What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

Wow did they really cast the words turbocharger into the compressor housing, that is just crazy but a chinese knock off for sure, and the best way to learn is for sure doing it all yourself, and there are a few books out there on amazon that are really good reading about these cars also. I have a hard time taking most things said online with to much weight because of all the arm chair mechanics out there, but this site does have some people that know what they are talking about.

Yeah, I've learned to take all of what I hear, read, and see. Then sit down and figure out what of it is BS and what is worthwhile.
Between this site, and the place where I've been buying my parts I'm doing ok now. The whole thing is a learning experience.
I've been road racing for a while and have always wanted to do it with an AWD for fun and experience of driving it.
I probably could have used a different platform but I've always had an affection for the 1g's so I figured why not. Every time its been almost but not quite ready for the track i've just used my original car and thus far haven't felt like i've missed too much.
It will be dyno'd and tuned next week hopefully and I'll see what the results are.
Last time it did 325 awhp at the shop I used we'll see what the improvement or lack thereof are.

Haha yeah if it needs to say that its a turbocharger on the cover then its probably fake, do they sell intercoolers with intercooler on them?

I recently got my hands on a turbo and the guy says it is a 50 trim but I see no name or markings that pull up any info . I searched the forums and found this post with the same markings on the comp housing says .50a/r nb045 here is the link to the post the turbo I have still has the internal wastegate attached but this turbo in the post is in fact the same one with the same exhaust side . please let me know what you guys think ...

Well if it has an SS exhaust housing like that link then you should be fine(no ebay trash here).
Does that comp housing look as big as that one? A/R is just a refrence, it can't tell you how big that wheel is inside.

yeah the exhaust housing is the exact same . squared looking and that big its huge . on that thread he was saying bullseye housing . so you think it is a ss housing so what turbo do you think it could be ? they guy i got it off of said he didnt know what it was . it has minimal shaft play too! it bolts right up to my stock 02 housing and is dsm flanged . also the guy said I could use my 16g oil feed & return it has a fitting on the feed side .

This thread is completely wrong in this forum.

There's nothing that seperates a Bullseye 50-trim from any other to my knowledge aside from the turbine housing. They should all use a 50-trim compressor / T31 turbine combo. Basically if you bolt a BEP DSM T31 housing on a PTE 5031E, you'll have a Bullseye 50-trim.

Garrett turbos can only be identified by measuring the wheels; and to my knowledge none of the BEP Old School Garrretts had "Bullseye Power" on the compressor cover. They must've hired that girl yesterday.

Yes, that is an Ebay (china) 16g knock off turbo. That is not a Mitsubishi (MHI) 16g turbo.

I see a RRE j-pipe and what appears to be a Dejon lower intercooler pipe in the photo. It's sad to see that the previous owner spent more on their intercooler piping than their turbocharger.

You may want to do that. The same turbo can be had brand new for $220 on eBay right now. The new turbo most likely has even less shaft play and "spins" even better....even though how freely a turbo spins is no way to gauge it's performance.

He bent you over and ran all the way to the bank. You can get a replica M.H.I big 16g on e bay for 220 shipped with everything needed to install. Its still crap either way there have been a few of them last a year or two when babied all the time. But in general the tolerances they hold those turbo's to would make the engineers of the MHI piece cry. Its sad they are pretty crap out of the box. The injectors he will send you are probably black top 2g with fic stickers on them. I would throw whole package deal through his window and get your money back. Thats thing isn't worth the aluminum they used to cast it. Some friend that guy is. FAIL for both of you. Him for selling a cheap pos and you for paying 300 for a pos. Read up before committing to purchase a giant paper weight.
