Received my new front driveshaft section so I was able to complete the viscous install, including some spacers I turned on my lathe to get the correct height.

I pulled the alternator out of my Laser this morning and brought it to a local generator shop. Small local place, super old school. I talked with the guy there for an hour, he's been at it for 40 years. My intention was to convert it to 16v, but he was more curious as to why my car keeps killing alternators after a few miles driving. The testing machine showed the alternator was kicking out 14.x volts no problem... until it went past 90amps. Dial it back down to under 90amps and the voltage comes right back. The mystery is, how the heck is my car using 90amps? Slim fans, stock ignition, 2x 450 pumps *Im pretty conviced one of those pumps was dead*, aftermarket headunit but probably stock speakers. It's a simple car when it comes to electronics.

He's going to convert it to 160amp and wanted to do some other testing on it. I think he's half retired and only works a couple days a week so I won't have the unit back until mid next week.

If I can make a suggestion. I would make a solid spacer from one bolt to the other. The spinning mass is forced against the thinnest part of the bearing, or just slip a plate in there

Anyone else just been enjoying the crap out of their cars recently?

Went WOT in 4th for the first time and hit 40psi and a lean spot. Decided to finally do the pump rewire

Working on brake lines put timing cover on and mrc altenator and belt. Working on torque solution mounts, should be back to haltech work next week and button up the dash. Still getting it together so i can drive it , get dynoned. After that drive it a lot, then appearacne and shootout in august.

Finally got the center console trimmed. I need to order a new boot since it's too short and i will be 3d printing a plug for the tray since i had to trim a good amount of it to make the console drop down to the correct height.

Please make sure you use a lot of loctite on your timing components. I just found out that my vibrations backed out my timing pulley... waiting to find outnif I got blessed or if my valves bent

That's odd i've never had issues with my bolts coming loose. Only time i had an issue was when i didn't torque one to the correct #

Another reason I’ll never run solid motor mounts on my car. I don’t understand why they’re as common as they are on street driven cars. With a Fluidamper/stock engine mounts, sitting in the car you’d never guess the balance shafts were deleted.

But just to add, it is wise to add red loctite to timing components. :thumb:

Ive never had a problem other than vibration......until I did... i bolt check the usual suspects in the bay like alternator bolts and what not but now I will warn everyone to loctite their timing side heavily!

Agreed.
I have had metal solid mounts on my 1g for many years, I like the shift feeling but I won't do this on a street car. Yes, it requires to check for loosen bolts and nuts often. I have experience that all the lock bolts on adjustable cam gear got loose.

Mine is a racecar, everything rattles, so everything gets loctite LOL. Two of my friends had their crank bolts come loose within the last 3 weeks.

I've been tidying up the last little things before first startup, for my oil feed line I decided to o-ring it to match the drain tube that came with it.

Twinsies on placement 😂. I think I’m going to make that open dimple wider and run the hose through that to make it short and run the return where core support angles up back to the filter. I’m just going to eliminate the cooler on the stock ofh and run it like that. The space is tight.

I thought about running my hose through as well. but after testing the bumper I had enough room to just wrap comfortably so I just left it. I cut the top left tab off my cooler haha

Started the 1990 and let it warm up and saw some steam ...36yr old rad was done ...also my power steering pump was starting to drip ...rock auto aluminium rad and rebuild kit for the pump ...next to replace front struts and swap out the front CV axles i rebuilt over the winter

I dug out 3 old 1g heads that came from various partouts I bought, trying to find a good one to build. I took my power washer to all 3, now to check everything. I am sure 2 have bent valves, but IDC, I am going to replace everything anyway.

Ok, thanks to all of you that looked at those pictures. I grabbed the one without cams but haven't done anything more than bring it inside and hose it with WD40.
Here is a question to anyone that wants to reply, what is the difference in the following 2 heads? One has varnish and the rockers are laying around in it but the other (the "2.0L" head) is complete, with no tossed rockers, so does anyone know the difference in these 2? The varnished one is a G6 the other, complete one says "2.0L".
Thanks in advance.
Marty ✌️
