Street Build Resurrection of the Red 90 Talon

1990 Eagle Talon TSI trying to save her life from the previous owner and its alot of work but a nice base car. My youngest son, who also races this car has nicknamed her "The Red Baron".

Idk, I wasn't there ROFL
My doctor has had me off of work to the last 2 weeks because of my arthritis in my back. I had been working 6 days a week for 4 months and it was killing my spine.
I had a GREAT DAY FRIDAY. No work, drove the Red Talon for some breakin miles and forgot about it. I did go down and turn in my keys/badge and get my refrigerator and personal items from the wall like my 30 year service award plaque. View attachment 741884
The weekend was tied up with picking up around the house for a family cookout yesterday with my son's and grandkids, my mom, my ex and her mom and a few other relatives and close friends so I was wore out from that. I have to limit my car time, when the back starts aching, I just quit and let the old back try to relax. It IS a weird feeling since I have worked for 44 years total, even when in college.
I recommend it for EVERYONE!!! 👍 😍
Thanks for REMEMBERING ME, that was really nice!!! No going away party, no "Thanks for all of your years of dedication", I'm just glad to call it quits.
Now, the scary part is, how much will Uncle Sam and Insurance have their hands in my pension? Will I have ANY extra $ to play "cars' with you guys??? I hope so, but my $ won't start coming in for 60 days so that is concerning. I have tried to save $ for bills for that period and my house and cars are all paid for, so I am crossing my fingers! 🤞
Congrats on the retirement !!...I hear you about government sticking there hands in the retirement pot ...just started my pension and wasn't as much there as i hoped ...but still ok ...plus i am still ok physically and can still work a refinery shut in the spring or fall for extra "project cash " ...keep the updates coming !

Well I'm glad to hear that it went as planned and you didn't have to work the last 2 weeks.
My last year of work was really hard. I ended with 6 weeks (as I remember) of partial disability where I worked half time (4 hours per day) and the disability coverage kicked in the other half-day. When they told me they didn't want to do that anymore, I quit. In the written exit interview they asked if I quit due to medical reasons. I said no. What an idiot! Of course it was for medical reasons! I don't know why I said no. But the stupidity of it, or whatever it was, it helps me be a little more tolerant of other seemingly stupid things people sometimes do. 🙂

Besides the pension, you'll get Social Security too won't you?
Social Security has been awesome. It goes up, with cost of living. Mine has gone up 39% since 2014. When you have owned your house for a while (not renting) and you are "done" with supporting your kids (haha) your actual cost of living probably won't go up that fast. So that's a plus. Pension on the other hand - I don't know if that will ever go up. Mine doesn't.
So your 30 years of service was as of 2020. 34 years now. Wow. Good to be done right?

It's a good time guys. I need set reminders to do things now,.....like my hair appt. Missed it. Called and told her I was sorry, we'll reschedule. Where was I? Messing around with the car in the shop. Just little things so far that didn't fit into my day, LOL. ROFL
@We're on Boost , I'm not old enough for SS yet, but the company will pay me a supplement until I am, on top of my pension. :thumb:

Good!

Congrats for sure on the retirement! Could always do some small stuff like go part time at a grocery store or something minimal effort. Work like one or two days a week. Just enough for some extra spending money.

Hope I can actually reach retirement age AND have a good retirement fund built up. Lol.

Oh I have NO PLANS on working ever again. I am working for myself and my needs and wants now, not my employer.
Funny, my son asked me where I was going to work and I told him the same thing. I didn't work since I was 16 to work MORE ROFL I'm done and pretty sure I am going to be just fine. The only thing I don't know is what amount will be taken out of my monthly income :thumb:

And just as I said all that.......I have an air conditioning job on a Jeep tomorrow. I'll see what side jobs are all about. New parts but compressor isn't coming on. Customer assumes it is IS charged. I am already thinking low pressure. Well I guess I'll see, ROFL

It came in with NEW components installed but pressures were WHACK. Low was 90, High was 150. Idt the prior mechanic evacuated the system before adding freon PLUS the compressor was not seeing a signal from the HVAC controls (and the vehicle had been in a wreck so it could be a broke wire). I probed the power wire as far back as I could follow and no 12v signal. I had to run a separate switch to send 12v to the compressor and it worked so I pulled 30hg on the system and put 24oz of 134a in and it was nice and frosty. The control inside had one block of wires going to it's plug of 20 or so wires. I didn't bother trying to probe them. It is either a bad dash unit or a cut/broken power wire from the accident it was in (unknown how bad). I sent her home with good ac and I also rotated her tires as the back 2 were in a lot better shape. :thumb:

There is a car show next weekend so I am taking the Talon (the only car like it) to the show and put her in the "Special Interest" class since that is about all she fits into. The Mopar class would just laugh, but if they'd like to put their money where their mouth is, I'm game! She is running pretty dam good and flowing almost (55.9) 60 lbs/min. It is an outrageous car to try and drive and keep straight, I can certainly testify to that! It felt over 500hp and wheel spin was a bummer.
Thanks for following along, for this LONG!!!
Marty

Congratulations on retirement marty!!!! 🥳. Also. 760 HP 🤯😎 Wow. that thing runs like a damn rocket I know.
Yes, when it lights, it's a HANDFULL.
I never really believe that number but as far as air flow, it is doing 500+ at only 29lbs of boost. :thumb:

So I’m assuming you’re still liking the quartermaster 8 leg? Might be my next clutch LOL
Love it. I am still getting used to it and have killed the car numerous times but she grabs and she holds! The more I drive it, the "easier" it gets to drive Jeremy. 👍

Well I went on a 50 mile drive yesterday following my son in his 1987 Honda Accord Hatchback for breakin miles. No issues to report and the car drove nice. It is running on my tune so it surely isn't great but it's not bad either. It wants to die when I roll up to a stop sign, and that is super annoying but about the only complaint. Oil pressure is still pretty high and more breakin miles may bring it down a little more, I hope. I think I am over feeding the turbo with too much oil pressure so maybe something needs to be done but I hate running a restrictor.
It was a nice drive to 2 other local towns and I was able to fill up on E at the last town. Mileage......about 11mpg on E :ohdamn: :idontknow::thumb:

That's pretty good airflow Marty. When I had my car on the dyno(2019), I made 572 awhp with 57 lbs/min airflow. This was at 34psi but with a Cyclone intake mani. For reference and possible future goal for yourself, I made 608 awhp with 62 lbs/min. Took me 38psi with that setup.

And I will push this compressor to 40lbs as I get the motor broken in and line out the tune more. It really is quite a monster to drive at WOT at just 30.
Thank you for the encouragement and for following along!
Boy, your and I's builds are very similar. That made me smile....and gives me hopes and dreams! 😍

I've been as high as 40/41 on the street and it gets the job done for sure LOL. The last two years I had the factory wheels on my car and with the 215 wide tire it was a handful even at 100+ mph. It was actually a bit scary to be honest. This year I switched to a 245 tire on an 18" wheel and I'm really liking it so far.

Yeah guys, I have to do something in BOTH AREAS! Thank you both :thumb:

Still 90+ so I am putting miles on her
