Thanks man!

I decided to keep it recirculated because it helps for spooling between shifts and it keeps the filter from resting on the inner fendar. I also hate having a pointless tube with a plug sticking off of the intake pipe, gumming up the engine bay. So, even though it's recirculated right now, I can always change it and it's still loud as hell with that 4" filter! I haven't been able to drive the car since all of the modifications I've done over winter, so much is still up in the air as to what setup works best right now.

The fitment is nice and everything bolted right up. Trimming the front bumber is a must, but not too difficult. I got rid of the black piece on the bumber just incase, as I still have my A/C. I've been through over-heating issues before with a huge FMIC on my Avenger Turbo, and even had to vent my hood because of it.... didn't want to take any chances with this car.

I will say that I've heard back and forth about this kit, but mostly about the intercooler core itself. How it doesn't flow what it should, but that's just because every vendor wants to think theirs is better. I won't say any names of shops or vendors, because that's not what I do, but everyone has their own budgets and goals. This fit my budget and has worked for me very well. I'm not a track guy or looking to put down huge numbers... but it will help get me closer to my goal of 400hp. Definitely over the stock SMIC. No dyno time as of yet, but it's coming and I'll be sure to post back on results and questions.

Yes I forgot to post about the gm maf on the PR FMIC....The original person who first did the gm maf install was eclipse-gs-t. Here is the link to his pic... Engine Bay - DSMtuners Gallery

He even used the original PR TBE

JFZERO ECLIPSE,
That setup by eclipse-gs-t looks pretty nice, but the only part that I didn't like, when I set mine up like that, was how it was nearly impossible to recirculate the BOV. Even though you wouldn't have to recirc with the blow-thru setup, it is always nice to have the option!! :) Especially if you want to maintain a little bit of stealth when driving through town. Too many people assume every Eclipse is a turbo, so I get a lot of ricers trying to race me all the time. It gets old, fast. I'm all about enjoying my hard work, not trying to break it!

RedTurboEclipse,
I am running a Genuine Greddy Type-S BOV. Even though I did receive the Knock-off BOV with my kit, I would never be able to put much trust in it. Not to say that it's bad, doesn't work or couldn't work, but I'm looking for longevity and trouble free parts. Everything has a breaking point, but I'm sure the Type-S is a bit longer. I've read all about the kinks and queerks of the Knock-off BOV (springs and diaphram issues) that I just couldn't justify using it. Besides, I already had the Greddy from my previous 2G GS-T! So that was another big reason for me buying this kit. There were no more modifications that I needed to do to make it all work.

I don't know which kit I should get. My SM is fubar so a new intercooler is needed, I'm on a T25 for now (hopefully 16g or Hx35 soon) and the last time the car was running there were some overheat issues. I'm worried if I get the VR core I will have more trouble keeping it cool, or it's too big for the T25. What do you guys think about each kit? Other then the obvious good comments in this thread. I'm also putting in a mishimoto aluminum rad when I put the fmic on.

The new radiator will definitely help with cooling issues, but won't necessarily fix the problem. Besides, if you have cooling issues before you have installed a FMIC, than you have a bigger problem somewhere else that you should probably look into prior to installing a FMIC. Other than the good and bad comments in this post about each kit, it's more about budget and your fabrication skills. I have no direct experience with the VR kit, but I hear that you have to cut your front clip to the left of your condensor and radiator for the ultra short route piping. That's your call, but I didn't want to hack anything up on my car. I wanted to retain a "stock look" when it came to the body and frame areas... (besides my air ride of course!) Which the PR kit allows me to do. The only issue I see with the PR kit, it makes it harder to install any other BOV than the Greddy's and 1G's. I'm sure if you asked they would weld a different flange on there, if it's not an option already. Haven't checked their site lately on this kit because I already own one!

Good luck!

O, I plan on running a HKS bov eventually so thats the only con so far... and I love how huge the VR core is :coy:.

Hey guys, I got the punishment/cx racing kit, it is installed properly, but for some reason bottom of bumper gets bent when putting on, I already trimmed the bumper perfectly and there is enough space between bumper and intercooler, but the bottom part of the bumper seems as if it wont tuck in under the intercooler, so it just bends the bottom part upwards onto the intercooler. I took pics of what I mean:

These last pics, showing the gap between bumper and intercooler, still cut a bit more as you can see, but after the cut it still bends

Any fixes for this problem? Maybe mount the bar/core a bit higher? Fortunately the bumper I have now is sagging, so the fmic fits just fine. But because the bumper is deformed, I bought a new one, but it's doing this same exact thing.

Just installed on my auto 99 GSX , very nice setup for the money. Installing this kit on auto car is a bit more of a challenge but i managed to get everything good, while still retaining both stock fans because i still have AC :) and my fogs too.

So did you not have the bumper problem posted above? It doesn't look like it to me. I'm debating between this or the VR kit and the bumper clearance is kind of holding me back.

I have had the vr-speed kit and loved it on my previous gst.

Only thing is the pr kit one, you won't have to relocate your coolant overflow tank and if you ever want to do some kind of funky design in the front you can always reverse it.

Both kits are good nonetheless.

The "mouth" of the bumper will need to be trimmed without a doubt. If i remember right i had to trim out about 1" all the way around.

Alright so I just installed mine today, and I must say it looks great. I have the black piping, and I sprayed mine with Eastwood Radiator Paint.

Problems I ran in to:
- Couldn't fit my A/C fan back on the car because of my external wastegate.
- 20g is not straight down, cocked a little bit to the radiator, so I had to twist the pipes a little and make it work.
- Had to cut the plastic crap on the sides of the engine bay to make piping fit properly.
- Boost source on the compressor housing and on the IC piping... I guess I will run a boost source straight to the bottom of my Greddy Type S, and feed the one from the compressor housing to my MBC.
- Wanted to keep my front bumper support, so I had some serious trimming to do.

BTW: Sorry no pics, my camera is being fu(king retarted

yeah i need to get a new crashbar, right now my bar is raised up by some washers, but i like this idea and to have the crash bar is a plus.

I looked through this whole thread and im still curious if anyone has purchased this kit:

and how they liked it. also if they have any pictures that would be cool. It looks like the bov would be mounted in a weird spot, but maybe not.

Old thread I know, But I just wanted to say I got this kit comming in on 23rd via Fedex.
I am super excited, so excited I had to post about it.:p
Punishment-Racing gave me a good deal for a great kit.
Cant wait for this thing to get at my doorstep.
Only thing I'm worried about is getting the old rusty screws off the bumber.
Any tips on getting the bumper off?

im gonna order mine in a few days, just wondering if anyone has tips for trimming the bumper for a 2ga talon, anything to help me reduce the install time would be great, awesome thread we got going here though!

Awesome video! I already have mine installed, but I think I like this idea a lot better than just getting rid of the crash bar. I think this shall be my next project!!

i just don't see what the point of having the factory crash bar in place will do for you when you have that much material removed... if you really want something in the front of your car to protect you in a crash why not replace the factory crash beam with a piece of 2" angel iron? it would do a much better job then what little bit of plastic is left.
