I don't like the shaved 4G63 covers. Makes the 4G63 look like a B16 honda engine.... not good

So me telling you that I like they way the B18 comes stock with the rocky type of valve cover wouldn't sit in with you then,huh?

I had a local shop called Perfomance Coating do my powder coating for me. They used a higher temp powder on my parts but since it is a metallic, it has to have the clear on it. They warned me that over time the clear would begin to yellow when exposed to so much heat. The front of the vc is the only thing that has started to turn. My im, fuel rail, and tb elbow have not changed color at all.

And yes, my exhaust manifold is jet hot coated. That seems to be holding up pretty well other than a slight dulling.

My only complaint about shaved 4g63 covers is... it makes our beloved 4g63 look like a cursed b16 from a honda...

i wana shave my valve cover and i just wana know whats the easiest way so i dont mess it up do i use a dremel or a grinder or do i do it buy hand which is easiest?

I did mine with a porting bit on a dewalt drill. I left some height to each so that I could go back with an electric sander to make sure it is all level. It took hours and hours to shave and polish it. I honestly recommend just buying one from someone else unless you are bored to death.

If you know anyone who is a machinist, or are in a highschool/college and have access to the machine shop, strap it to a mill and take it down that way. Save yourself hours of time and headaches.

i will be sending my stuff off to get powder coated and i DO NOT trust him with shaving the letters so i am wanting to do it myself. what takes so long to do it?

just grinding it down and making sure all the surfaces are even.

I did mine kinda like Maximum did, but I used a grinder to take down the letters and an electric sander to make it all even. I spent the better part of an afternoon making it perfect. I did a spraypaint job over it and it looks good. Hey, make sure you wear those safety glasses! -matt

their are two things that im really worried about. the first one would be me slipping and messing up the powder coat. the second problem would be if i started sanding away the letters and if it started chipping away the powder coat. has anyone ever ran into these problems while shaving their letters?

To add to this thread ive seen people get their vavle covers powder coated and then just the lettering is polished... i am getting my vavle cover powder coated red but not shaved and want to do this...how do i? just sand off the powder coat? wont that look edgy? like what are steps. THANKS GUYS

I think most shave/polished jobs where done by the person who owns it. Check the classifieds, their are a few in their every once and a while...
