Street Build Resurrection of the Red 90 Talon

1990 Eagle Talon TSI trying to save her life from the previous owner and its alot of work but a nice base car. My youngest son, who also races this car has nicknamed her "The Red Baron".

I port and polish all of my block oil galleys but have not ported the OFH, and never have had too, but this may be one that I do. When the motor seems broken in (give it another couple hundred miles), I will worry about it. Simple driving now is what the engine is needing for bearing breakin. OFH porting would have to be my next thing or change springs. :thumb:

As I "remember" (haha) you are still using the oil squirters right?

I changed springs on mine but only seen about a 5psi difference between them. I ended up going with the factory one as it was the higher one, but not too high IMO.

I use a ported 6 bolt forward facing. I currently run the factory DSM spring. I tried the low pressure one, and it did lower pressure by about 5 psi, but I'm happier with the factory one.
I mean just for reference, it would be interesting to know which "low pressure" one you are talking about.
If you know the Mitsu part number for the spring, or even if you know what the free length of it is.
No big deal, it's just an interesting subject.

I believe it's the 1.8 mitsu spring. That's the one I've got installed. It works great with 10-30-10-40 weight but this 20-50 weight is too thick and oil pressure is too high.

I actually don't have a number. I believe Rob is right though in that it's for a the 1.8L cars - maybe even the 1.6L? I can't confirm that myself though.

Ok. The lower pressure spring I know about is the MD015988 which people have been calling the "Mirage" spring. You can buy those straight from Mitsubishi for $5 plus shipping.
I'm not using one but I have one here, so I could measure the free length if anyone wants to know that.
It is quite a bit shorter than any of the springs that Jafro measured in his oil filter housings video of about 12 years ago, as I remember.
He was showing as I remember only DSM and early Evo housings, and did a lot of measurements, didn't show that Mirage spring.
For that matter, did he show the forward facing 6-bolt housing that you are talking about? I don't remember, think I'll go look.

I just ordered one today from ExtremePSI but there is not Mitsubishi part number.

I see. Oh there is the Mitsu part number there though. The MD015988 is it, in their SKU number. That's the one I ordered from a Mitsu dealer for $5. The "Mirage" spring.

Below that they show the "OEM Oil Filter Bracket Housing Assembly (Mighty Max) Forward Facing Front Location: Mitsubishi Eclipse 6 Bolt (DISCONTINUED)" which I suppose is the housing MindBlowin03 is talking about.

Yeah I just checked. He didn't show either of the Mighty Max (forward facing) housings. And didn't show the Mirage spring.
He just showed DSM housings and an Evo3 housing.
Here's where he shows the housings he's going to measure:

I made up an Informational paper so anyone looking at the car tomorrow will know WTF they are looking at. I will be the ONLY DSM there so I decided to say a little about the platform before the cars description :)
It could have been better but it'll work!

Cleaning up for tomorrow's car show. I am sure I will probably be the only "Import" style car, as it is dominated by American Muscle. They have seen my old 1967 RS Camaro, so tomorrow, they get to enjoy a "different" Domestic, the 1990 Talon TSI.
A few pics. She is not spotless but she is pretty clean!
I wanted to put her 2g Black Rim Slicks on, but she looks fine as is. If you see me "Blacked Out", I'm running on the Ventus Street Slicks
Enjoy!
Marty

So fresh and so clean, clean!

I need to remember fire extinguishers... just in case

Same. My Talon almost burned down the other day. Thankfully it was in my driveway, but somehow the alternator power wire got caught in between the LICP and the metal fan shroud, and everything down there was(at the time) covered in oil.

Had I not been showing off to my wife and testing the car in my driveway(as in if I'd have been driving or cruising) the car would've had a completely burning engine before I even caught it, but without an extinguisher the whole car would've gone too.

Since then I've ordered like two Element extinguishers.

One more document to put in the car.....then pack the canopy and a chair and a hat for my bald head! We have already seen over a dozen cars headed that way....starting at 730. That's too early for me but I am getting around. Let's go show a DSM!!!:thumb::talon:

I was with a Nissan 300Z and a Honda Accord along with the 67 Camaro that got a Trophy and DESERVED it!
I will see if I can post a VIDEO of that little man in his Lambo  :thumb:
I held up a sign that said DSMTUNERS for my picture! :D:pROFL (because I couldn't find my stickers for the car Chris :( ). I did the next best for the forum!
No honorable mention, top 3...nodded.
I really had fun just showing the car and that's what it's about, the fun of the fruits of labor.

Here was the cutest thing at the car show. His dad and mom just drove him all around to see the cars. Mom said "Oh, he's used to it and just enjoys the rides!"

Boy, I didn't realize I had had my first DSM this long. Time sure flys by 😕
