neon lighting [Merged 5-7]

It's basically 2 wires, power and ground. Find a power source and then ground the other wire, it's not very difficult but it's tedious and annoying to do.

hook the power to the tail lights so it'll turn on when u turn the lights on.. the interpurt it with a switch to control it... but hookin it this way will ensure u don't leave those lights on to drain the battery

Nevermind all that complcated crap. This is how I did my cathode lights.

Go to Canadian tire..or whatever and get a ciggerette light splitter (gives you about 3 feet of wire with 3 lighter sockets on the end).
Grab some neons that plug into your lighter.

Plug in your splitter in, plug your lights into the spiltter, hide the wires and you're done.

OR you can cut the 12V and ground wire from your lighter, then hook up your splitter up to that. Wire in the switch... you lose the use of the actull lighter, but if you have any other accessories that used it, just plug them into the splitter aswell.

I tapped an accessory fuse at the fuse box for my neon power... think it was cigarette lighter...

run the wire from the wire you are tapping (you can even use scotchblock/wire taps) to the terminal on the switch. run another wire from the other switch terminal to under one of the seats and tap the red power wire for that neon. continue along to the other seat and terminate the wire with the red power from your other neon... now you only have to wire the two black wires to ground and you are set.

this way they can not come on unless the key is in ACC so they can't be left on, and you really only need the switch to turn them off if they are a distraction while driving because of reflections on the glass.

if you really want them to be able to turn on anytime just pick up the 12+ constant for the radio instead of the cigarrete lighter. Neons draw very little power.

run the positive from the neon to an inline fuse and then to a 12v source. run the ground from the neon to the switch and run the otherside of the switch to a ground on the car...safest way to do it and no electrical fires ;)

Have you guys seen these bad boys? They look so awesome!! They are pretty expensive though: $219 for a 2 stick set. Check em' out

the UFO kits makes that kit its little b1tch.
nothing special.
I had a plasmaglow 7 color but took it off,,it was cool being the first one when they first came out but now theres a million led changing color kits.

Heres a video of a real kit,,,, :p

starts off slow but at least watch some of the strobing effects you can do w/ the UFO kit,,actually pretty cool. just give it a chance even if you hate neon,I really dont care for it but this video gets pretty damn sweet.

video here

How do you control the effects? What does the interface look like? Is it totally random?

I know the UFo kit is totally user controlled,,
dunno about the morphics kit first posted

Read the specs on the web site. There's a cpu that controls the light. I think you can program it or have it sync with the music.

Sorry, I thought the vid was a different set of lights. The site in the first post has the detail on controller that I wanted to see, but is it the same for the Brittish vid?

I've got VARADs 1000 color kit it does alot too I like it. Everyone else around here has liteglows or optix 7 color kits. but theirs just goes from color to color where my fades from color to color. mine has a single button for all the functions. plus you cant tell each LED apart like you can on some other kits. I've got pics and a lil video of my car, hopefully get them on the comp tomorrow.varad

The video is a totally different set of light,,NOT the first link posted

The video is an iceled UFO kit

a guy i work has a set and im not impressed with his. his shines right on the ground when his is turned on and in one color its in square shape dont see it worth a damn

Tell you friend to install them right.

Being an led kit you have to point the tubes out from the car. Pointing them straight to the ground obviously results in nocoverage and looks crappy. All led tubes that I know of are able to turn the lexan part of the tube indepently from the base. There usually brighter then neon, they just dont underglow the area directly under the car as much but kick out an easy 3-5 feet from the sides.

I have a Streetglow gold series neon kit that was on my old car and i have 5 tubes for it. The kit looked awesome on my old car, you can't beat the light output on it. i'm actually selling my kit for $170 because i'm not putting it on my eclipse. The only thing i hate is that the neons can break easier then the leds.

im probably going for the colormorphics and am going to see about reselling them because they are an awesome concept with great capability to customize

they are exspensive compared to neon. they arent as exspensive as the UFO kit, But so worth it.

it was professionally installed

I'm tired of seeing people run blue and red. I've only seen a 300zx get pulled for red. I know if I ran my blue or had the colors cycling through, strobing, scanning, whatever... I'd get a ticket.

varads new LED kits like mine or the newer single color ones the LEDs are square instead of round they spread alot better and you can only mount them straight down cause the whole tube is square now.
