^^^ PS- Trackdaze is having an event in October for only $275 for the weekend, you just have to sign up by Sunday August 1st, let me know if you want to do it, I will be running that weekend, and since its only HPDE, tons of track time.

DJ, did you not see how bad my cooling system was performing last time I was out? ROFL

I probably will not run another HPDE this year because I don't have time to address the cooling system any time soon. I've got to get moving on my new overflow setup, get the oil cooler project started, and then start on some duct work probably. And then try to figure out where the heck the rest of the heat is coming from as the tape we put on the car didn't help.

I would like to think with the cooler October weather I'd be able to run, but I don't think I want to risk seeing that damn CEL on my first heat.

Yeah I agree, get it sorted and take your time, dont rush into it. I say get oil cooler, get rid of a/c, go back to a SMIC and go drive the hell outta it. I wish I had never done an fmic to my dsm back in the day.

If I had to do it all over again with a dsm, itd be Step A) Remove A/C B) Duct C)oil cooler D) Pads E)wheels/tires F)Konis+GC and RMs G) Track the #### out of it.

Just another data point...

I run a large aluminum rad, 170º t-stat, external oil cooler, removed AC, fully ducted & sealed FMIC & radiator, 100% water w/ wetter. With this combination I had no coolant temp issues last year. Max temp was 210ºF

For winter I flushed & filled with antifreeze. I left the antifreeze in this season and began having temperature issues on track; hitting 235º-240º. So I flushed the system and went back to 100% water w/ wetter and now I'm back to < 210º on-track.

On a separate but related note, despite my big external oil cooler, my engine oil temps approach 240º on track (even with coolant < 210º). My oil cooler is mounted in front of the driver's wheel but has no ducting between it and the opening in the bumper. So my next project is to add some ducting there as well.

We got ahold of some factory A/T cooler ducts just for this purpose, hopefully they'll fit in there ok.

Cool! I didn't know such a thing existed. Please post some photos when you get around to installing it.

240 degree oil temps are actually fairly fine as long as your running a decent synthetic. If it creeps over 260 is when id worry, but 240 is actually fairly right in line.

Modern synthetics actually dont start to break down beyond 280, guess what that second SAE rating is at? Thats tested and rated at 302 fahrenheit. So it holds that viscosity at 302, I tihnk your fine at 240 :thumb:

Yes, talking with people at the track I got the same feedback. Anything under 300ºF is fine with the Mobil 1 synthetic I run. Still, it wouldn't hurt to add some proper ducting to the oil cooler.

Not to turn this into an oil discussion, but why are you running Mobil 1 synthetic? The "euro" castrol oils have proven much better for as cheap, I personally ran (and still run with my m3) Rotella Synthetic in my car, its a 5w40 with a high shear factor and has high mineral and zinc content promoting much better valvetrain and bottom end wear characteristics at the expense of slightly worse emissions if you could even discern (Mobil 1 lost a lot of this just so its more "emissions friendly").

When i'm on track, i wont let up till i see the oil temps over 260F. even then, if i'm in pursuit of a Z06 i'll probably stay on it. ha

as for off season plans,... i dont get much of an offseason. winter is when the real fun begins!
