New Shootout 2026 scramble!

COMPLETED a tear down and complete restoration of my dream GSX. Always wanted the A87 paint code and I finally have the perfect "rust free" base to start with.

I am trying REALLY hard to make it with the GSX but I am sure you can probably tell I am not one to cut corners. So it its ready then hell yeah.. but if it means just slapping everything together and risk doing double work or risking something safely on the car then I just can't do that. Biggest hurdles right now are things out of my control like machine shop time for the block and custom stuff like intercooler piping. I could throw money at stuff all day long but wait times are what they are LOL. But I am also not just throwing money at things either haha. So we will see!

Brought a project to work with me today for rebuild. It’s going to end up taking two decent ones to make one good one but that’s how it is with old and discontinued parts. I know everyone is feeling the Mitsu parts ban hammer right now as well. But here is everything apart and ready to be powder coated/painted and also re-upholstered.

Have to clean up the corrosion on the lip of the glass to for a new seal install.

Soooooooo, not gonna lie… I have been avoiding doing the heat barrier on the interior firewall for a while now. I knew it was going to be a huge pain in the ass, and turns out.. I was 10291% correct. BUT, it’s done and over and now I can start putting the entire interior back in and run my custom wire harness. Btw, if doing this yourself, it sucks. My ribs and butt are sore from crawling around on the floor of the car and twisting around to get it all stuck up and put in correct. Took about 2.5hrs from start to finish. Enjoy!

Yah I’m not looking forward to that part either! Going to find plenty of big rubber kneeling pads or something to lay and contort on! Lol
Looks great bro keep at it!

Dude trust me, pads won’t matter. You cant really ever get to your knees to do it. It’s all upside down and sideways. And I even have the entire interior out. One little thing in the way and it would be even harder! I will say… watch out for the studs on the floors and firewall LOL.

Yah they’re a bi*** for sure. Pads won’t be for knees more like ribs! Lol

Wait is that one of them trim to fit ones? That gap along the outside is all over the place! You sealing that with a strip or anything

I am not really sure how FAL makes them but it was cut or trimmed by them to be a very good fit. I don’t see any issues with fitment and they do not go in with trims or anything. Only issue was that the formed aspect of it was not perfect so I used the suction cups on to suck it down. Turned out really well.

I only mention the trim as the gap between the poly and trunk is wavey and gappy. Would of though FAL being as big as they could get that spot on. I could not remember if it was a FAL from another post or if it was trimmed to suit or not

Very nice build ! Is this going to make it to the shootout?

Thank you so much dude. It’s been tough and a LOT of work to get it to this point but will be worth it. I am trying really hard to get it ready by then but as of writing this it does not look good. Just so many pieces to come together in a short time but still possible.

Well, officially passed a huge step in the rebuild. Things are going back ON the car, no more removal LOL. Brake lines got tacked up for length and then got exact lengths done yesterday. Also finally got the tank mounted and the shield on. I freaking LOVE the splatter wrinkle black. It looks soooo good.

Final on brake lines and also put new ebrake cables in since it’s tucked up in there once the tank is on.

Where did you order all your stainless lines at for the brakes?

Also, got Bobby’s front uppers on and kinda had an oopsies while installing them. Because I welded my upper tubes they were a little snug for the upper bushings to go into. So while “persuading” them in I lost track of there my steel bar was and made a nice gouge in my freshly painted strut tower. No biggie though, will touch it up when I spray more of the interior.
