I remember Justin polishing evry godamn thing on that car. You should show pics of the polished pumpkin, not many ppl have that.

ps: your driverside axle is the original axle from my car and my buddy has your original gsx wheels LOL....random info.

Was Justin on here? Yes the car was in great condition when I got it from him.

I have tried to carry on his tradition and I wash it like at least 2 times a week inside and out and under the hood. Since I took over all I have done so far was got black carpet, darker tint, trans rebuild (1st and reverse grinded), act 2600, and a fidanza lightweight.

I am currently saving up for coilovers either Tein or Ksport, a 16g turbo, I have a FMIC waiting to be put on, and some other stupid random crap. Too bad everything he polished is getting powdercoated black chrome.

I got bored so i did it, I'm still debating if i want it black or red its going in to a green eclipse.

Honestly I did mine the half ass way. Using Mothers Mag Aluminum Polish. Valve Cover took me forever. Cause originally I was trying to keep the Letters. Note its a Hyundai Valve Cover... I wanted to do the letters up in Red... and the valve cover Polished. But I couldn't get it sanded around the letters. So I shaved the letters. I found better ways to do it, which costs more... but I'm gonna start polishing and powder coating so should be fine. Going to use Sanding Wax Bricks and real polishing wheels... doing it that way makes it come out shinny. Mine came out shiny and you can see your reflection in the peices... but its hazey... And you can't clear coat polished pieces. I mean you can, but your just setting yourself up for failure. Paint wont stick, so eventually it will chip and what not. however without clear coating, you get oxidation... So thats why I say always carry some mothers mag aluminum polish with you do the car wash and go over all your polished pieces after cleaning up.

Honestly man, you did one of the most awesome mods of all... you could easily pull this off. Its not hard, just time consuming. Do searches on google for Aluminum Polish Tips and Tricks and stuff like that... Also, use Aircraft paint stripper to get the paint off... Its already a soft surface so start sanding and sanding.

I'm still working on that 3" Intake Tube... cause it has alot of pits in it... and I dislike that, so I'm going to learn how to fill them with Aluminum Solder... and then Polish.

My camera sucked, but I'll take new photos soon...
1st thing I ever polished, my 2g TB Elbow... This one took some work to sand down all the ribbed areas and imperfections.

I think Imo just going to keep it black it seems like more maitnents then my girl friend, with polishing it all the time haha, But don't get me wrong it looks sweet that way wish it could stay that way with out polishing it all the time.

How the eff do you guys get it so smooth!??!

I say paint it black. Red doesn't go good with green. Take it from me dood.

Sanding? LOL Originally the valve cover is smooth... When you shave it it becomes very rough... So you have to start out with like a 120grit sand paper and an electric sander... do that till all the really rough stuff is gone, then jump to 350grit, then 400, then 600, then 800, then 1000, then 1500 wet, and finally 2000 wet... then the second you touch aluminum polish compound such as Mothers Mag Aluminum Polish to it, your mouth will drop. Mine did when I did the TB Elbow. My friend got me into it, told me the same thing I'll tell you. You'll be sanding and sanding and think that its not worth it... You'll go through cokes or cigs... Maybe even a few packages of hot pockets or something... And honestly think that the hard work isn't worth it, but the second that Aluminum Polish touches it and you start wiping it down, your mouth will drop and you'll get this huge smile.

And hey, its not too bad with maintence... My stuff has been polished for a few months now and I haven't touched up anything yet. I'm about to cause my TB Elbow is a little hazey... But I just go over it with a wax... and wipe it off and I'm done.

When I pop my hood, everyone sees the tubular header, Polished Parts and sharp turbine fins... people offer me lots of money to do stuff. The guy that got me into it, He just polished his stock GMC Syclone Wheels!!!!!

I think thats going overboard... but its actually very easy.

im not a fan of this, it looks naked to me but nice.
I just needed something different for my new build... Went a year with the red/flat black look... Got a built motor and wanted to change things up and put a little more detail in the motor.

^ dont hijack a thread to post a classified

... back on topic heres mine shaved. I voted to go with a machined look. Its smooth but It got a nice coating so its almost flat silver. Also for some reason this particular valve cover had a bad casting spot near the timing cover. I had to jb weld a pinhole. Weird because ive done one prior to this and was able to make it completely smooth like the above one w out problems.

Here it is its not 100% finished but it takes a good while to sand it :)
I invested $9.99 in a MOUSE by black & decker from ACE its a nice hand sander w polishing pads etc best $10 Ive invested on the dsm also works great on sanding the paintjob :thumb:

WARNING:: if your cover is the one from your profile pic it CANNOT be completely shave on the front top. You have to have to leave the areas alone where it steps up near the timing cover and the opposite ends. I had done the older style w no problems but the casting is too thin and I sanded through.

FYI it takes a good while too. All the write ups say hour to hour and a half but those covers dont have half the lettering or ridges that mine or yours had LOL

I spent the good part of 2 days doing it. This was with the cover on the car most of the time.

btw thanks for the props it was a pITA but made the bay look ALOT different
