What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Some sort of T3 Garrett from an OEM application, as noted by the coolant provisions. That's a tiny Stage 1 turbine....smaller than a TD05H. Basically it's something that has no business being on a DSM.

good guess. yeah it is an oem chrysler turbo. For a stock turbo chrysler. found it in my brothers shop while looking for a mbc.

Well a friend asked me to see.what you guys thought of this. He bought it from a guy that said it came off a generator. It doesnt have the silencer horn, but is an 8 blade. So my question is it still as good as the 8 blade off the cummins truck?
It has a 3" intake horn and smaller comp housing with an 2" exit. The wheels look all the same as the cummins.

Hey you can take a look in here >>> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/57878-what-turbo-merged-turbo-id-identification.html

Or this and the other 9 holset threads... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/turbo-system-tech/145691-holset-turbos.html

To be honest we cant really tell with the crappy cell phone pics of the tag or lack of useful pics.. Get some measurements of the compressor and turbine wheels and itll help us a ton! Take a look in those threads and see if you dont find a match..

here's an hx35 (pulled from the classifieds) for comparison:

That looks to be a H1C holset in the first pic. Maybe one of the smaller versions of it. I found one too but it wouldn't have done what I needed. It won't flow as much as the hx35 but I would have to research to know how much. Were's justin?

No idea- nobody really runs a 50mm H1/HX. I'd guess slightly more than a 20G considering the inducer is 2.5mm smaller but the exducer is 15mm larger; maybe around 47-48lb/min peak. Again, this is just speculation....may be more, may be much less.

I purchased this turbo thinking it was a regular 20g.
The turbo says frank level 3 on it meaning its supposed to have a td06 turbine but the specs don't match from vfaq. Also it has a 3" compressor inlet. I measured it with a digital caliper. Could it possibly be a clipped td06h?
It looks like its clipped a lot but I don't know how much. Exducer is 57mm and inducer 62mm.

From the research I did this is a small 16g but I was wondering if there's a way to tell for sure that it's not a cheap ebay one by this picture?

Definitely not ebay. You can tell by the serial numbers. You prob have the list of serials if not search for "identifying 16g". Sorry would link but doing this on my phone laptop down. Prob worth 100-200 with some damage.

Hello,

i need advice if i should use the turbo on the pics. it has a DSM hot side but need advice if i shoud use it or go another route. i also need to know where to get the oil inlet and drain sides.

i did google it but just hit sites referencing to Caterpillar engines where this turbo is from. just need to know if its worth using it.

if i use it, ill have to go with an external wastegate. which sucks, i would have liked to keep the internal one. i got it like that from a dude that was going to use it like that.

Its a garrett M 24 , M-81, A/R .60 (This info is ingraved on the compressor side.

Part Number 409410-9006.

Any help is very appreciated.

13 dollars and 46 cents says thats a good old T04b-VTrim, which comes complete with a lag-city-usa P-Trim turbine, and a less efficient than goverment pte housing. The V trim compressor wheel is about the same flow as a 16g.

If by some chance thats a t31 or a T352 turbine in there, you could get a 50 trim wheel and cover and have a good ole bolt on 50 trim.
