Do yourself a favor an replace the old metal ISC before a coil shorts and damaged the driver. It's cheap insurance.

Which switch Steve? I'm still learning the DSM acronyms... Is it Idle Speed Control or Idle Stop Control?

Steve, what is different in the newer version that prevents them from shorting out?
I don't know for sure other than they are quite different and the newer black plastic ones don't seem to suffer for the same problems. I've taken several of the metal ones apart and found some with water inside so the seals seem to fail and the internal coils short so there is a defect with them.

I've not taken a plastic one apart to compare.

I noticed the other day when i put the A/C on that the idle was all over the place, form a steady 750. other than another broken wire, this was my first thought.

As much as I know, one of big differences is, the new black plastic ISC has higher resistance. The old tan ISC has approxi 30 ohms as we know according to the FSM, but the new black ISC has actually approxi 40 ohms. I think that is an intension of preventing a heat damage or some issue that is related to that.

Test fit some new to me side skirts. Old school Extreme Dimensions they’re super straight and sturdy. I feel like the twisties are lacking now that I have the 2gb front on. They just need a little love and paint

Helped my buddy get the trans in his 1ga Talon. We got the motor in two weeks ago but this New York weather has been all over the place

And threw a fluidampr on mine. Highly recommend it to anyone it made a night and day difference on my car. Engine used to lug a bit from 2-4k and on/off throttle. Both are pretty much gone and I don’t feel the motor chop as much from the interior even tho I can still hear it chopping from the exhaust. Shouldn’t have waited so long to get one

Measure the thickness of your hub. If it’s about 10mm you don’t need the longer bolts and if it’s around 17mm then you do.

I didn’t need the longer bolts. Just threw some blue loctite on and torqued to spec. Had plenty of thread engagement.

Needed a grounding block for my new 16v battery, was going to order one on Amazon to get it by Friday but ended up just making my own.

Sorry to double reply on ya, I am working my way up on the thread. Why not go 16v alternator and 14v battery?

More maintenance ..swapping out more 36 yr old parts ...struts and rebuilt front cv axles...then take the old girl out for some fresh gas and first cruise of 2026 !!

Dawn, Easy Off Oven Cleaner, a set of Harbor Freight brushes and my Power Washer did an amazing job. The only thing I can't do is surface it so I need to get the valves back out (found these swirl polished SS valves in a big Zip Lock) and get it to the machine shop for the surface and replace ONE valve guide that is cracked.

They were kinda crusty but cleaned up like in the picture. I "think" they are Ferrea, but can't tell. All are necked down, swirl polished. They all seal pretty good right now, I haven't lapped them yet but will before it goes to the machinist. 👍 If you look close, you can see what my vacuum pump was able to pull with no seals and no springs on them. I wrote it on each cylinder with a marker, for reference, to see what kind of seal I can get them to hold after lapping.

I'll put Kiggly Springs and Kelford cams in it when it gets back. Now to decide what cams.

Fabrication is always way cooler than Amazon.
What's involved in your DIY scales? Plan to do a write up on them?
I'm not going to do a write up as it wasn't my idea, I took an existing project and added my own flare to it.

Here's a link to the creator who designed it:

Im very disappointed with the OHM Racing harness. They were expensive and took months of waiting and im still having to troubleshoot and fix stuff. Tried to get my A/C finally charged because I got stationed in the desert and there is no signal from the A/C compressor connector or A/C dryer connector.

Also my throw out bearing it making a chattering sound on start up that goes away once I push the clutch in but after driving yesterday, I can hear the races of the bearing making that rubbing sound that bearings make when they are worn so there's that too. This car will be the death of me but I still love it

Well I got the head nice and clean and was doing a vacuum test when I found both of the front cam caps are mismatched. I swapped them, no beno so off to another head (and a lot of wasted time). :banghead:
Here is the 2nd head, before and after. Yes, I checked the cam caps on this one. It had a set of Cams in it. These caps all mate. Still alot of cleanup and touchup stuff to do before having it surfaced.
