By the AR specs, and due to the clamp on style of the compressor outlet, it looks alot like a Mid 80's MustangSVO turbo. They were journal bearing, and Ford used both Garrett and Air Research turbos.

The 83-86 Thunderbird Turbo Coupes, along with the Merkur Xr4Ti ran about the same turbo, but had a bolt on discharge tube from the compressor housing to a coupler to TB.
No real IC from the factory.

Sounds like a T04E57, but those turbine specs have to be way off....or it has a far-undersized turbine wheel for some reason.

An important thing to remember with Garretts....any numbers that are cast into the housings generally don't mean shit- wheel specs are everything. ;)

Bogus may be right cause it does have the ford hotside flange at least i think it is here a pic. Im trying to sell it so i want to know what it is or if i keep it at least ill know its history.

Wow, it does really have the miniature Stage 1 turbine wheel....and somebody clipped the f*ck out of it.

Unload that piece of shit to someone that will really enjoy it- it's a time bomb for sure. Somebody's going to get their hands on it and crank up the boost, at which point the giant T04E compressor is going to be turning linear speeds thanks to that tiny turbine wheel. Basically this turbo's going to go though thrust plates like toilet paper if you run above 10psi....in other words, perfect for a Honda. LOL :p

That's just a regular .63 T3 Garrett 5-bolt swing-valve housing to my knowledge....fitment is very universal. Would adapt to a downpipe flange with this, and a wastegate actuator of course:

Ya i knew it was clipped like a B, and your right high air flow quick spool wouldnt want to boost to high. Wow inever gave the turbine a good look it looks like a stage 1 for sure! To the honda forums!

OK... did some homework.

Im pretty certain its a Garrett T3 TO4E 57 trim, w stage 3 turbine wheel now. I did the math on Comp wheels measurements and its a 57 trim which makes sense since most of my searches come up a TO4E 57 trim.

On to the turbine wheel its an 11 blade t31 that have stages that go like this.
Stage 1= 68 trim
Stage 2 = 69 trim
Stage 3= 76 trim

I did the math on the turbine wheel numbers i had posted and it came out to be 74.799 trim so 75 trim. The turbine was clipped originally so i can safely assume it was a 76 trim to start with.

Thank to all who helped narrow it down for me i really appreciate it!

There isn't one. Somebody apparently assembled this with some spare parts or it's purpose-built to spool quick and surge like a mudderfudder.

wanted to chime in and say, this thread helped me out big time. was under the impression my car had a 14b when i got it. i was spurred to recheck my hasty first-thought, and have discovered that i actually have a small 16g! best news, its a legit mhi turbo, and has been recently rebuilt! so thanks again.

on the side, justin, would you mind if i pmed you about another turbo i have, planning to use it for a 2.4l later and i could use your insight.

T31 turbines are 65mm/56.5mm. That's a huge difference when compared to the measurements you originally posted which happen to be close as a Stage 1 turbine at 58.9/48.2mm. Keep in mind your exducer spec may be larger as some of the angle was lost in the clip.

It's possible you measured wrong, but to me the T31 has greater spacing between the turbine blades than your example. Even without the clip you can see a good portion of the heat shield through the blades:

have you tried contacting garrett and reading them all the numbers on the turbo im sure they would be able to tell you exactly what it is. I would guess its a t3 or a t4 but they would be able to tell you everything about it

Garrett didn't build the turbo- Bullseye Power did. Garrett won't help you at all.

Hi I recently bought my 2g talon fwd and when doing normal check noticed the shaft has to much play and its time for a rebuild i wanna make sure i get the right kit for my turbo so what model is this exactly? Any help would be greatly appreciated

What kind of play is there?

Back and forth shaft play-rebuild time.

But, just vertical and side shaft play is normal since the oil IS the bearings for the shaft. Shaft 'floats' in the oil pressure.

Small 16G turbo.

That is a Big 16g, not a small 16g. Small 16g ends in 520.

Compressor wheel rubbed the cover- it may be unable to be rebuilt depending on the condition of the journals as well as the turbine sealing ring surface in the housing.

I highly recommend having someone like myself or another rebuilder take a look at this for you before you decide to proceed with servicing it yourself as it may give you nothing but headaches in the future....plus it's a good idea to know why it failed. If it's oil contamination, you have other problems to address or any turbo you bolt on your car will fail immediately.

MHI turbos are the most reliable turbos out there for our cars....they do fail randomly from time to time, but if you're suddenly going through them like toilet paper something's wrong and it's not the fault of the turbo. ;)

Just bought a Galant VR4 with this turbo on it. Shaft play is huge and was pissing oil like a sieve.

A.) What turbo is this?
B.) Does anybody make a rebuild kit for it?

Thanks in advance for the help and for the 2 hours I spent reading through only a relatively small portion of this thread, heheh.
