yea it has no shaft play i didnt notice the wheel until today i never looked i just felt it for play.
I wanna get a fp big t28 or evoIII towards the end of the summer, still unsure on witch.
I did do I boost leak test I had quite a few. I fixed all but the lower injector seals and BISS and they are both small leaks at 20psi and dont leak at 10psi.
It happens in 2nd gear at 4500-5000 rpms on cool nights.

Try changing your plugs, and you should go ahead and get a new turbo asap, that one doesnt look like its gunna last much longer at all.

Im going to colorado next week soo its gonna be about a month until i can get a new turbo.
I need help on deciding between the FP Big T28 or the EvoIII. I just want a fun street car that i can still hit 12s in. Any opinions?

Fun street car that can hit 12s? 14b. They can be had for very little and flow plenty for 300whp, which is around what you need for that goal. There is a vfaq on rebuilding MHI turbos. This is the stock manual 1g turbo. They are a HUGE upgrade to the t25; as in 7lb/min or about 80whp more potential.

FP T28 is a nice bolt-on turbo. However, for the same price you can get FP 68HTA (modified EVO3 with HTA wheel) which will require some extra parts at additional cost to complete an upgrade (J-Pipe, L-pipe/hose to connect J-Pipe to an inlet of your intercooler, silicone couplers/reducers, oil supply line kit, modifications/bend to water lines, modification to oil drain pipe to match turbo oil drain port).

Then it's not going to cost the same for him to upgrade to that, now is it.

I really like the idea of the "sleeperness" of T28. What kinda times are possible with this turbo? Iv'e been looking and Iv'e seen 11.9 but that was FP's GSX. If a 14b is capable of 12's and 300whp then wouldn't a T28 be capable of alot more?

I also am worried about the boost creep with the Evo III. I have the punishment racing FMIC and I wonder if they would sell me just the J pipe and elbow going to the J pipe, if soo all i would need for the install would be 1G oil feed and drain lines correct?

That FP 68HTA flows 47lbs/min soo that good for a easy 400+whp isnt it? Im not sure if im ready for that haha
That would be a pretty big handfull with FWD wouldn't it?

If you decide to go EVO3 style turbo, then the parts you listed are the correct parts to get.
If you were to spend retail price of FP T28, then FP 68HTA would be a better choice. As far as a boost creep, call Forced Performance and ask them what kind of boost creep you may expect to see from this turbo.. it may already have a larger WG flapper.

True about FP 68HTA and flow of 47lbs/min but in order to make it flow that it will take some work to your intake system (SMIM , larger TB, perhaps intake ports porting, oversized intake valves) plus other supporting mods. I was not able to flow more than 46lbs/min using 60-trim FP3160 @29psi on my stock intake manifold, 57mm 2G throttle body, 2.25" IC piping, Greddy style FMIC, and 1mm over intake/exhaust valves.

Agree.
FP 68HTA is on sale for $849 delivered plus additional cost for j-pipe and oil line.
FP Big28 is $832.50 plus shipping.

What kinda spool would I see with the 68HTA?

Spools like a small 16g, based on a feedback from Curt Bown.

FP 68HTA for DSM's - 11/18/2009

Want to thank Forced Performance yet again for a kick ass product, the 68HTA. Truly a 100% bolt on upgrade for any 14b through 16G, from the first drive I noticed near 10 lb's a minute more airflow over a small 16G and had no extra lag, can't ask for anything better than that. Another benifit ive seen is zero surge, FP really did this one right, good job! Dyno #'s coming, waiting for a custom SMIM then of to the dyno... 500hp on a stock block and basic stock car? Lets hope so.

soo many choices:cry:
i wasnt sure between 2 diffrent turbos now im confused between 3.

If you want less hassle installing a new turbo, get FP Big28, you should not be disappointed with it. Call forced performance and ask them what they would recommend for you.

Ok i have a chance to buy this turbo.
The guy said it was a mitsubishi tdo5 but it seems to have different markings than the one i have. By the way I'm realy only after the centre cartridge.
Thanks for your help :thumb:

OK thanks for that.
seeing as i just need the center it looks like ill be ok:thumb:
If any one know different please let me know.:thumb:

Lancer Evolution IV TD05HR-16G6-9T.

This will only fit an Evo IV-IX, and apparently has a 9.0cm turbine housing instead of the 9.5 and 10.5 used on the Evo VIII and IX's sold in the states.

The center housing itself should be the same, but I'd try to fit it into a DSM turbine housing and compressor cover before swapping all of the parts over. Do NOT use this turbo's thrust plate in a standard-rotation turbo like those found on a DSM....the oiling grooves are backward.

Cheers Justin. Good to know about the thrust plate:thumb: I'm going to buy a rebuild kit any ways and if im right that comes as part of it .
I've done abit of looking round and it seems to have the same center cartridge as the evo three but ill do some comparrisons with the one i know to come off an evo 3.

I have no been able to find out anything about this turbo nor does anyone ive talked to ever even seen a 5 bolt pattern like this size. Its just like all the regular t3 5 bolt flanges but bigger. I really need help trying to identify this

Probably something vehicle-specific that someone adapted to a DSM.

That's a T31 turbine wheel, not sure what compressor that thing is running; you could easily swap to another housing which would be more adaptable- like a housing with a standard 4-bolt or 5-bolt outlet.

how do i go about getting a more standard housing when i really dont know anything about the turbo

how can u tell what kind of wheel it is

Simple....it's a Garrett T3 with a T31 turbine. You choose the housing with the inlet flange, outlet flange, and a/r ratio you're looking for and bolt it on.

Changing the turbine housing will make the turbo worth more when / if you decide to sell it because it will be easier for the new owner to adapt to their application. If you were to sell it to a Honda guy, he would have a rough time finding the appropriate flange so he could build his exhaust system....but if it's a housing with a 4-bolt outlet, he can buy these flanges anywhere.

Because I've rebuilt more of these than you can imagine in my lifetime....you tend to become good at identifying wheels by their blade shape, count, and style.

^^^jusmx141 = Turbo god

good to hear!! if u could tell me what the housing is from id be really impressed. where could i buy a different housing for this that would be more common
