Well, it's getting to be winter time so I'm now prepping the car for winter.

By doing absolutely nothing, because I live in Florida. Heat works, car starts in the cold(20* last week!) even on E85. So yeah.

Idle is being retarded now that it’s warm again.

Not sure why. I only edited the cold start enrichment on 0-50* range. Meh. I’ll log it and fix it later. It’s the weekend and I’m officially working day shift EMS so now I can use my edge to go to work on the weekends. Ease up on the talon a little.

So yeah.

Also: got my first ricer flyby in a very long time. VB Subaru bro decided to give a BOV salute and then run from me, weaving through traffic to get away from me.

Definitely just let him go. Not sure why he ran so hard away from me…it’s just an old 90’s crap box. ;)

Sigh. Installed my cruise control setup in the car, and it doesn't work.

I don't even feel like fighting with it to be honest. I'm gonna just rip it right the f**k back out and put the non-cruise cable back in it. I hate this car sometimes, Lol. It's either the stalk not working, the cruise ECU isn't there, or is broken, or isn't wired, or it's the whole cruise assembly itself, or its something else. I OHM'ed the plug on the cruise and it ohm'ed out fine. But when I apply power to 1 and 4, nothing happens. When I apply power to 1-2 or 1-3, again, nothing happens.

I give up. I'm not about to buy a whole assembly for the cruise/blinker stalks and it not work. And over my dead and decaying CORPSE will I pull the entire dash to replace the cruise ECU.

So yeah, screw it. Car isn't gonna have cruise control. Bummer, but it's not worth the fight. I'll just drive the car and use my right foot as the cruise control.

Once again I'd just like to say, f**k this car. F**k its whole existence. F**k it's dad, it's mom, and all of it's family. It's girlfriend is ugly, and no one likes it.

Alright I feel better.

Drive by wire and a standalone :) cruise would be easy! (Ironically I haven't set it up because it's just not a priority)

It would be nice. Idle control is amazing with a DBW TB too. But I can't justify such an expense for such a basic/low power car.

I mean if you're after driveability...it's expensive but it's also got so much more to offer too with safeties, better knock control. You can buy an Evo x throttle body and it's bolt on to the stock manifold, ditch the factory idle control stuff.

Which ecu are you thinking?

Swore up and down I'm done with the cruise control, and I still hate this thing...

With that said I've ordered a stalk. Meh. I swear this car is like an abusive girlfriend. :p

You need a stalk? I'm chiming late cause idk what that is. But I'm sure I have like 4 in the garage. If the new doesn't work, ill throw you these.

That would be awesome. Hopefully this one fixes it!

Well, John is on vacation. I didn't realize this until after I ordered the part. Alas. Lol.

Don't suppose anyone has a 1g gauge cluster that's "for parts" do you? I need a working oil pressure gauge assembly, the one in my cluster is bad/broken. Hopefully one of you have a cluster that you don't want anymore or is busted but the oil pressure assembly works!

I did a bunch of wiring today and fixed all the wiring to the OEM gauges, water temp works but oil temp gauge itself didn't, and the why is because it's broken inside. Oof.

If you ground the sensor wire, can you get it to react at all? The stock oil pressure gauges are not the best and react slow, in my experiences. This is just a sensor/wire test.

Nah it doesn't. I took the gauge apart, and it's really interesting how it works. Wire goes from one terminal, is wrapped around a metal tab that connects to the "needle" of the gauge, and finished by wrapping around another terminal. One terminal gets 12V, the other goes to the sensor which gradually grounds itself based on pressure. The result heats up the wire, which heats up/bends the metal tab which moves the needle.

The wire on mine was broken, so I pulled a single strand of wire out of a 20ga wire set I have and wrapped it around it. The resistance was way too low though, and when I hooked it up to the car it worked for about a second before it popped the wire. LOL.

I guess I could wrap it two to three times more so it gets the proper resistance(like 43ohms), but honestly..I'd rather just put a working one in and not mess with it. Wrapping the wire was so tedious.

It’s been a lovable enjoyable ride fellas. But today a big part of me died. I’m not ready to talk about it, but car is gone.

I’m gonna go dark for awhile. This is the end of this build and I cannot express how thankful I am to everyone’s advice and help. Thank you.

Prayers welcome.

Good grief, Cory! I'm glad that you're still well enough to type the message. I've been there man. My 2 favorite cars got totalled in different ways. It's more important that you're OK though. Let us know if you need a thing at all.

I'm of course curious how this unfolded but you're probably still trying to digest this yourself. And you're not obligated to share more than you're comfortable with. Take a rest for now. But we'll be ears wide open if you feel up to it.

And if you get your hands on another DSM in the future, you know what place to call home. I wish you the best blessings Cory. Just don't beat yourself up about it and stay strong.

Prayers and good vibes being sent!!! 🙏
