I want to get rid of all letters stuff off my valve cover.. I know other have taken angle grinders to them, but I dont have access to that..
Do you guys think a dremel + grinding bits could do it? Or is it to hard and need some thing with more power?

ok thanks... guess i will try to find some one to borrow a grinder from ;)
As for why, well I like the look of the flat/smooth ones a lot more.. Plus I plan to paint it flat black, and slowly make most of the engine bay flat black.
Just a little "bling" (if flat black is considered that ;) ) to make my car a little different, with out being ricey.

I have a spare valve cover that i want to shave. Whats the best way to do this? Ive heard that a die grinder or and angle grinder will work. Any one have any suggestions to what will work the best or make it look better. :talon:

Alrite thanks man. Another question on that how do i get it really shiny, do i use like any kind of buffing compound or polishing compound?

so i seen a couple people doing this so i tried it myself and it turned out great.

i started out with an angle grinder, and it took out the first letter(D) within 30 seconds so i decided to use a cutting wheel on the angle grinder so i couls lightly shave a little at a time. it ended up takiing about 7-10min to do the whole thing. i think it came out nice.

if you do this, remember it is only alluminum, you dont have to push hard on it to grind away.

got the badge off ebay thank you very much. haha jk. i didnt put it on there but was thinking about it so i put up the pic with it set on there to see what kind of feedback i got. just seeing who would bash it or not

not going to be mine soon, im going to put it up for sale as soon as i get the fmic. i cant get the f-ing thing to stop running so rich, stupid sfmu dont work or something. hahaha

I just bought a shaved and polished valve cover today from a local guy that posted a ad in the trader on this site and got it for $70 bucks.
It looks so sweet I love it. I want to clean it up some and then I will post up some pics.
I had to drive in 2 hours worth off BS stop and go Chicago traffic to get there just to have my navi die out on me with no charger for it since I left it at home , but in the end it was well worth it.:thumb:

their are two things that im really worried about. the first one would be me slipping and messing up the powder coat. the second problem would be if i started sanding away the letters and if it started chipping away the powder coat. has anyone ever ran into these problems while shaving their letters?

thanks in advance tuners
david

If you like them all the way shaved. Go to a junkyard. Find a hyundai and use that valve cover. I'm not sure what models but i am aware that they're the same. Correct me if i'm wrong. Just save you time and money. And if you were ever to sell your car, you'd have the stock valve cover that wasn't shaved and cutt up.

Here is mine. If I were you I'd shave it and then get it powdercoated for the polished look. Watermarks can be a PITA on any polished part:notgood:.
