How about two little LEDs lighting it from the front? Seems easier than finding a spot for a neon "bar" back there?

Ooh, have the 2 LEDs act kind of like spot lights on the IC? Now THAT sounds sleek!
There are no lights, just a lit-up IC :thumb:

We have used a small color changing LED tube in the bumper opening of an intercooler. It was a plasmglow 7 color tube that had the ability to do patterns.

Cathodes and individual leds work well too. Oznium.com has good lighting stuff for cheap.

only here in cali or any other state that has a "amber or white light only, and brake lights only" law. of course the cali law states that only white or amber can be shown in front of the vehicle, and only red brake lights and white reverse lights can be showing from the back. it never mentions anything about lights eminating from the underside of a vehicle.
True enough, but it does say this:

Vehicle With Unlawful Lamps

24003. No vehicle shall be equipped with any lamp or illuminating device not required or permitted in this code, nor shall any lamp or illuminating device be mounted inside a vehicle unless specifically permitted by this code. This section does not apply to:

(a) Interior lamps such as door, brake and instrument lamps, and map, dash, and dome lamps designed and used for the purpose of illuminating the interior of the vehicle.

(b) Lamps needed in the operation or utilization of those vehicles mentioned in Section 25801, or vehicles used by public utilities in the repair or maintenance of their service, or used only for the illumination of cargo space of a vehicle while loading or unloading.

(c) Warning lamps mounted inside an authorized emergency vehicle and meeting requirements established by the department.

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to walk out to the car, open the door and get in in California.

Ah yes. It IS illegal to operate a motor vehicle in california, as perscribed by law. However, in the glorious state of New York, it's only illegal until the nice officers start changing rules and making up things after you've been stopped. :D

Two things...

1. Hide everything... cord, bulb, etc.

2. Wouldn't you run the risk of melting something to do with the bulb or the wires, due to the fact that very hot air will be blowing through it?

Ok, hey everyone, I'm new here and I need some help. I recently went to Russia and bought some Neon lights, Rims, and a MP3 player for my Chrysler Sebring Coupe LXi 99.
I got the Rims installed at a shop, but I want to learn how to install the neons myself.

I tried installing them/wiring them to the trunk light, but it didnt work and I blew a fuse and had to go buy a new one.

The neon had a cigarette lighter connecter which I took off. Now I want to try to put it under the drivers seat and wire it to the Cigarette lighter light, is this a feasable idea, and how would I go about doing this in general, Thanks in advance.

Anybody, please? I really want to install this neon myself and just need a little help.
Thanks in advance, Leon.

Basically, while I wish I could make this more detailed (It's 3:30AM and I need sleep)...the run down of wiring up that neon can go one or two ways... It's been awhile since I wired mine but I remember the basic way it works...I'm sure other members can help further.

Do you want to wire it to a switch? or do you want it on as soon as you turn the car on?

If you want it wired to a switch (like all of my neons are), you need to look at the cigarette lighter wiring, and find the power and ground wires (black is ground, white is power, I believe)...and splice into those two, that way you have two new wires coming off of your cigarette ground/power. Your neon wiring should have a power/load and a ground wire (just 2 wires). Take the ground wire from your neon and join it with the ground wire you have coming off of the cigarette ground. Now the switch comes into play. Take the ground wire that you have coming off of your cigarette ground, and hook it up to the ground part of the switch, that way your switch and neons both have grounds (using your cig. ground). Then take the power wire you got off of your cig power and hook it up to the power part of the switch, now your switch has power. Then take the power/load wire from your neon and hook it up to the load part of your switch. That way when you flip the switch on, power flows through the load. Make sure you use electrical tape on all your splices that way no wires touch other wires.

To hook it up without a switch, I'm assuming you'd just splice directly into the ground/power wires of your cig lighter with your neons, but that's not the way I have mine hooked up.

Sorry if none of this made any sense, it is 3:30AM...and it's been awhile since I hooked mine up, but I think it's right, if not, sorry..my mistake. I apologize if I left any details out.

By the way it helps to get those little butt end connectors or whatever they are called if you are hooking your wires up to a switch, they are like a blessing.

Hope that helps a little. A long time ago I visited the streetglow forums to find wiring information out, dunno if there's any help there anymore.

Ah ok that helps alot, but how do I go about splicing the cigarette lighter wires into two. Disconnect the light, shave off the rubber wiring and take half the wire and use that?

And yes I do want to make a switch so I can easily turn it on/off.

Ok, its pretty basic.

If your installing a switch then you don't need to install it to your cig lighter light. This is basically how its done.

SWITCH:
The switch has 3 prongs.
1) Power (+) which goes to a constant supply of power(you can either run something yourself from the battery with a fuse or some other power source). Make sure your safe about this part, running it to something like a heater fuse is a big NO NO.
2) Ground (-) ground it directly to the frame of your car, or another used ground wire or you can run one through the firewall from the battery grounds.
3) Acc Power (-=) This is the prong that you attach the positive wire (+) of your neons too. Pretty basic.

Note: If the light on your switch is constantly on, (if there is one), then something is reversed.

Then you simply need to ground your neons to something else, and everything should work.

Send me an email if you need any help.

Thanks for helpin out project95talon. He's got it right.

As for your question I just spliced into the ground and power from my cigarette lighter by shaving off the rubber thats protecting the wire inside (be careful not to cut into the wire itself), and I used some extra wiring I had left over from my neons that I hooked into that. I cut off my neon cigarette adapter with like 5 or 6 inches of extra wire attached to it, and then I used that extra wire to go from cig wires to my switch which I mounted under my cd player.

OK, I know how to do it now, but I can't get the freaking "cover" off where the Stick and Hand Brake and Cigarette Lighter are to get to the wires. Theres like no screws anywhere, only 1 that holds in only part of the huge piece. Damnit.

wow....sounds like exactly what i did for my rope light...yesterday....hah...as for the neons to a switch, either get a neon control box from walmart(if you want them to pulse to the music) and then just take the positive and negative of the cig plug to the pos and neg of the box(which is what i did for my neons-and then just do pos and neg of neons to back of control box). or you can just do what i did for my rope light to a switch...i took the power wire and used a knife to shave some insulation off, and then hooked up another wire to the exposed part...did that to neg and pos...and then put the positives together, and then the negative of the light to one side of the switch, and then the negative from the cig plug to the other side of the switch(single pole, single throw). i know its kinda messed up, but hope it helps...

where can i buy an iceled ufo neon kit for my 1998 gs, i searched the net and all i can find is damn UK sites. and how much is this kit??

holy mother of god, 800 freaking bucks for undercars?

i found my 7 color underbory led kit for 160, even came with a bunch of extra ricer shit(led wiper nozzles, led screws, remote for the undercars).

ebay is your freind.

friend of mine has a 2g gsx with red neon behind the intercooler.... its pretty good looking in my opinion, ill try and get some pics

there's a guy up here (non dsm) but had green neon glowing against his FMIC and a smaller neon against the grill in his hood scoop. I looked pretty tasteful actually - just with police, some have different interpretations of the law. Here in oregon, i've found some cops that are all for underlighting/accenting and think 'customization is awesome' and some that are complete jerks that say it's illegal.

Though if you don't mind a glowing amber intercooler, then you'd be fine.

its super illegal to have red lights in the front of your car. I would say that there is money better spent on your car that would make it look better all of the time, instead of only when you are parked somewhere.

I just recently purchased 2-48" and 2-36" blue neons for underneath my car. I am trying to figure out how to mount these underneath the car. I know where I need to go with them(so the bulb isn't visible), but how do I connect it to the frame/underneath the car? There are screws in the kit, but it doesn't seem like they would hold? Anyone have any tips for mounting them, what to use, etc, it would be appreciated. Please refrain from telling me I shouldn't have bought them, because I already bought them and want to throw them on the car. :shhh: Thanks.
