Having some trouble identifying this turbo, the numbers read 49378-01520 on it.Anybody know what kind of turbo it is?Seller claims its an evo viii 16g but im not too sure..thanks.

Your serial number doesn't match. But 49178-05200 is a small 16G.

14b's are on those year lasers if the turbo is stock. TDO5H is a housing number for many MHI turbos

I recently go this turbo for real cheap. I dont know anything about it. The only thing I was told is that it was bought from turbocalculator.com 4 or 5 years ago and was a floor model for a shop in my area. Its never been used and still has the plastic caps on it from the factory.

A buddy of mine gave me this turbo free pretty much, he was going to use it on his gst but decided to buy a 20g. What turbo is this and can it stand 22+ psi?

My mods are as follows

Walbro 255 rewired
Denso 660
Watercooled imtercooler with two massive pumps
XTD stage 4 four puck unsprung clutch
3inch downpipe and full exhaust
Full speed density setup (Wherewulf tuning)

Its an evo 3 gt....Its not as good as the standard evo3 turbo..But it will be just fine for 20psi..It's basically an aftermarket evo3 made in Taiwan..You have the 02 housing on so I cant see it..But there supposed to come with a 34mm wg flapper..This site lists the evo3 gt turbo to be as good as the regular evo3 turbo..But I really dont beleive them..Heres the link.. http://www.bblgroup.us/automotive/product/evo3gt/

It is a 16g if you weren't sure about that..Looks like a 7cm turbine housing as well..

No it's not a china made ebay turbo..It's just an aftermarket company from taiwan trying to copy the evo3..Id say run the piss out of it and see if you can get it to blow..You got it for free so you miz well use it..When the price of a real evo3 is 550$..

Before I let this thread die I need to ask one more question. Can I turn my evo 3 16g into a hybrid by buying a td05 20g compressor housing and wheele.

I'm not completly certain, but I think the compressor housing has to be machined to allow the 20g wheel..Pm Jusmx141..I'm he's the turbo guy around here..He would be able to either do it for you or at least point you in the direction of someone who can do it..

Absolutly zero play what so ever, so can I possibly do all this with out needing to get it rebalanced? How hard would it be to change out the old wheel and housing?

Well if the compressor wheel is balanced itself and you feel you can rebuild a turbo youself..I'd say not too hard..But I would want someone to do it, who has done hundreds of rebuilds, so so i Know it's done right..Here are the turbo rebuild links if you think you can manage..Otherwise the name I gave you ealier is very cheap on rebuilds..He is also the maker of the two links as you will see..
