke, seen it happen.

Thanks!

I finally got my MOOG front swaybar bushings on today. My new wishlist is almost all AutoX mods. EVO 8 wheels with Hankook Ventus RS-3 245/40/17's and front and rear ST sway bars to start things off.

The MOOG's are MUCH thicker!
