Is summer no good in Florida? That's what I'm waiting patiently for right now.

Last summer it was 106* plus 96% humidity.

But, to update the thread I have spectacular news. I started a new EMT job, and that’s not the spectacular part. The best part is it’s 8 minutes from THIS!!

Freakin yes. I’m switching to at minimum E50 for the Talon. Full E85 if it can handle it. I’m so stoked because it’s not even out of the way. It’s on the way home!

Just make the switch - and then re-learn how to tune without a knock sensor to tell you what is what.

That's the plan, but my fuel system will be the final decision maker. If I have to I guess I'll throw in a bigger pump or injectors, but really would like to not have to do that.

But, that's not the end of the good news. This is the "winter blend" and how it tested.

Stoked. E80-E83. Couldn't be happier, man.

What is the level of difficulty/is it time consuming to make the switch over to E85?
Here is my list of parts needed to support E85

1. 1000cc or larger injectors (RC)
2. Fuel pump that is E85 compatible (AEM340lph)
3. Fuel Pressure regulator (Radium DM)
4. Fuel safe hoses - (pump to hardline, filter to rail, regulator to return hardline, return hardline to tank) Optionally PTFE lined.
5. Fuel safe o-rings (fuel rail)
6. Tight gap your plugs to .020”

If you have been building a while, you probably have most of the supporting hardware in place including ECMLink and a Wideband. The things that melted on me were original o-rings in the OEM fuel rail ends, and original injector to manifold rubber on the injector tips.

As far as a process - it takes an afternoon of draining the tank, and filling up with fresh E85.

Check base fuel pressure

In ECM Link, you make one gross change to the global fuel to account for the stoic difference between gasoline and E85.

Finally, crank to fire over and adjust dead time for idle.

The rest is normal tuning - with the caveat that the knock sensor won’t be useful.

Direct access max oct targets on the wide-band are same for idle - 14.7 and WOT on boost is a leaner target - 12’s

I vastly underestimated just how much of a difference to this map that even E50 makes.

I had to take like 12% out of global, and remove like -260 deadtime to get it to be somewhat normal. Couple spots still need some adjustment.

What I'm gonna do is just restart from scratch on the entire map and go full E85. At mid 10's:1 AFR and 18-20lbs of boost, IDCs are 50%. So I've got plenty of headroom if I cut the AFRs to high 11's/very low 12's.

This is exciting, man. E85!!

22-24lbs was the limit for my UICP coupler. It didn’t fully blow off, but it has moved significantly. I was wondering why it wasn’t making over 18lbs. Lol.

Gonna fix that tomorrow and check all then other couplers too. Amazing how pressure isn’t just pressure with turbo setups. 30lb on a pump/compressor just ain’t the same as 20-24+ from a turbo.

But yeah. Thought that was amusing.

E85 does not like to burn in the 10's - You would do well to go right to 11. I was on E25, and targeting 11. 12 isn't much of a stretch.

In Michigan we are told E85 and that's it. The reality is every source of it is different, and it changes seasonally.

I could tell when the blend changed at the gas station because my afratioest to wb relationship would immediately go out of wack. I would have to change it a few %, but that was literally the only change. Nothing else at all would be different. Same power, clean pulls, off power personality, etc.

I will say this for anyone else following the thread, I was running an evo 3 16g, FIC 650’s with a rewired walbro 255, stock fuel lines, stock fuel filter/regulator when I switched to e85. On ecmtuning.com they have/HAD a page with a formula to calculate your global fuel adjustment based on your injector size/ethanol content. I originally shot for a 50/50 blended adjustment in my global due to my 650cc injectors. I’ll never forget reading the page at home on my laptop, coming up with my new “global setting” and driving to the race station to top off my tank LOL. I made the adjustments, topped her off and she fired right up! I slowly continued to tweak the global as the car basically ended up on full e85 before I later switched to FIC950’s, but my point is, I never had ANY issues running e85 on the stock fuel system, but again, that’s just me, take it with a grain of salt :)

Thanks for the advice and knowledge fellas. Keep it coming!!

Also: went to tighten the clamp on the UICP today and it disintegrated in my hand. The nut was crossthreaded somehow. It was "tight" but I'd bet it absolutely could've been tightened more but the cross threading wouldn't allow it. It's probably been leaking this entire time above 18lbs. The TB elbows bead isn't very pronounced either, so I may make a ghetto bead roller out of some crimpers/pliers and help it along a little more, but we'll see.

New red coupler and t-bolt clamps on the way as we speak. I think the UICP/TB elbow coupler could do with being lengthened from 3" long to 4" long, and I want a red one to match the VC because I'm a ricer :p. So hopefully that fixes it. I need to adjust the boost controller and back the duty cycle way down because it was just bleeding pressure off at anything above 18lbs.

I am hopeful/huffing copium that maybe I'll pop this new coupler and clamps on, and it'll just rip up top to an easy sub 9 sec 1/8th mile. We'll see though.

Yeah this thing has been slowly leaking for probably weeks now. Found a spare clamp and struggled the coupler back on and made sure it was over the bead and tightened the SHIT out of the clamp. When I drove it afterwords, I had to back to duty cycle down to 36-37 from 61. Lol. Now it’s right where I want it. Awesome. Fixed and fast AF. God 23lbs feels good.

When it’s not raining, probably in a couple days, I’ll make another 0-60 and 1/8th mile rip.

In my Tuners world, anything over E50 doesn't make it worse than E85. Tune the same (for E85) according to my reputable source. You make your own choices as to how critical you are with it. You will LOVE Ethanol.
Best of luck forward and smiles for miles!

Had a modern-ish Mustang blip/rev at me in traffic today. Sadly, once I caught up to him and the race track cleared he decided that he wasn't interested anymore and backed down. :( I didn't expect or hope to win, I just wanted to see where I was at. I guess the Talon is more intimidating than I thought? Either way, feels bad man. Why rev on someone if you're not wanting to play?

But, I washed the Talon today. Didn't make a whole huge difference, which is actually a good thing because now I can guilt free use a waterless wash and rags on it to clean it. Until I get it painted at least. :D

He saw the EMT sticker and got scared

Did a 3rd gear pull tonight, pleased with the results. Timing and AFRs both are extremely soft, but just wanna dial it in before I throw the beans at it. It tickled 26.1lbs according to the MAP sensor, which caused me to stop at 7100RPM instead of the 8K I was going for. Not ready for almost 30lbs yet. Lol.

But man, can't wait to switch to full E85. I'm gonna aim for 11.8/11.9:1 AFR, and see what timing it likes. More than the 11* it's running now though. Right now it's aiming for 11.0AFR and 11/12* timing up top. It's soft/conservative on purpose. Once I got full E85...then that'll change. :D IDCs are 70% at max load, which keep in mind that's 11.0 AFR and it's like E50ish blend. I'm happy with that!

Edit: Also, I'm tired of this dipstick popping out. The tube looks like someone clamped it with some pliers but did it wrong, so its open more on one side than the other. I ordered the STM dipstick with the spring mod done, and just gonna be done with it. Lol.

Yeah that dam dipstick will cause a fire and make you open the hood and pee on it if you don't have a fire extinguisher in the car. I was THIS CLOSE to doing that, then threw Snow on mine. You'll like the dipstick.
I now have fire extinguishers in all of my possible "fire hazards" .....

Broooooos.

In case you don’t see what happened, this thing RIPS!

I pulled through the ebrake because I slipped it a little more than intended, which started the test early. I backed out of it and then launched it. I got an amazing launch man. It felt really good. So take .4-.5 seconds off everything you see here. And I let off juuuust when I hit 80MPH so the 1/8th mile is actually not even a full pass. It coasted to a 14.2 @ 62MPH ROFL.

But cannot be more stoked. This thing RIPPED to 0-60 even with the .5 pause at the beginning. And I was only revving to 7k.

Man. This is awesome. Still launching with only a two step. No anti lag yet either.

I need to hit up a drag strip soon. I feel like I could lay down some respectable times on a legit prepped track without worry of uninvited “guests” ruining my run.

Not gonna lie though fellas, I don’t know if this green at max effort is going to be enough. I’m gonna push it and see but I really think I may end up going with a Red. I’m gonna try my best to run 11’s first and see if that’s satisfying but idk. We’ll see. I can already tell I want to chase more power.

Tried out the Anti-Lag today. Timing set at -5*, two step at 5700, ALS kicks in at 5200. Boy is it spicy. It builds damn near 15lbs. I'm gonna be 100% honest with you guys, I'm scared to use it honestly. I don't want to hurt the turbo or cause it to have a shorter life. I may try it once, but man I don't wanna break this 2 spider diff or 22 spline trans/tcase. I may do what Robert @ FP suggested and keep the launch soft, and just run more boost on the back end.

Might do a video of the ALS later just for giggles.

Screenshot 2025-02-26 11.01.30.png

Love that it's flowing 34lbs a min now, and boost is only at 24. I want to eventually turn it up to 30 or as close to 30 as my fuel system will allow. Super happy with this. Now I'll start leaning it out and giving it more E85. :D

Trying not to be a dick, but you have a cork in that thing somewhere. My all motor car on E85 runs 7.40's at 93mph, or 11.70's at 115. That's a worn the f*** out motor too with a stock port head. If it runs that with boost at 24psi, you ain't going 11's with a rocket strapped to it. You have a large large problem somewhere. My all motor car is dang near 30lbs/min. yeah yeah it's exciting it runs, but from the looks of it, it barely runs. Fix it before you f*** it up good. Guys ran 11's on greens 20 years ago in full street cars with pump gas and an SAFC.

Is this ALS in ECM Link? I've never seen this actually working - I don't understand how it is implemented. Can you elaborate on how it is working for you?

You set the ALS to kick in like 500-700RPM before whatever your two step/launch limiter is. I’ve been told that the more timing you retard, the more boost it’ll build and the more rowdy it’ll get. I’m only at 5* in the ALS “set timing” window, and it builds like 14-15lbs on my green.

Try my settings. Enable ALS to kick in 500RPM before your launch limiter and put 5* in the timing box. Go try it out. :D

Was cleaning my back porch when I found an OEM washer bottle. For giggles I tested it out and to my surprise, it worked great!

IMG_7388.jpeg
IMG_7387.jpeg

I know it’s stupid and small, but this car had nothing to make it a street car when I got it two years ago. Now with this, its got working windshield washers, full interior, leather seats, working sound system, OEM fans and can drive anywhere without overheating or being a nightmare. It also doesn’t leak in the interior like a sieve when it rains, and the seatbelts won’t kill you!

Next it’ll have A/C. Then it’ll truly be a 100% street car.

So no it’s not some amazing 1000awhp build that gaps bikes…but man. This means a lot to me. I feel like I saved this car.

Fast with class! I think I’ve got the class part down pretty good, now let’s work on fast. 😈
